In addition to the study of melody, harmony, and rhythm, aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality.

Lessons may also be arranged via Skype.

About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***

I've been playing a few instruments for 23 years, and finally decided to get into violin. Farobag made me realize that I know next to nothing about the violin, and there is so much to learn. I played only a few notes in my first lesson, but his instruction was worth every penny. I am very excited for the next lesson and look forward to learning everything I can from Farobag. Highly recommended.

Mr. Cooper is an experienced teacher. He teaches piano, violin & vocal from basic to advance level. My son has been taking piano classes from him for the past 3+ years. He loves to go to Mr. Cooper's classes. The foremost quality in Mr. Cooper is that he seeks perfection and tries to imbibe the same in his students. He encourages all his students to perform their best and is extremely patient in dealing with his students. Mr. Cooper lets me sit in my son's lessons and I got my 101 on classical music with these sessons. I can appreciate what my son plays and also now able to appreciate classical music in general.
Mr. Cooper encourages all his students to participate in IMA annual contests and puts a lot of effort in preparing his students for the same.

I love to apply current music as a guide to show relationship to theory. It is a fun way to teach this way.

About Patrick
Hi there, my name is Patrick, and I am now a new resident of the Asheville area. I am a music teacher of Trumpet, Piano, Voice and Sound Recording with more than 20 plus years of experience. Below, I relate some of my experiences and philosophies as a teacher of music since 2002.

*** Lesson Details ***
Trumpet Lessons
I have worked with adults and children, with beginners, and with more experienced players looking for a push or a new direction. I have developed many different teaching methods based on what each of my students wants to get out of lessons. The heart of most lessons I teach is learning to play or understand songs. Usually, I rely on my students to select the songs they wish to study, which I then transcribe to make personal arrangements fitted to their abilities. Of course, I will suggest or recommend songs at times.
I also supply relevant exercises and music theory to accelerate the learning process.

Piano Lessons
I differentiate between concepts and skills, while stressing the importance of mastering both. As important as it is to understand the intervalic relationships in something like the major scale, this knowledge does little for the pianist if she or he cannot pick out the notes to the different scales in real time. In observing that each person demonstrates unique learning patterns and abilities, I have learned that some people will come to understand the conceptual through mastery of memorized tasks while some will succeed with technical mastery only after achieving some conceptual understanding.
Voice Lessons
Having first begun singing at 22 years old, I know first hand that it’s never to late to start singing. Having some experience in school but not fully as a professional till in my 20′s, I have learned from some of the top professionals in the South Florida area. My first vocal lessons was with Gloria Estefan’s back up singer Jon Secada. Jon has his first hit “Just Another Day” that stayed at #1 for several weeks. His one lesson really helped me use singing in my gigging around town. From that time on, I have used this technique for all my students. focusing on JUST BREATHING, has helped many of my students.

Teaching Sound Recording
Working in the early 1980s with recorded music and computers, I was introduced to the new wave of recording at its birth. At Miami Dade Community College, I taught and assisted students in Composition, Sound Development, and Sound Recording using Mac computers and PC’s. As of this day, I personally teach recording in Logic Pro, Bias Peak and Mastering using Waves plug ins and having finished products in Mp4 format and or CD’s.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Mac with logic pro software instruments, piano seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
expect students to provide paper and pencil and put in practice time on their respected instruments at least 30 min a week

*** Specialties ***
Alfred,Hanon,Rubank Advanced Method for instruments.

music theory is covered in the most subtle ways and more in depth when needed. How to build a chord, invert it and play, understanding major and minor keys

About Charis
I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have two piano's and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helping
one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

Rina taught my son oboe lessons for two years. She was the perfect mix of being approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, and serious about teaching oboe. When I was looking for a teacher I was especially concerned that I find someone who would go beyond teaching how to play the notes, and would get deeply into the technique - the real details of articulation and all of the performance points specific to the oboe. My son always ended lessons being motivated to practice and enjoying the experience. He also mentioned that he learned more in a single lesson with Rina than in months with other teachers. I recommend Rina as an oboe teacher without reservation.

About Devin
Hey Folks! My name is Devin! Since I was 21, I haven't worked a day in my LIFE! That's right, want to know how? Because everyday I have the privilege of teaching, recording, and performing MUSIC! Not only that, but I get paid to DO IT! That's not a job, that's a dream come true! If this sounds like something you want to do, I'm the teacher for you!

I began playing guitar at age 7. By the time I was 13 I was a bonafide prodigy! I attended the Fine Arts Center of Greenville, SC where I was awarded several acknowledgments of advancement and achievement. Upon graduating High Shcool, I attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tn to study Guitar Performance with a minor in Music Business. It was at this time I began to teach in my spare time. During my time at Belmont, I not only learned how to hone my craft, but also how to diversi
fy my talents in order to make the most out of my passion. While in Nashville I had the privilege of writing and recording with some amazing talent, I toured and performed, as well as ,taught. After graduating with a B.M. in Guitar, I relocated to Greenville, SC where I began working at a local music store in the Greenville area as the Head of the Guitar Department. Currently I am in the process of opening my own business in May! The business will be a service oriented business with a very minimal inventory of strings, picks, drum sticks, etc... Unlike many businesses that offer music instruction, my job is to teach and prepare my students, not figure out how I'm going to sell the Squier guitar I just took in on commission. The services I'll be providing will include, but are not limited to, private and group lesson packages in voice, piano, guitar, bass, and drums, Rock, Classical, and Jazz Ensemble groups, Fine Arts Center Prep Courses, Music College Entrance Exam and Audition Prep Courses, I'll also have monthly Guitar Maintenance Courses, DIY pedal and amp building clinics, and that's just the beginning! The unveiling of my pièce de résistance, is one you won’t want to miss!

Paul does a great job of balancing the theoretical and applied. He focuses on developing strong fundamentals and good habits but also delves into songs that apply new skills learned along the way at the appropriate pace. As a beginner, Paul has helped me get off to a good start where I'm learning a lot but also having a lot of fun.

A big plus is that he's got a real down-to-earth personality that makes the lessons even more enjoyable and really interesting to talk to about all things drums and otherwise.

I am an award-winning composer and have been passionate about writing music all my life. I write music for movies, games, and concert hall.

Music theory is the "secret code" behind all great pieces of music. Learning music theory makes you a better performer, a better composer and a better audience member.

About Alex
I am an award-winning composer and have been passionate about music all my life. I've been playing in symphonies for over a decade, have been principal violist and a featured soloist, and performed as a session player on movie scores. I've taught violin and viola since 2008 and worked with students ages 4 to adult. I am certified in the Suzuki Method and also teach what is sometimes referred to as "traditional lessons."

You are never too old to begin learning music! I've worked with beginners of all ages.

Learning to play violin or viola is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Especially played fast. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including classical, folk/fiddle, pop, movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the musi
c that YOU want to play!

I also teach composition and music theory (which is beneficial skill set for performers and composers alike).

Please send me a message and let me know your musical goals. I'd love to work with you!

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is a truly gifted teacher. Teachers like her are rare especially when it comes to the arts. Not only does she make lessons fun but she also has the ability to put people at ease. Alex is also great at teaching those with learning differences. I Have extreme learning disabilities along with visual perceptual processing difficulties and thus have many blocks in place when it comes to learning things such as theory. No matter how long it takes me to understand something Alex is ever patient never giving up on me never getting frustrated with me. She has found many ways around many of the blocks that I have with theory. When I first began lessons with Alex I couldn't clap or count rhythm unless I had the main part. Since taking lessons with Alex I am now able to count rhythm better when I am not the main part. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a great teacher!

About Senobia
I am a professional singer from Columbus, Ohio. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Musicology, specializing in Classical Voice Performance.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. My versatility, experience, and formal training help me to make the learning experience easy, stress-free and fun.Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages mostly beginner piano. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the
student.

My personal passion is Jazz music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician! Currently, I sing for two different Big Bands that gig around Winchester, VA. gigging regularly & produce artists for their own projects. I knew Senobia was the right teacher for me within moments of meeting her. She has a lightness of being that just melted away my nervousness about taking lessons.

As an adult beginner I really didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at her ability to be both professional and fun at the same time. She makes sure I'm growing each lesson, but also stays sensitive to whatever unique challenges I may have. I see improvement in myself with each lesson, and have her to thank for the progress I'm starting to be proud of.

I would highly-recommend her to anyone. She is a professional, will make sure lessons are comfortable and fun, and is just all around a great person. I can tell she genuinely cares about my progress and growth, and I look forward to each new lesson.
