As a teacher many have described my style as nurturing-but-firm. When I see a student's potential, I make sure that student can attain it. I expect a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a want for excellence. In return, I offer the tools to get the student there!

I know that not every student benefits best from only one method. As such, I employ a variety of teaching tools and methods to best suit each student. Strings students can expect to see a little bit of traditional training, a little bit of Suzuki and little bit of contemporary training. Voice students can see some Sieber vocalizes, some Vaccai, classical, jazz, and musical theater training built on an old-world teaching technique. It's all about giving the student the tools to do whatever he/she wants with his/her music of choice!

On your first lesson, I'll go over the materials needed, what you need to work on, and the very basics so you can immediately get to enjoying your new craft. In a few months, you'll be confident making new music or making better music. Within a year, you should be well prepared for one of my studio recitals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a commercial music teaching studio used solely for the purposes of teaching. In the studio there is a piano, my music library, photo copier, computer, audio equipment, stereo, music stands, standing mirror, and various teaching tools. James has been a wonderful teacher. He has greatly helped me advance in my beginning cello skills by carefully observing, demonstrating as needed, then showing me the things I can do to improve. He does this in such a manner that instead of feeling discouraged, I am even more motivated to improve. I am learning cello as an adult simply for the fun of trying something new. My wife, who played flute on scholarship through college and some professionally has noticed, and commented, on the improvement. In summary, I highly recommend James for both adults and for kids. He just has a great knack for teaching.

*** Lesson Details ***
All students who sign up for lessons will receive a basic fundamental foundation of musical knowledge. Once the fundamentals are understood and assessed, we can then begin to take a more in depth approach in reaching the student's specific goals as a musician. Aspiring songwriters, usually playing piano or guitar will have a different agenda than a high school saxophonist practicing for their state music assessments. Lessons are built around each student's specific interests.

It is important to know that your musical goals can be met with consistent practice, discipline, and dedication to your chosen instrument. So what is the most valuable and sometimes the most difficult skill musicians must learn and subscribe to? HOW to practice...and that will be the underlying theme to each and every lesson we share. The way we practice shapes us as musicians!

Remember that each time people hear you play or sing, you are only compared to the best there is. Smart practice makes perfect!

*** Studio Equipment ***
88 keys fully-weighted, music stand; iPad, Metronome, musical literature.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Apple iPad, metronome

*** Specialties ***

I also place a big emphasis on HOW to practice rather than just how often.

Good first lesson with Dave. He's a great communicator and seemed to understand my level of music experience; he knew the right subjects to linger on, and what information he could skip over, confident that I already knew it. I felt like we were able to cover a lot of ground in 45 short minutes.

1000% Satisfied! Highly Recommend To Anyone!
Jerry is a very skilled pianist and phenomenal piano instructor! Don't let his reasonable rates fool you into thinking that the quality of his teaching is anything less than spectacular. He thoroughly enjoys teaching piano lessons and music theory in many genres to people of all ages, paces himself to assist in your level of understanding, and makes learning to play the piano fun.
My eight year old daughter got a keyboard for Christmas so I decided to get her piano lessons to accompany her new instrument. I began searching for a local piano teacher who was reasonably priced, yet, also experienced with teaching children, and I couldn't have found a better person to do so than Jerry S!
My child had been previously diagnosed with ADHD and ODD so she tends to be very distracted, rambunctious, inquisitive, and defiant at times, however, it's never seemed to phase Jerry at all. He was open minded and seemingly very understanding of her condition. He is very friendly, easy going individual who has always been extremely patient with my child, despite her occasional outbursts.
In conclusion, I honestly feel that we are truly fortunate (and blessed) to have found such an amazing piano instructor, for an affordable rate, who's patient and keeps the student engaged, while also making it a fun filled learning experience to play the piano!

We absolutely LOVE Jerry! My 10 yr. old daughter has been taking lessons with Jerry for 2 years now and my 8 year old son has been taking lessons for one year. My daughter has advanced so much and she loves to play. She says what she likes most is that Jerry is very patient and he is very kind and understanding. My son learns in a completely different way than my daughter and Jerry has mastered both of their personalities. Almost anything goes with my daughter but my son loses interest quickly. One day Jerry showed up with Star Wars music. We haven't been able to keep him off the piano since. He will get up before school in the morning and practice. Best experience ever!!!

About Zander
I am a Nashville session musician, sideman and music teacher. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music with a Composition and Arranging Emphasis from Belmont University and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Music at MTSU. Coming from a family of Classical and Jazz musicians, I have been exposed to music my whole life. Over the years I have had the opportunity to play and record with many great bands and artists ranging from Country/Bluegrass to Rock to Jazz. I teach all genres of guitar, bass, banjo ukulele and mandolin.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the ability to play an instrument is only part of musicianship. I also strive to teach my students the theory behind the music they learn. I work hard to make sure that my students are doing everything in the easiest way possible. I want to ensure that they are
able to progress quickly enough so that they can see the difference. The most rewarding moment as a teacher is when a student points out how hard something once was and how easy it has become.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music store environment. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with all teaching equipment needed but a music stand is recommended for the lessons and for practicing.

He's super patient and sets very realistic expectations. I really like that he cared to ask me what songs I liked and would like to learn instead of starting with generic songs like 'twinkle twinkle' because it gave me more motivation to practice and learn. I have written for albums, film, video games, even virtual reality! I love sharing my knowledge of music and tailoring my lessons to your goals. I am a composer and studied at Berklee College of Music. I have a extremely well rounded understanding of music theory and musical styles. Whether you are a musician playing in a band, an artist wanting to better your arrangements, or you are a complete beginner, I am positive I can help you develop your musicianship and have fun at the same time! I am looking forward to starting lessons with you!

About Daniel
I am a video game composer, drummer, and bassist. I have a wide range of experience from writing music and conducting a small orchestra to being a drummer in a funk rock band. I studied film and video game composition at Berklee College of Music and have been playing since I was 13.

I believe that music lessons should always be providing practical knowledge. As a student of mine studying music theory, you can expect not only to learn but truly utilize the information. You will become more aware of what is going on when you hear music. My main goal is that you gain greater control over your creative process and develop your "inner ear". I deeply believe that knowing music theory is an amazing tool to have as a musician.

I love teaching music theory: from the very basics to the farthest reaching topics.
I started off my musical car
eer at 13 as a self taught drummer and have a foundation in rhythmic studies. I later received a formal education at Berklee where I studied composition and learned how to develop melodies and harmony. Furthermore, I am proficient in ear training, sight reading, orchestration and arrangement, music synthesis, and music technology. In a musical world where rules are broken and ever changing, I believe in building lessons around your interests and aspirations.

I am passionate about a wide range of different kinds of music. Here are some of my biggest influences: Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Yoko Shimomura, Steve Reich, Frank Zappa, and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
