I use many methods including Suzuki, Kodaly and traditional teachings that include catered practice plans in order to accommodate each student's learning needs. I am very flexible and more than happy to discuss teaching methods and/or special needs with parents and students.

I love teaching violin and have been doing it for over 10 years. I believe private lessons are an essential component to successful musical development and growth. It is my hope that my students develop the tools they need to become independent musicians. I strive to create an atmosphere that fosters not only growth in technique, but in character, personal discipline, and a long-term appreciation for music. Every lesson is tailored to fit my student's needs and interests.

I have been teaching violin for over fifty years. I teach using a progressive Suzuki method. I have a unique method of teaching scales using a pattern system which makes scale studies quick and easy to learn in all positions on the violin. I have tutorial videos to go along with your lessons for both Suzuki pieces and scale studies. I teach fiddle and Jazz violin for those who are interested. I also teach on line lessons
I have experience playing in theater, Orchestras, and small ensembles. I am currently playing in the Timpanogos Symphony in Highland Utah. I am also playing in a string quartet.
My students sit in the first chairs in their School Orchestras. I have a good relationship with the School Music Teachers. I always put the school music first and help the student to be comfortable in their surroundings.

Lessons are tailored to fit each individual student's ability and goals. I believe in challenging students while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment. Lessons will cover music theory, technique, and solo pieces. The goal is to develop in each student the specific skills needed to play a string instrument as well as to nurture an understanding and love for music.

Since 2011, I've had the joy of teaching students how to play the violin to the best of their ability. From six year olds just starting out to adults in their 80s who want to learn just for fun, I've successfully taught the skills and techniques to make music on this beautiful instrument.
With a gentle, patient approach, I custom-tailor each lesson to the student's goals, interests, and abilities. Within that framework, I place an emphasis on proper position, technique and intonation. To provide a thorough and well-rounded music education, I also teach note reading, music theory, and ear-training. I do everything I can to make learning fun and engaging -- often using games, flashcards, and interactive exercises to teach certain concepts, especially for younger players. Complex skills are broken down into "bite-sized" pieces that are easy to understand. They are then layered on top of one another sequentially. Through it all, I provide students with steady encouragement and just the ...

Why TakeLessons?
Hear From TakeLessons Violin Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Each lesson consists of scales and arpeggios, scale studies, etudes, bow studies, and one or two pieces of music. Nader teaches with an emphasis on the fundamentals (scales, arpeggios, scale studies, etc.) so as to build the best foundation possible. As far as music goes, the pieces vary with respect to time period and style. Over the years I played and performed several Baroque pieces (Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Leclair Sonata) some Classical pieces (Mozart Violin Concerto) and many Romantic pieces (to name a few: Wienawski Violin Concerto, Debussy’s Claire De Lune, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance, Saint-Saens’ Introduction et. Rondo Capriccioso, Bruch Violin Concerto, Manuel de Falla’s Asturiana) and a few modern pieces (e.g. Barber’s Violin Concerto). For the beginning student, Nader usually chooses a few selections from the Suzuki books, although he doesn’t necessarily teach the Suzuki method. He will also incorporate sight singing (Melodia) and ear training into the lesson to ensure that the student develops and sharpens a proper musical ear.
Over the years I was introduced to and learned many of the important techniques associated with stringed instruments (e.g. vibrato, octaves, fingered octaves, double and triple stops, chords, artificial harmonics, Spicatto, Staccato (and other common bow manipulations), proper shifting between all positions, pizzicato, phrasing, etc.) He has an extensive knowledge of technique and composition which he uses to give the student the best education possible on the matter. Nader also makes sure the student understands that there is more to music than simply playing the notes. He teaches how to phrase and incorporate one’s own musicality into the piece. He also teaches the student about the culture and history surrounding the composer/piece that they are working on. This is not only informative, but also keeps one interested even if they find the piece difficult or frustrating.
There is an annual concert where all the students perform the pieces they had been working on with Nader. This is a fun event with a relaxed yet professional atmosphere where students can showcase their talent and technical improvement. I always enjoyed these concerts as they were a tangible reminder of my own improvement and achievements.
In retrospect, I found my lessons with Nader to be a very well-rounded experience. Not only did I learn how to play an instrument, but I learned how to be a musician. He is an awesome teacher and I cherish the time I spent learning from him; I wouldn't trade my experiences with Nader for anything. He always pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of and I learned so much from that. He is a very amiable, patient, passionate, generous, and patient teacher, so don’t be afraid to call! Whether you are young or old, beginner or advanced, there is always more to learn. Let Nader be your next teacher!"

Would recommend without hesitation! Is excellent and extremely thorough! I was faculty director before retiring from a college. Wish I had all faculty like Hallie!"

Just What is Musicality, Anyway? Musicality is defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the quality of being musical.” What does that mean, though? Is there a method to defining what is musical versus what is not? One can instinctively hear when a phrase sounds natural, beautiful, convincing - musical - versus when it is not. Phrasing, much like public speaking, can be made more or less convincing depending on the manner with which you deliver a phrase. Quantz, the famous …
