Travis C. classical guitarist, teacher and performer recently completed his Masters of Music at the Lamont School of Music located at the University of Denver, where he also completed his Bachelors of Music in 2009. Travis is a great instructor

Great experience so far!

I've certainly enjoyed my beginning guitar lessons with Travis. He takes the time to answer my questions and explain things to I understand the music and the best techniques to use. Welcome to my profile - I can't wait to start working with you!

I have been teaching piano and general music topics for over 10 years, and I am currently on the faculty at California State University Los Angeles - needless to say, I've seen students from all ages, all backgrounds and all levels. Lucky for me, they all one thing in common: a strong desire to learn music, and an open mind!

Some of my younger students have gone on to audition for arts high school in the greater LA area, and I've also helped a few prepare for college auditions. I've also been working with several students to prepare Certificate of Merit exams (in California) and I have been affiliated with the Southwestern Youth Music Festival as well. Other little ones were quite content learning how to play their favorite Christmas song or impress their fri
ends at their school's talent show.

I have also taught adults, who used to play and decided to pick it up again - or newbies wanting to discover the wonders of jazz standards.

In short, whatever your personal goal is, I can help you achieve it and hopefully inspire you to set a new goal to achieve right after that!

I can also help with music theory entrance exams, tutor for AP music classes or college classes, etc.

*Quick note on online lessons:
Many prospective students are wary of online lessons and not sure if it's the right way to go for them - I always tell them that you'll never know until you try it for sure! I have taken online lessons myself in the past and loved the experience. I can also attest that several students get a much deeper musical understanding this way, because teachers can't just play an example and have the student copy it - the teacher actually needs to explain how to perform the passage, which leads to the student understanding clearly what is expected and how to achieve it, rather than just copy someone's hand movements without understanding why they are doing it in this particular way. I'm sure you'll also be more relaxed in the comfort of your own environment, at your own scheduled time!

A great teacher who can adapt to all levels. I was worried about the quality of online lessons since it was something I've never tried before, but was astounded by how productive it has been. Andree-Ann is very attentative, knowledgeable, and relatable. She explains things in a way that breaks complex things down into something easier to understand. And she is observant! Even on skype she can catch incorrect fingering, and doesn't let you get away with bad habits. She's brilliant and a great teacher.

I've been wanting to learn jazz piano for years and skype lessons with Andree-Ann has made this possible. She's very knowledgeable of the subject and supportive and patient. She's been very willing to individualize lessons to incorporate instructional material and songs I'm interested in working on. From my experience I would recommend her without reservation.

Andree-Ann is a great teacher! I hadn't formally played piano in about twenty years when I decided to start taking lessons again. It's like she picked me up and scrubbed all the rust off and now I'm playing better than I think I ever played. She's super patient, breaks the music down into digestible parts, tells you what you need to work on but also acknowledges your improvements and the things you've done well. As an adult learner, the pieces I'm working on is mostly self-directed with her guidance, which is cool. I would totally recommend her.

Born and raised in the city of Yerevan, Armenia, by the age of seven, Arshak S.’s natural musical talent had already come to the attention of Sergey Kechek, Director of the A. Spendiarov School of Music; one of the leading musical academies in Armenia. Studying under unparalleled teacher and a music mentor Arkuhi Harutyunyan, Arshak continued his study of classical piano styles for the next 10 years, performing solo concerts and going so far as to receive the third place award at the 1994 Armenian National J. S. Bach Concerto Competition. Later, he attended and graduated from Komitas State Conservatory, where he concentrated on Composition and Piano Performance under the tutelage of Stephan Rostomyan and Georgy Kasabyan. In the fallowing years Arshak has composed classical and contemporary compositions for vocal, piano, clarinet, string q

In 2008 Arshak found and produced a band by name “Double Sharp“ with his two childhood friends Levon Mikaelian and Nune Vartanyan, which also includes two veterans of American jazz scene Tony Bunn and Wes Crawford. This gave a birth to the album “With a Song in My Heart“. The same year he began working on his trio album “Journal“ [Released in 2010] and Tony’s project “Small World“ [Released in 2009] with Dennis Chambers on drums. In May 2010, “Twitching Eye“ from the album “Journal” receives “Honorable Mention” from the 2010 International Songwriting Competition.

In late 2012 Arshak began working on his “Hoodman’s Blind” project collaborating with multi Grammy Award winning & nominated musicians from all over the world. I'm a college educated musician who has been employing music theory in a band setting for several years now. A strong base of music theory is a great place to start for new musicians. Knowing the basics of our shared language will especially help when you begin collaborating with other musicians and make communication much easier.

About Ryan
Ryan is a musician from Jefferson Park who plays a plethora of different instruments. He specializes in guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele, but also dabbles in accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and several others. Learning to play instruments is one of the true pleasures in his life and he hopes he can make it one of yours, too.

As a teacher Ryan's goals are fairly simple. First and foremost he wants to make his lessons comfortable, interesting and fun. A close second is to build a strong foundation on the basics, so as we learn more advanced techniques we have a solid base of technique to build upon. And third, an understanding of the theory and history behind the music is a great way to engage in the music beyond just the rote learning of technique.

After a brief foray in physics, Ryan settle into a degree in music at the Univer
sity of Illinois, specializing in Ethnomusicology (the study of music of different cultures). This education gave him a strong background in music theory and history in the Western tradition, but also opened him up to a vast experience of a diverse cross section of music from around the world. His insatiable love for learning new instruments started here, where he studied music from West Africa to Bali.

Currently Ryan is a co-lead singer, songwriter and stringed instrument player for the local band Distant Brothers, a folk rock band based out of Chicago. They play venues throughout the Midwest, with some of the notable venues being House of Blues, Metro and Cubby Bear in Chicago. Another highlight of his time with the band has been a collaboration with Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra, where he not only was able to play in collaboration with the orchestra, but joined in the arranging and conceptualization of some of the pieces played.

Alexander has been teaching my 13 year old son cello for the past 8 months. He is by far the best instructor we have ever had. He is the perfect blend of patient, understanding, encouraging, and talented. I love that he praises what is done well and corrects what needs more work. There isn't anyone that I would trust with my child's musical education more than Alexander.

Theory. Sounds dull, doesn't it?!

With a proper understanding, however, it will be the most important 'tool' in your musical toolbox. It is more than nuts and bolts. It is the very 'reason' music sounds good or bad!

I teach how piano theory can be your friend and ally as we introduce intervals, analyze chord progressions, identify and integrate the I IV V, the ii V I, and other amazing fundamental progressions.

Then more advanced students learn jazz theory fundamentals, altered chords, tri-tone substitutions and other intimidating sounding but easy to learn musical devices. Together, we will tame the beast and make it submit not only to our understanding but to our musical advantage for comping, transposing, substitution and many useful purposes.

What do Star Wars, Billy Joel and Dallas Holm all have in common?

All three inspired me to attempt to play music.

Music has played a very significant role in my life since high school, where 'study hall' was my chance to first play by ear on a grand piano. I LOVED playing music and singing!

Evidently it 'took.' I sooned gained admission through audition to the University of Tennessee where I studied classical, jazz and vocal music with Dr. Bill Dorn, Dean of Piano, and acclaimed jazz master and author Dr. Jerry Coker.

From the World's Fair to the Biltmore House, I have enjoyed performing at these and many other venues. Yet, teaching is my first love musically.

Over the years I have found teaching not only sight-reading based methods but chordal and ear training to be essential elements of enhancing my students and student
performers.

You see, reading sheet music is only a piece of the pie. When you add ear-training, active listening, performance training, multi-genre analysis, accompaniment and collaboration to the educational mix, students begin to understand and LOVE music.

Once students love music, there is no stopping them! Students practice and PLAY more, and they get better because of their enhanced practicing. It becomes less work and more PLAY!

And passionate students become PERFORMERS! Whether for audiences of one or hundreds, the satisfaction and sense of fulfillment is amazing, and THAT is why I teach. The rewards and excitement are mutual, for the student, for me and their audiences.

I have been performing and teaching for over 35 years and love to share my amazing musical experiences (and experience). It could change your approach to music, enhance your appreciation and understanding of music, and quite possibly change your musical life.

I had 2 years of piano lessons as a child followed by 6 years of flute in High School as an intermediate student. After hearing Todd perform at a special event, my life was changed! His passion for performing and playing inspire, engage and transform a room! Of course I wanted to take lessons! As a teacher he took me beyond the fundamentals into theory, key changes, cordal ear training, musical stylizing and so much more.
