Specializing in a comprehensive approach to music which includes instrumental technique, music theory, rhythm and aural skills, music history and appreciation, music performance and songwriting in order to build a solid foundation in musicianship. Pop, Rock, Country and Folk genres.

Each lesson is tailored to fit each individual student. We will cover genres of music that is of interest to you, using music you enjoy most so learning the guitar will be fun. Even if you have experience playing guitar, I will be able to show you alternative strum patterns, picking patterns, useful techniques, tricks and short-cuts to make playing easier. This applies to whether you are learning acoustic, classical or electric guitar. I have a blast teaching and my students have fun learning!

I studied jazz guitar with Derek DiCenzo at Ohio State University, and have performed extensively in the genres of rock, blues, country, and classical music.

Since 1998, I have taught as many as forty private students per week, many of whom have gone on to pursue the instrument through college, conservatory, and performance.

FUN!!! Learning guitar should be fun! I teach electric and acoustic guitar in a fun way. The exercises that I have you do are not boring, they are actual songs that you get better and better at playing.
I mix up the lessons and your practice with a combination of scales that can turn into instant leads, cords and the combination of cords that make up a family called a "key". I teach a variety of strum and picking patterns and styles, from folk to reggae to rock. The latest thing in playing melodies is tablature, I teach that, but I also believe that you need to be able to play regular notes as well. Best of all, you do not have to be a great lead guitarist to be a star, and if you want to sing while you play I can definitely teach you that!

When taking a lesson from me you can expect a fun and attentive one on one lesson. I am thorough and patient. I expect you to love music and put forth effort. I'm laid back, I will work as fast or as slow as you need. I prefer a total immersion technique, to get my students playing right away. I Feel this boosts their confidence and help foster interest. In my experience once a student enjoys playing you don't have to convince them to practice.

By the first lesson you will be familiar with the instrument and it's parts, and playing your first chord. With a little work and some practice in 3-6 months you will be playing guitar have a greater knowledge of chords, basic harmony know a few scales and be able to play some awesome songs. Once you have a foundation of chords we can explore the more specific things you want to learn musically. I will get you through the basics and then the lesson will become more personalized.
