About Alisa
I began violin playing jazz/folk music with my dad and performing at different venues with him. I was always attracted to the variety of scales and sounds eastern music had to offer. I love the sound of a gypsy violin, how it can create such a strong sorrowful sound or how it can dance and sing.

I found the gypsy inspired pieces composed by classical composers like Monti's Csaras. This was my connection into classical music. I found a teacher who played classical and Arabic violin and began studying intensely for technique. As I got deeper into the study of classical I realized how much I love classical music.

I now have been playing classically for 6 years and have been playing the violin 12 years I have studied with Hannah Khoury, Daniel Han of the Philadelphia Orchestra and am currently with Vladimir Dyo who is a full time facu
lty member at Temple University.

I began attending Temple Universities Boyer College of Music in 2011. I have performed in Kimmel Center and Alice Tully Hall with our orchestra since than. I continue to play various performances with my background in improvisation but right now I focus full-time on being a student.

I love to teach. I have taught students from ages 8-42 and am open to teach anyone above 7 and above. We will start with the Suzuki method to get the basics of violin and will progress to play pieces of music varying to your tastes and level. If you want to play Irish fiddle, we can have you playing jigs and reels in just a few months. If your interested in jazz we can have you playing standards or if you want to a play classical we can work towards you being able to sight read and perform pieces within 6 months.

Of course if you already play we can pick up where you left off. I strongly believe no matter what interest you have in violin, it is important to study classically to get the proper technique. All styles I teach will be supplemented with classical etudes and exercises.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to own a violin and be willing to purchase necessary equipment. (music, metronome, tuner, shoulder rest, etc... varies on student)

*** Specialties ***
Classical
Jazz
Gypsy Folk

I am a laid back person but I try to make lessons strict because it is better for the students. I am specialized in violin techniques. I will teach you difficult techniques in a very easy and fun way. I believe that every student is different. Therefore, I will not teach every student the same way. Technique and theory, ear training, various styles, personal interests of the student

About Matthew
I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.

I wish to help others make music an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.

Great teacher. Goes at your pace and is very patient even if he has to explain things multiple times. Makes sure you understand what you're doing and not just blindly following. Praises you when you do well and encourages you when you struggle. Looking forward to learning more from him.

I can help beginning students on violln learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Such a wonderful and challenging instrument. I still take a few lessons with a master's degree performance artist so I keep on top. There are different size violins for different sizes of people. Hope you give it a try

About Mary
Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.

My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.

As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....

Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

The grea
test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.

Member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs),

I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

*** Specialties ***
Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.

I began playing the violin at the age of 5 and have participated in the Strings International Music Festival as well as the Eastern U.S. Music Camp. Through high school I was a member of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra and took part in district and regional festivals. I have also recorded non-classically on albums with music groups such as Port Arthur, Chet Williams, and Benjamin Poole.

About Elisabeth
Hi! I'm a recent graduate of Temple University's Boyer College of Music, where I earned a degree in Music Theory. Violin and tuba are my primary instruments. I have taught high school marching bands for the past three years and am currently Hornline Director of Ridley High School's marching band. I have been studying violin for over 15 years and will shortly begin graduate studies in music performance. In May 2016, I graduated from Duke University with degrees in global health, sociology, and ethics (I also earned distinction in music). I was a two-time winner of the Duke Symphony concerto competition, and I also served as the orchestra's concertmaster and president. Furthermore, I have been an official course instructor, a teaching assistant, and a writing tutor during college.

About Jenny
With a strong passion for music performance, I have been diligently studying the violin for over 15 years and have won multiple competitions and awards. I am excited to begin my graduate studies in violin performance this August at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance, as the recipient of a generous Dean's Performance Grant. In the meantime, I will be attending several intensive summer festivals, including the Luby Violin Symposium, the National Orchestral Institute, and the Emerging Artist Fellowship Program at Garth Newel.

I completed my undergraduate work at Duke University in May 2016, earning degrees in global health, sociology, and ethics. Although I did not major in music at Duke, I was fortunate to have been quite involved in the music department. I studied violin with Mr. Eric Pritchard of the Ciompi Quartet fo
r four years, and I was a two-time winner of the Duke Symphony concerto competition. I also served as concertmaster and president of the Duke Symphony Orchestra, directed by Professor Harry Davidson. Upon graduating from Duke, I was awarded the Julia Wilkinson Mueller Prize for Excellence in Music, a Benenson Award in the Arts, and graduation with distinction in music. Last year, as a graduating college senior, I was honored to perform a solo for Duke University's board of trustees, including president Richard Brodhead and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Other than music, I am also extremely passionate about global health, social justice, filmmaking, writing, and education.

I minored in music at Rowan University and studied violin under Michael Ludwig who then was the Associate Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra. First and foremost, I hope for my students to enjoy the violin. I try to build a love for music in my students by making lessons fun, rather than something they dread going to.

Music is my passion and I love sharing it with others! I have been teaching private music lessons for 8 years. I have a bachelor's degree in Violin Performance with minors in Music History and Piano Pedagogy. Students of all ages and backgrounds have studied with me. I try to personalize my teaching style to incorporate the musical interests of my students so that learning always stays fun and productive!

About Bronwyn
I'm an avid violinist and pianist. I graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in May 2017 with a degree in Violin Performance and minors in Music History and Piano Pedagogy.

I love sharing my music with others and believe teaching is one of the best ways of doing that. My lessons are built around the unique interests of each student so that they feel positive about what they're learning and their progress.

I believe that much time is wasted by practicing inefficiently so I spend time each lesson discussing not only how to fix the problems students encounter, but how to practice more effectively. I like to challenge each student to approach music as an artist approaches a painting. Skill and technique are as equally important as telling (or painting) a story with each new song!
