Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. Maya joined the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in 2007. After receiving her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in 2001, she became a member of the Honolulu Symphony. In Hawaii, she recorded with the prestigious Hawaiian singer Keali’i Reichel on his album Ke’alaokamaile, which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005.

A native of Japan, Maya received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts. She attended seminars in Japan and England with the Amadeus Quartet and performed in both countries as a member of the Sunrise String Quartet.

In the United States, Shiraishi studied with Masao Kawasaki on scholarships at the Juilliard School, where she received a master’s degree in 2001. She has also studied with Garrett Fischbach from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Yoko Takebe from the New York Philharmonic. I am a professional orchestral musician who was classically trained at the world's best music conservatories, and I love teaching music to students of all ability levels! I am currently a member in the Pittsburgh Symphony, but I have played regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra, and I used to be a member of Chicago's Grant Park Orchestra and the Kansas City Symphony.

I graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and I also attended the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Music has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I started playing violin when I was 2 years old, and I would love to share the joy of playing music with you!

Welcome to my violin and viola studio! I believe that every student can enjoy the process of studying an instrument, and can learn to play with ease and joy. As a result, I work to determine each student's learning style, look for ways to encourage individual ownership of learning, and adapt my approach to help meet each student’s needs and goals. I teach both Suzuki and traditional lessons, and draw from a variety of musical styles and approaches to help students develop a broad range of skills that include a strong technical foundation, ear training, sight-reading, ensemble playing, and musical self-expression. Through this approach, I hope to help students develop a lifelong love for music that will serve them in all future endeavors, musical or otherwise.

I am a professional cellist with a graduate degree in music and extensive performing and teaching experience. I look forward to working with you or your child to help accomplish your goals and have fun making music! Lessons are tailored to each students needs and abilities, and I have vast experience working with students of all ages and abilities, from elementary students to college students. I teach online and in-person lessons.

I can provide private lessons for beginner-intermediate level violin and viola students who are in elementary-middle school. I also provide beginner-advanced cello lessons for students of all ages.
