Music theory teaches the basics of how music works. It's learning the language behind music. In lessons we use music theory to understand music better, play music by ear and by sight, and learn how song formation and songwriting works.

About James
A versatile musician and teacher, Nashville-born musician James is dedicated to music through education, performance and personal growth. James has a diverse background in the musical arts. He has served as violinist and principal violist in many orchestras and ensembles. As a vocalist, James has sung in opera, oratorio, master-classes and recitals as a countertenor soloist. He has served as director of the Clarksville Youth Orchestra at Austin Peay State University and currently serves as the Director of Music Ministries and choirs for a local Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. He maintains a private studio in Nashville, TN and is on the faculty of the Allegro School of Music.

James has studied with many experts in vocal science and pedagogy and has had the wonderful opportunity to study with Linda Ferrara, D. Lance Respess, R
ichard Miller, world-class early music expert Nancy Zylstra and twentieth-century vocal music expert Sharon Mabry. He has had masterclasses with the Metropolitan Opera's Bodo Igesz, Metropolitan Opera Singers Daniel Taylor, Jennifer Lane (with whom he still studies), French-diction coach Elvia Pucinelli, vocal pedagogue Richard Miller, and Thomas King, director of the AIMS Gratz program. He also maintains membership with various educational organizations such as the American String Teacher's Association, Music Educator'€™s National Conference, and Early Music America.

In addition to working with and coaching Grammy award-winning and nominated artists, Mr. W's students have auditioned, been selected and have performed in the Tennessee Mid-State and All-State Choir (principal positions) and Orchestra Festivals (violin and cello, in addition to being members of the Curb Youth Orchestra and Philharmonia at the Blair School of Music.

His students have also performed in several professional and amateur performances across the Southeast. As a teacher many have described my style as nurturing-but-firm. When I see a student's potential, I make sure that student can attain it. I expect a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a want for excellence. In return, I offer the tools to get the student there!

I know that not every student benefits best from only one method. As such, I employ a variety of teaching tools and methods to best suit each student. Strings students can expect to see a little bit of traditional training, a little bit of Suzuki and little bit of contemporary training. Voice students can see some Sieber vocalizes, some Vaccai, classical, jazz, and musical theater training built on an old-world teaching technique. It's all about giving the student the tools to do whatever he/she wants with his/her music of choice!

On your first lesson, I'll go over the materials needed, what you need to work on, and the very basics so you can immediately get to enjoying your new craft. In a few months, you'll be confident making new music or making better music. Within a year, you should be well prepared for one of my studio recitals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a commercial music teaching studio used solely for the purposes of teaching. In the studio there is a piano, my music library, photo copier, computer, audio equipment, stereo, music stands, standing mirror, and various teaching tools. There is a waiting area for parents, siblings and other visitors.

*** Specialties ***

James has been a wonderful teacher. He has greatly helped me advance in my beginning cello skills by carefully observing, demonstrating as needed, then showing me the things I can do to improve. He does this in such a manner that instead of feeling discouraged, I am even more motivated to improve. I am learning cello as an adult simply for the fun of trying something new. My wife, who played flute on scholarship through college and some professionally has noticed, and commented, on the improvement. In summary, I highly recommend James for both adults and for kids. He just has a great knack for teaching.

Students can expect my absolute best effort to help them grow with music and through music. They can expect to be studying with someone who will listen to them, be honest with them, and invest in them as a person.

About Berkeley
I have been living, working, and playing music in Nashville since 2008, and graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music. In addition to guitar lessons and theory tutoring, I also offer ear-training (sometimes known as aural skills). Having started out as a folk/blues player with no background in theory and then going on to study music at the university level, I approach private teaching seeking to balance the two worlds, while keeping in mind that love for what you do is the ultimate motivator. I therefore constantly do my best to assess each student's waxing or waning interest in the current material.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be laid-back, and include some discussion, instruction, review, and feedback. However, if there is one consistent element that all my lessons share, it's exp
osure. One goal will always be to leave the student with some music they've never heard before. Constant discovery is a surefire way to keep the love for music alive and healthy, and can even rekindle it.
Instructional and study materials will be based on subjects/techniques being taught, and could include The Real Book, materials from my own instructors (past and present), and any textbooks I've acquired while in music school.

*** Studio Equipment ***
guitars, keyboards, amps, etc. All the students needs to bring is his or her instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar - I will bring a guitar and amp, and the student will need his or her own guitar and amp, if applicable

*** Specialties ***
electric blues, classic rock, modern country, etc.

About Jerry
Always wanted to learn to play piano? Now is the time! My name is Jerry Seaberg and I am an experienced, patient, gentle teacher, with over 20 years teaching and performing experience.

As a performer, I have shared the stage with such recording artists as Herbie Hancock, Mary Wells, Jessie Colin Young, Greg Khin, Linda Cotton and C.C. Schilling, among others. For almost 20 years I worked in various bands and travelled extensively across the western United States while living in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I am a certified teacher with a B.A. in Music Education from Elmhurst College, IL and studied jazz piano with Mark Steidel and Susan Muscarella at U.C. Berkeley, CA. I taught music at Westchester Elementary School in Westchester, IL and Jane Addams and Lincoln Schools in Melrose Park, IL. I have been teaching privately since 199
0.

I teach all aspects of piano pedagogy: reading, technique, theory, harmony, chord vocabulary, ear-training. I work very well with children and beginners, but also cater to older students, especially those students interested in jazz.

I live in Goodlettsville and I can make your life easier by travelling to your home. My rates are very reasonable.

I am available for performances, everything from weddings, parties, corporate events, restaurants, etc. I play a variety of music from jazz standards to pop songs; perfect for creating a comfortable and classy atmosphere.

If you like, you may also hear me play at Woody’s Steakhouse in Madison, TN every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6-9pm. Mention you saw me here, I’d love to talk with you.

Make 2018 the year you finally learn to play, it can be fun and rewarding.

Thanks,

Jerry Seaberg

We absolutely LOVE Jerry! My 10 yr. old daughter has been taking lessons with Jerry for 2 years now and my 8 year old son has been taking lessons for one year. My daughter has advanced so much and she loves to play. She says what she likes most is that Jerry is very patient and he is very kind and understanding. My son learns in a completely different way than my daughter and Jerry has mastered both of their personalities. Almost anything goes with my daughter but my son loses interest quickly. One day Jerry showed up with Star Wars music. We haven't been able to keep him off the piano since. He will get up before school in the morning and practice. Best experience ever!!!

I have my degree in music theory and composition, and can help you understand the theory for any instrument or purpose, from the basics (keys, rhythm) to advanced techniques (compound meter, modern composition techniques).

About David
I am an experienced music teacher with over 20 years’ playing and performance experience. My specialties are in trumpet and electric bass, with additional experience teaching all brass instruments and beginning guitar. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well.

I believe in tailoring each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands, I try to provide lessons that augment and complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. For all my students, regardless of level or instrument, I help them learn music that they want to learn, while making sure they get the fundamental training that they need. I encourage and assist my stud
ents in finding opportunities to perform in solo performances and with other groups. I also pride myself in creating an environment where the students are comfortable asking questions to help improve their playing.

Contact me for lessons today to enhance your playing.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my lessons are very personalized based on the student's interests, strengths, and weakness. For all my students, I try to find music for them to play that they are interested in learning while still covering the everything they need to get a solid foundation on their instrument. For my brass players, I place a huge emphasis on tone quality and production.

Music Theory can be taught within an instrumental lesson (voice and piano) or in a lesson by itself. I LOVE music theory, and if you've never liked it or been able to grasp it before, it's time to change that! Beginners will master fundamentals such as note-reading, keys, time-signature, rhythms, intervals, scales, chords, and harmonic progressions. Intermediate to Advanced students will build on these skills and learn part-writing and score analysis (both tonal and atonal). Private lessons are an excellent compliment to music theory classes taught in schools, especially for any student who needs outside tutoring.

I am a composer with a Master of Music in music theory and composition from New York University.

About Natalie
Hi, everyone!

I'm so excited to be in Music City! I just moved to Nashville from New York City where I worked with Broadway performers and kids auditioning for some of the most competitive performance schools in the country. I'm confident I can help you achieve your music goals, whether they be learning to produce a powerful, resonate, healthy sound with your voice, becoming proficient in piano from everything from Bach to Billy Joel, or writing clear, catchy songs that will have a big impact on an audience.

Please check out my bio below and feel free to ask me any questions about lessons with the "Ask a Question" button.

Hope to be working with you very soon!

xoxo

He has an incredible knowledge of music from both a theory POV as well as different genres, styles and music eras. He is really fun to work with and and is always supportive and encouraging.
