I am a professional cellist with years of experience playing and teaching the cello. It is one of my main instrument specialties, and I have had many students over the past 5+ who have shown improvement.

About Tristan
I am a professional orchestra conductor, cellist, guitarist, and educator. I conduct student orchestras in New York City, and throughout Fairfield County, CT.

I have taught many students over the past 5+ years, all of whom have improved, have developed confidence on their instrument, and improved immensely in every possible way.

I am highly organized and attentive, and strive to create a personalized curriculum for each one of my students. I am entirely student focused and do not teach from a template. Every single person requires a slightly different approach.

My main goal as a private teacher is to inspire. My job is not simply to make my students improve. It is to get them to develop the interest and the desire to practice and explore on their own motivation. That is my greatest focus as a teacher.

Have you always loved the sound of the cello, and are ready to learn how to make beautiful music? With a little practice, determination, and weekly lessons from me, you will quickly advance through all of your favorite Classical pieces or even Popular tunes! Lessons will focus on note-reading, intonation, rhythm, tone quality, and all other important aspects to improve your cello playing!

About Yamilet
Yamilet realized her love for music at the early age of 7, after singing along with children's television shows and joining her elementary school chorus. She was also a member of the Orff ensemble and in the 4th grade began learning to play the violin. Using that background knowledge, she began to teach herself piano. In the 5th grade, she switched to cello. Although she has always had an insatiable curiosity with musical instruments (playing as many notes as she can figure out on harmonica, guitar, recorder, clarinet, double bass, viola and even water-filled glasses) she has stuck with the cello for almost 15 years.

Yamilet is a Dr. Phillips High School alum, where she was accepted into their Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors in Music Performance in 2010, s
tudying with Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra members Barbara George and Laurel Stanton. She recently completed her Master of Arts degree in Music Performance. In that time, she performed with the UCF Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Laszlo Marosi, and was the principal cellist for over 5 years. She also played with the UCF Chamber Ensemble, String Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and sang in the Women'€™s Chorus and Opera Workshop.

Locally, Yamilet has performed with the Space Coast Pops Orchestra under the direction of Richard Hayman, alongside guest artists including Carol Stein, Copeland Davis, and Valerie Pernice. She has also played alongside well-known artists/bands such as Jodi Benson, Mana', Kansas, and Classic Albums Live. Yamilet also enjoys performing and recording for local bands and artists such as Urbe Prima, The Drive to Uqbar, Ratham Stone, Stockholm, Hoyle, James Roquemore, and Edgar Junior.

*** Lesson Details ***
My job as a teacher is to help you learn everything you need to know about playing your instrument, and really perfecting your technique. I like to use the Essential Elements for Strings book because it is straight-forward and lets you move at your own pace. Once you are proficient enough with the basics, we may move on to the Suzuki Solo books and take time to be able to get each piece to a performance-ready level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I provide music stands, appropriate seating, and supplemental music. I expect the students to have their own instrument and necessary accessories (rock stop, rosin, shoulder rest).

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Folk, Classic Rock, and Pop

Students can look forward to getting acquainted with the cello- from posture and properly handling the instrument, note-reading, and playing their first songs with the bow.

About Lisa C.
After playing the violin for over 20 years, Lisa was inspired to share the gift of music with others by her teacher, Susanna Sonnenberg. Lisa is a member of the American String Teacher’s Association, and has attended the 2017 ASTA National Conference. She currently performs with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has played in recitals, the Chartiers Valley High School Orchestra, and was accepted to the 2006 PMEA District Orchestra. She has studied with Larry Weiss, Linda Andersen, and others. Lisa can’t remember a time before she learned how to play the violin; it has brought her great joy. Her favorite piece to play is the Bach Double Concerto in D Minor.

At 8 years old, Lisa fell in love with the violin. Throughout school, she studied with private teachers and played with the school orchestra. At home, her dogs were a great audie
nce.

Lisa went on to study history at the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned her law degree from Duquesne. She never forgot her violin, though, and continued to play in her spare time.

Music adds beauty to the world, and finally, after years of keeping the violin to herself, Lisa decided to share her playing with others. Lisa teaches traditional, classical method. The method books she uses include: Essential Elements for Strings, Samuel Applebaum, and All for Strings, among others. She supplements the technical exercises with repertoire from the Suzuki series. Lisa enjoys playing all types of music, in addition to classical, and teaches these songs, as well. Additional music includes pop artists like Taylor Swift, classic rock, electronic music like Lindsey Stirling, celtic, folk, and just about any other type of music you can think of. As a teacher, Lisa strives to be positive and encouraging. She believes that music should be fun, so her main goal is to make sure her students are having a good time!

As a cellist with 16 years of playing experience and 4+ years of teaching I have learned that music can change your life at any age and even can help you heal from whatever struggles life throws at you. Music and learning an instrument can improve your brain functions in a way that no other activity can accomplish. I am so passionate about teaching and customize my teaching style to each student individually because the same approach does not work for everyone. I strongly believe in that and try to get to know my students, who they are, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help to overcome those. I get very involved with my students and build a personal relationship with each one of them to further help them with cello. I've had some wonderful instructors myself including Amir Eldan and Hans Jensen who taught me not only how to play the instrument itself but also how to use those skills that come with being a musician in life.

Jessica gives really good lessons! Over the past year, I've improved a LOT with intonation, shifting, and posture, which I most certainly wouldn't have done without her help. She's really patient and makes lessons enjoyable with her chill, fun personality, yet makes sure you don't slack off. Although I haven't had any other cello teachers to compare her to, she definitely has raised my standards for any I might have in the future.

My goal is to inspire my students to perform at their best by learning to problem solve. I have extensive performing experience with musicians ranging from the Juilliard Quartet to Jon Batiste and am happy to coach my students on any style of music. One of my specialties is audition preparation; you can trust me to get you ready for your next NYSSMA or school audition.

About Timothy
I am an experienced cellist across many genres: you might have heard my playing on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, at venues like Barclays Center and BAM, or in more intimate settings like Bargemusic. I have performed across the globe, in tours through China, Australia, Italy, and Mexico. Here are some musicians I have collaborated with

I received my bachelor's degree in cello performance and music education as a scholarship student at Rutgers University, where I studied with Jonathan Spitz. I recently completed my master's degree in cello performance as a scholarship student at Aaron Copland School of Music, where I won the concerto competition, performed solo with the orchestra, and played in the school's scholarship chamber group. I went to Eastern Music Festival, Brevard Music Center, and Round Top Festival Institute, where I was pr
incipal cellist. Additionally, I was a teaching fellow at the Maine Chamber Music Seminar in Sidney, ME.

I have extensive teaching experience. I was the director of elementary strings in Warren, NJ and I taught in El Sistema-inspired programs throughout NJ. I maintained a private studio at Rutgers Prep in Somerset, NJ and am now teaching privately in Brooklyn and throughout NYC.

My teaching philosophy is not to teach a student how to play, but how to practice. Most of the work comes from a diligent practice at home. My job as a teacher is to promote effective practicing habits and to guide the student to be able to shape themselves musically.

About Sarah
I'm currently studying Music Education at the University of Akron, and I absolutely love teaching! It fills me with so much joy to help other cellists learn to have fun and express themselves through what I think is the coolest instrument out there.

My philosophy on teaching is not necessarily to teach the student how to play, but how to practice. My job as a teacher is to help the student develop effective practicing habits and to create a solid technical foundation for the students to expand on. It is not a teacher’s job to tell the student exactly how or what to express, as music is just as much of an expressive form as any other art, but to sculpt and refine what the student brings to the table on their own.
