Enjoyed working with Neil. Very professional and I felt very comfortable with his teaching methods. Unfortunately I will not be able to continue my lessons with him in home since I am considered high risk for the virus. I will be canceling the remainder of my in-home lessons and picking them up at a later date

I'd love to help you hone your technique and practice habits so you are working efficiently to become the best musician you can be. Whatever your goals may be - getting a better chair in your school orchestra, getting into your local youth orchestra, getting a great mark on your solo and ensemble contests, or just being able to enjoy playing more - I can help you with that! I'm kind, but firm, and if you enjoy paying attention to detail, and learning things correctly right from the start, I think we'd be a great match!

I worked with Laura through my high school years. She has been very helpful, and has worked with me so that I can have the best musical experience possible. She has always been very approachable and easy to talk to! The lessons were always very fun; she always made sure to give me a safe space to make music and not feel judged. Whenever looking into colleges and audition times came up, she knew how to approach the situation and how to prepare me for them! I am so grateful to have gotten to work with her!

Laura is a very encouraging, supportive teacher that pushes her students and works hard to help them be successful. I have been a student of hers for about 5 years now and I've experienced how amazing she is firsthand. She always motivates me to be the best I can be and improve beyond that. She makes herself available between lessons for questions and advice, which has always been super helpful. Overall, studying under her has been an enlightening, wonderful experience.

Laura is a dedicated violinist and teacher. As her colleague in the San Antonio Symphony, I am always impressed with her warmth, kindness and communication skills. She is a wonderful violinist, great team player and her personality will always brighten up your day!

When it comes to violin I use both book and audio. I want to help my students learn to not only read the music but to also hear and feel it. I have been teaching this way for the last few years and found that my students have a deeper understanding of the music by learning the see with their ears. Each student is tasked with coming up with goals that they want to reach, goals their parents would like for them to reach and from there a personalized path for learning is created and followed.

About April

I picked up music when I was very young and have never looked back. I started with the piano and then moved on to the violin, of which I competed regularly in up until high school. In high school I switched the viola and found it to me even more amazing. During high school I competed again in music

As a well qualified and experienced violin teacher (teaching privately since 2007), I work with students in many different ways to help achieve goals and ensure enjoyment and success. Individualized lesson plans are created to cater to the needs and goals of each student. I strive in every lesson to integrate multiple focal points such as the development of proper technique, ear training, music reading, music theory, and musicianship.

About Carolyn

I’ve been self-employed since 1990 and am a professional violin teacher, violinist, and luthier (building, repair, and maintenance of string instruments). I am an active orchestral musician and have played with the Northland Symphony Orchestra for 30+ seasons (that’s a lot of notes). I graduated fr

Carolyn is a great teacher who learns each student’s strengths and weaknesses and is able to create lessons based on individual needs. She has the ability to make learning to play more fun than work.🙂

I have taken private and ensemble lessons with Carolyn for many years, both in person and recently via Skype. She is an excellent, professional teacher and musician, tailoring each lesson to my ability and learning style. Her sense of humor and can-do spirit are real motivators. Whenever I have an issue with my instrument, Carolyn's knowledge and experience as a luthier fix the problem so the it does not become a roadblock. As an older student, I would say that if you've ever wanted to learn to play the violin, do it! Carolyn can get you started (or continue) on the path to violin playing enjoyment.
Tony
I have been taking violin lessons from Carolyn Alter for 10 months, so I am still very new at this. For the past 4 weeks, we have been doing the lessons on line using Skype. I did not know how this would work at first, but the on line lessons are extremely convenient and very easy to do. We can talk back and forth just as if we were in the same room. Also, the lessons can be recorded so I can review them later if I’m having difficulties with a certain piece. The ability to go back over the lesson as often as I need to helps remind me of the instructions/corrections offered by Carolyn during the lesson. I suppose you could call it a lesson on demand. I believe you could do the on line lesson even if you never had an in-person lesson because, again, it’s just like you’re in the same room. Carolyn is an excellent teacher. She really knows what she is doing so she is able to give clear easy to understand instructions. I don’t think you will be disappointed at all if you take on line lessons from her.

Violin Scales for Beginners [G Major Scale Tutorial & More!]

One of the most important aspects when learning how to play the violin is understanding scales. Learning scales will give you a solid foundation as you begin to explore new pieces of music. Violin Scales for Beginners Simply put, a violin scale is a series of notes, ordered by frequency or pitch, that span an octave (a consecutive set of eight notes.) For instance, to play a G scale, start by playing the lowest G on your violin (open G string.) Then, ascend up in pitch and play the note …
