About David
Having graduated from Westminster Choir College, I have learned many techniques for helping students to understand their voices better. I have taken voice lessons myself since 2002, and still do take them. This gives me the opportunity to learn new and different techniques. As every student is different, there are many different techniques that can help the student to find their voice.
One style of teaching that I really feel is important when discussing the voice is the idea of just singing. Often times, as was my experience, when people hear voices they like they will mimic that sound. The problem with that is that the person will start singing with a voice that does not work with their body. That is usually my first goal if they have this particular issue. Many times breath and support need to be addressed right away.
After that it is teaching the student technique and helping them through the growing process of their voice. This technique is for the healthiest kind of singing and will preserve the voice for a much longer time then would other styles of singing. That being said, a person can still sing other styles with a slight variation to the technique, but still keeping things healthy and feeling good.

I have added that I am willing to teach individuals who have special needs. I will say that where I teach does have stairs and is not wheelchair accessable. I am sorry about that. I do work at a school for children with developmental disabilities during the day and have been there for almost 4 years now. I have worked with adults as well as children. This has not been in a music setting, but I do have some ideas as to how to make it fulfilling for them as possible. That being said I will be honest with these individuals as well as patient. I believe that they should be treated equally and therefore will get the same level of attention as any of my other students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a fairly laid back teacher, with the philosophy that the student must find their own reason for practicing and work hard. If the student is a young child, I believe that they sing because they love to do it and that love should not be killed by becoming a chore. I would encourage them to practice more in the form of play. This is the work of children after all.
If the student is older, and at an age where they are more serious about the work that comes from learning how to sing properly. Then they should be able to find their inspiration for practicing. I am a firm believer that no one can change someone except for them-self.
The idea of a curriculum would of course differ from student to student, but it also differs with age. With young children, the first goal would be to see how well they match pitch, because it will be difficult to get the student to work on technique if they have trouble matching pitch. Therefore that would be my first goal. After that, I would test the students range and work on teaching them technique.
If the student is in the process of changing their voice, I will work on helping them through this change and help them to find their new voice. This is where the biggest chance of students loosing their real voice and starting to mimic other older singers. The fact is that, they will have a more mature voice in time, but they need to sing in their voice and the more mature sound will come. The main thing will be working on stretching there range little by little. This is because after the male voice changes, they tend to have a very small range. This would be the large overall goal to teach them to use their own voice, stretch their range, and learn technique.
If the student is in their upper teens, then they should have a larger range, but they may still need to find their own voice. The next part will be just teaching the student technique and stretching their range.

David is a fantastic voice teacher. From the first very lesson, he helped me feel comfortable as I started the the sometimes awkward process of finding my voice. When it comes to technique, he has that rare ability to translate complex ideas and mechanics into simple, easy-to-understand concepts that translate into fast improvement. My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years. In 2011 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also been lucky enough to study with some incredible guitarists like Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Jonathan Kreisberg, Jack Pezanelli, and Gilad Hekselman. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, Dave Matthews, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano. From the moment I had my phone interview with Paul, I knew he was the right instructor for my son. We met for a trial lesson and sure enough he was exactly what we were looking for. My 12 yr. old has just excelerated in his music reading skills that I could not teach him on my own having started him on the keyboard myself since he was seven but was not successful. Paul is not afraid to stretch him and communicate to him in a way that he pleasantly receives along with weaving music history teaching continuously throughout the lesson. Right out of the gate his technique was addressed and the foundation was set up front and my son has an obvious, beautiful, step above, touch. Very grateful!

Michael C. was eleven years old when he began to play the electric bass guitar. He decided to get an electric bass because it was the one instrument needed to start a band among his friends. In addition to playing the electric bass, Michael enjoyed time practicing on the guitar and piano in high school. Transferring the knowledge and finger technique to the guitar came easy because of the similarities between guitar and the bass. I am extremely passionate about both music and education, and it gives me great joy to be able to share excitement for and knowledge of music with my students. I have been studying violin since I was 4 years old and it has always been a central part of my life. I have a strong background in both music and education. I am conservatory trained having received a BFA in Violin Performance from Carnegie Mellon University with an additional major in Physics. I am comfortable teaching all levels from total beginners to advanced students playing Paganinni and major concertos. For beginning students I start with Suzuki books until about book 5 and then begin to branch out into other repertoire. I also incorporate etudes by Dancla, Wohlfahrt, and Sevcik. I teach students to read music as well as basic theory and ear training. I also incorporate playing by ear and improvisation. These are important skills which help students develop into flexible and well rounded musicians.

I am happy to teach any piece in any style that the student wants to learn. Students do much better work and can learn much more when they are excited about the music they are playing. In addition, I can also help students prepare for auditions, competitions, or or to prepare orchestra music.

Noah has been teaching my 11 year old boys for almost two years. I initially chose him due to his proximity to my house. We have since moved, but we continue to travel 1.5 hrs round-trip to Princeton because of his patient and kind demeanor.

He also motivates his students by recognizing and praising their hard work and accomplishments no matter how big or small. I have seen my kids' skills improve drastically under his tutelage.

When Noah teaches, it is very obvious that he loves the violin and that he is eager to impart his love and knowledge of the violin to his students. He's an extremely gifted violinist and teacher.

I am continuing to study cello with Jamie and I am much further along than I anticipated. I also study piano, so I am not a traditional beginner cello student. Jaime is able to fine tune my lessons to take this into account and build on it. He is very knowledgeable about proper technique as well as music theory. I would recommend him without reservation for all abilities and ages.

Theory is the building block of music and learning it will help you to have a better understanding of your instrument, as well as become a better performer. I have a Bachelor of Music from McGill University and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I received extensive training in music theory and analysis. I will use workbooks as well as repertoire to explain concepts such as chord progressions, harmony and key signatures. I will also teach ear training and music dictation for those students interested in pursuing music at the college level

Whether you are a beginning musician or you are looking to hone your craft, I believe that I can help you achieve your goals and have fun while doing it. I have a BMus in Classical Voice Performance from McGill University and a MMus in Voice Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. My main focus is classical or musical theater singing but I believe that good technique is the foundation for all healthy singing. I also teach music theory, ear training and beginner piano.

Siobhan really knows her stuff! She is great at explaining things in a calm and clear manner and her warm and friendly attitude really put me at ease. I used to be so nervous to sing in public, but she helped me gain the confidence to overcome my fears.
