I've been teaching acoustic guitar for 7 years (since I was a teen myself!). Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to read and play from basic tabs, and as time goes on we can work on songs you pick yourself. I generally don't teach guitar students to read sheet music unless they ask; this is because in the "real world" of playing musicians, guitarists rarely use actual sheet music except in a classical setting. I specialize in beginner and intermediate acoustic, pop, country and fingerpicking style. Students should have and bring their own guitar. I will work with students ages 6+, but I recommend waiting until close to age 10 for guitar, as it requires some hand size/strength to reach many chord shapes. Ukulele is a fun option for smaller kids 6+ and I teach that too!

About Maya

- I am classically trained in piano and music theory (attended college for both from the age of 15) and have a strong emphasis on music theory and good technique in my lessons, but I also understand the importance of ear training. I practice with and encourage each student in developing relative pit

"Mike has forever changed my life. From the very beginning, he focused on instilling the love of music in me rather than the nitty gritty technical details of playing the guitar. That came later. He opened my world to the many different genres of music. I am now applying to conservatories and still see Mike for my weekly dose of musical inspiration. I would not be the person I am today without Mike. If he can fit you into his schedule, consider yourself blessed."

As my explanation, I always like to break down guitar knowledge in three basic categories. 1. Techni …
