About Shakeatha
I have sung for as long as I could speak! I hail from a family of recording artists and have graced the stage since the age of 4. During high school, I learned to read music and took piano lessons. This peaked my interest in wanting to learn the fundamentals of music so I decided to major in it in college.

I then went on to Xavier University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at Xavier I participated in many productions. I also received a Xavier University Music Scholarship for four years. I have noted my experience in detail: Xavier University of Louisiana-Senior Recital; Xavier University Student Recital – “Opera under the Stars”, April 2008; Xavier University Concert Choir Midwest Tour – Soloist for “Amazing Grace”, April 2008; Xavier University of Louisiana Student Productions - Treemonisha (2004), Purlie (2005);
Xavier University University Chorus; 2004-2009; Xavier Concert Choir; 2004-2009; Vocalist with Recording Artist: Josh Jones Nu Horizon, New Orleans, Louisiana; Vocalist with Recording Artist: Bishop Alvin Davis & Company, Baldwin, LA; Greater St. Stephan Gospel Choir and Praise Team; Background Studio Vocalist for Ebony Lockett (2009), Community of Faith Praise Team, 2012-2013

Currently, I sing at many venues and with various groups throughout Houston area. In addition to all of this, I also perform a great deal of gospel music on the praise team at the Community of Faith.

As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise different genres, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with my students.

To my future students:

I sit down at our first lesson to make a Custom Lesson Plan for what you want to study and goals you want to achieve.

I want to help you reach your goals and make you happy as a singer, so I am open to teach you anything no matter how little/much experience you have.

Next, we will pick a fun area to work on, and a challenging area to conquer. For example: we will work on a fun song then we will work on reading and/or rudiments.
I am also very patient and flexible to those students whom have special needs, or need to accelerate at a slower pace.

I have been working with Mrs.Shakeatha for sometime now. I'll never forget my very first lesson, I was so nervous, for many different reasons, but without even trying she made the atmosphere welcoming, nonjudgmental, noncritical, and enjoyable. she is extremely patient, has never been rude, harsh, or critical, even within the past lessons. She is very professional, very intellectual (on many things, not strictly musically or vocally), very positive, very thorough, very loyal, and very helpful. She is able to coach at a professional level while still always reminding me to keep it fun, and to enjoy the process. She neither sugar coats nor over exaggerates, and has always had my best interest in mind. The months under her coaching I have been extremely beneficial and I have (and still am) learning so much. It's been a great experience, and I look forward to the years to come!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND VOICE LESSONS WITH MRS.SHAKEATHA , SHE IS A AWESOME WOMEN!!!

Kerry is an awesome instructor! He's professional for starters. He adheres to the time that is set and/or communicates if it requires otherwise. He is great at setting a child and parent at ease. His level of knowledge and experience is exceptional. One can tell he really loves his craft. He chose to teach my 3 year old when most instructors wouldn't because of his age given that my son wasn't 5 years of age. My little one enjoys the lesson, therefore I enjoy the lesson. He also encourages parents to get involved with the lesson. Overall, I am enjoying the investment and will continue as long as my child is willing to learn and Kerry is willing to teach. Parents should know that going with this instructor wouldn't be a waste.

I am an enthusiastic and fun teacher. I acquired my bachelor's and master's degree in piano performance. I started playing piano at the age of 6. Since I was 8 years old, I have been trained systematically and professionally throughout my years in school. My solo performances and recitals were held when I was attending the University of Wyoming. I have great passion towards performing in public, but I found greater love in teaching piano. I have 10 years of teaching experiences. I believe that the piano is our best friend and keep it close to our heart and shares this love with the world when we play.

Strict but fun and enthusiastic, these words were said by my students after years of teaching. In Piano lessons, I assign diverse music repertories in order to assist students to have the ability to grasp the essen
tials of each different style of music. Learning piano skills is very important, but note-reading, theory, ear training and music history can't be neglected. One or two recitals will be provided by me, all the students are encouraged to participate in the recitals.Students are also encouraged to take advanced performance opportunities, in church, school, and joint studio recitals. I must be notified at least one month in advance if the student desires to participate in the events.

I have my Bachelor of Music degree, so I am very comfortable teaching beginner and intermediate Music Theory. I have lots of different ways that I like to teach it! I have plenty of games that I like to play. :) My students can expect a variety during my Music Theory lessons: There may be some instrument playing, possibly games, some book work, some piano work (don't worry!) - but I DO promise you will learn a lot and have fun doing it!

About Elyse
Hi, Everyone! Thank you so much for taking a moment to read my blurb! My name is Elyse, and I can't wait to meet you! I've taught music in small ensembles since July, 2007 by helping out marching bands. It was so much fun! Teaching and music are my biggest passions.

**If you're going to make a mistake, make a loud one!!**

I want my students to know right off the bat it's okay to make mistakes! My philosophy is: You make mistakes. Mistakes don't make you. :) We fix them and learn together.

I have classroom taught since 2010 - General Music and Choir. I have been teaching private lessons since 2014, and I have absolutely LOVED helping my students read music, excel at playing or singing songs that they enjoy, and seeing their happiness and excitement when they realize how much they have achieved.

In 2009, I graduated from Kent S
tate University, located in Kent, OH, and I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I'm definitely a fun-loving, outgoing person, and my teaching style is tailored to my students; a think-outside-the-box style, and hands-on.

Let's get together, reach for those stars, and grab your goals!

About Vaughn
I have been playing the guitar for over 11 years of my life, and have been involved in music for as long as I could remember. My history includes learning from famous Houstonian guitarist Nick Rawson, playing live with multiple bands, managing my own musical project, and teaching dozens of students for the past few years.

My mission is to help inspire and help bring out the artist that is dormant in each person. The philosophical approach that we champion is to not only provide the tools necessary to create complete musicians, but to connect and ignite the passion within.

I earned my Bachelor's in Music from Berklee College of Music where I focused on performance, education and ear training. When you have a properly trained ear and enough understanding of music theory, the doors are open to any and all styles.

I've taught general music at a school in the Galapagos Islands, coached student ensembles, tutored college level music theory and worked with students with moderate-severe handicaps.

I have a deep fondness for music from all over the world, and some of my favorites are Classical Indian Music, Pakistani Qawwali, Balkan Music and Kirtan. This means we can work on any style you like!

About Andrew
I earned my music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where I focused on performance, education and ear training. My principal instrument is drum set, but I also enjoy playing guitar and ukulele. I started teaching private drum lessons when I was in high school, taught music for two years at a small school in the Galapagos Islands and spent some time working at a school for students with severe disabilities where I also taught music. Most of my schooling was in contemporary styles like Jazz, Latin, Blues and Rock, but I very much enjoy music from around the world. Lately some of my favorites are: Qawwali, Kirtan, Balkan and Moroccan music.

I believe firmly in the teaching principle of "Rote Before Note." Reading sheet music is certainly a great skill, but having ears that are tuned in is the greatest asset for a music
ian. I start by teaching without sheet music so that students start focusing on listening, start developing musical memory and because it's great fun! Because I studied music education in college and have worked in schools, I know how to develop an appropriate curriculum for each student.

For students that stick with me or are already established on their instrument, we will work on incorporating deeper concepts into their music, such as, "How can you make your playing fluid like water?" "How would you demonstrate Yin Yang harmony in your playing?"

I look forward to exploring music and having a fun time with you!
