The work horse of the orchestra, the violin is easily recognizable and very popular. Violin lessons include theory, technique, repertoire, and basic posture. We'll work together to design a lesson plan that works for you and your learning style.

About Gail
I studied music from elementary school through high school, taking a break to have a family. After I volunteered to teach Kindergarten and first grade music at a school in Lakeside, I picked up my instruments and began to study again in earnest. Many hours of study, lessons and practice later, I am a better musician than I have ever been, and I've also gained a valuable perspective on teaching that I never could have had by simply being a musician.

I currently play viola with Equinox Quartet, playing Renaissance music up through the Baroque period.

My strengths lie in working with young children, helping them both understand music and love it. My goal for every student is to leave me having a strong understanding of theory, musicianship and desire to seek out more opportunities for growth. I work with each student to tailor a prog
ram specifically for their needs, from working through simple bowing mechanics issues to the psychology of performance. Each student has different challenges to overcome, and simply using a one-size fits all approach is not going to help them.

I pride myself in being flexible and available to to my students for questions, whenever they may need to ask them. I believe that you shouldn't have to wait for the next lesson to have the question answered that may just make the pieces start coming together a bit quicker for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson consists of checking student's progress, addressing any immediate issues and working on skill building.

OK, so those are the basics, but what happens is so much more than that! One student may have trouble hitting a C#, so we'll work on those. Another may have trouble relaxing, we might spend some time on breathing exercises to help with that. Still another might have a death grip on the neck of their instrument, so we'll do some exercises to help relax their hands.

My goal is to help students get well on their way to a lifetime love of learning and making music.

In 3-6 months, they should be:
* Reading music consistently at a level appropriate to their progress.
* Developing an understanding of rhythm and meter.
* Placing their fingers properly, and reliably for the most part.
* Developing correct posture and holding their instrument and bow in a relaxed manner that suits their body type and facilitates the freedom of movement required for great music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
music stand, music

*** Travel Equipment ***
Viola or violin, music stand, music.

*** Specialties ***
Classically trained, but I realize not everyone learns the same way, so a hardcore theory based approach is not always the right choice. We work together to develop a plan that will work and help foster a love of making music.

I specialize in working with kids of all ages. Don't we all have a little kid inside us just itching to get out and play?

My newbie (beginner with zero experience) son has been taking violin lessons via skype for almost 2 years now. I specifically was looking for a teacher who could meet us over the internet, considering I needed a break from the commute. Although I wasn't sure this could work, I gave it a shot...& I am SOOO glad I did! I love the flexibility for our lessons to be in the early morning before school, we could only do this online.

My son LOVES playing his violin! It's funny because he wanted to quit once or twice when he came upon new challenges, etc. Gail works patiently with him as he gains confidence, slowly but surely he has improved dramatically. She has customized his lessons perfectly to fit his needs which is what I was hoping for. Online accompaniment to his songs made it even more fun & we just started a fiddle book (my son's request) which he is enjoying enormously.

My son picks up his violin & plays on his own all the time, WOW! He sounds great, is learning good technique & theory, but most importantly he was given a chance to enjoy the learning process, to me this is priceless. You won't be disappointed with Gail, she is a GREAT teacher! So glad we found her!!!

Side note: In the beginning I was trying to figure out how to tune the violin for my son, & fingering. The snark tuner & the chinatera fingerboard sticker gave me some needed confidence that we could do this online.

Gail is a very good and kind violin teacher and was just perfect for my son's introduction to instrument. He really enjoyed the lessons and learning how to play each of the strings then putting them together in a song. It was a wonderful experience.

I've recently returned to playing violin after a long break, and now taking online lessons with Nikita. He is super helpful, has already showed me a lot of efficient techniques which really speed up my re-gaining process. Nikita is very responsible, always comes up with ideas how to work on my tone, intonation, bowing specific to my needs. He is also a fantastic violinist, which is always the best inspiration for students!

At 60 plus I'm pretty set in my ways. But after 40 some years of not playing a violin I purchased a new one and found Nikita. He has worked with me trying to correct bad habits. Teaching proper handling, finger placement, notes, bow hold and care. Nikita works with children and the ELDERLY and everyone in between. His patience and passion for music is great. I highly recommend this person. He is not only a highly trained and gifted musician with many years of experience but also an excellent teacher. I value his skills and his friendship.

My daughter has been playing the violin for over six years and has had three teachers before Nikita. Nikita is by far the best instructor she has had. The other teachers taught my daughter to play the violin. Nikita is teaching her to perform. He is interested in every aspect of her playing, from playing the correct notes, to correct finger positioning and most especially relaxing and enjoying what she is playing.
My daughter has only taken four lessons from Nikita, but she already sounds better, is more relaxed and can see a difference in herself. She is playing with more confidence than she's ever had.
Nikita is incredibly patient and is excellent with explaining what he wants and expects and is very encouraging. I only wish we had found him sooner!

I've been playing violin since I was ten and have taught beginner/intermediate violin lessons for the last seven years. I love working with students of all ages! In lessons, we will build a strong foundation of violin technique, note name reading, and music theory. Each lesson is tailored to the student and their unique learning style and whatever your style of music is, we'll learn it together! Let's get started!

About Alexis
As a young child I took violin lessons with an incredible teacher who inspired me to pursue music during a time when I wasn't sure what I wanted. His honest approach in lessons and his dedication to ensuring each lesson was a valuable experience encouraged me to keep going. 15 years later and I'm still performing regularly and have now been teaching violin lessons for over 7 years!

I am able to teach beginner through intermediate lessons and have found that my many years of teaching coupled with my teaching internship at Nissa's String Studio has allowed me to make the learning experience fun and easy. I teach my clients in my home teaching studio in Northridge, online, or I can travel to you!

I work with students of all ages and assorted skill levels with a variety of musical goals. I regularly teach classical, contemporary classi
cal, pop and fiddle music. I also have experience teaching group lessons and coaching chamber music.

When not teaching, I gig regularly with my husband who is a cellist. Through performing and teaching, I hope to inspire a lifelong love of music in all of my students and a desire to share that with others.

I'm an avid fan of hers and attend the concerts she puts on for her students in winter and spring. She only teaches violin, but she is very knowledgeable of music in general and helped me practice notes and counting on piano. She also taught me how to correctly hold the bow for a cello, when before I thought a cello was just a larger violin.

She raves about her students' progress to me a lot. I find that enthusiasm is contagious and I know her love for teaching positively influences her students--just this year I could hear the improvement many of them made in the months between their winter and spring concerts.

I am a classically trained musician with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. With a total of 19 years of experience - 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra - I am capable of teaching multiple styles of music to all ages and proficiency levels. Also a multi-instrumentalist, I have the ability to teach other stringed instruments such as the viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele.

About Toni
I am a professional Double Bass player with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, I am able to teach all stringed instruments, such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. With experience coaching and mentoring students who have a passion for songwriting, it has helped them become effective, dynamic, and knowledgeable songwriters.*

I teach strings to students of all different ages and proficiency levels. I am a classically trained musician with 19 years experience, with 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. My competency and versatility as a musician has given me the opportunity to work with children in the public school systems, after school programs, recreational centers, local events, and statewide competitions
and conventions.

Every instrument has a unique timbre, so I teach students what their chosen instrument's role is and what it's specific sound is used for. I believe that "practice makes progress," so I encourage each student to practice consistently and efficiently. By applying foundational techniques during practice and performance, it will aid in their continual growth and progress as a musician.

Depending on the goals and preference of the student - no matter the instrument - I highly encourage each of my students to learn to read music/chord sheets, understand and maneuver their instruments fluidly, and challenge themselves to pursue music in any and every way they can.

I firmly believe that learning technique and theoretical knowledge is essential to learning any instrument and any style. Focused practice sessions and learning how to listen actively instead of passively will shape a well-rounded musician, and as the teacher, achieving this with every student is my goal and my passion.

I very much look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
