Cello Lessons in Elm. Amazing Teachers.

Experienced performer and orchestra member who has a passion for teaching beginner/intermediate cello students! I focus a lot on technique, which is essential in the beginning stages of playing, as well as the mind and body. I want to provide a positive learning experience while helping my students reach their full musical potential!

Student needs to have the instrument. I usually use Essential Elements and Suzuki books for beginner and intermediate students. Also String Tunes.

1 hour lesson with music theory, performance tips, and of course playing music!
I have been teaching for 6 years. In 2013 I received my Bachelors Degree in music from Bluefield College. I have played for the Rappahannock Youth Symphony and the Bluefield College Orchestra and I have in duets and trios with members of the Roanoke Symphony. I enjoy playing music, because music echoes the soul. Everyone may speak a different language, but all musicians speak the same language of notes and rhythm.

I teach a variety of styles from Classical to Pop.

First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!

I am a professional cellist with years of performing and teaching.
I attended the Jacobs School of Music for my undergraduate and masters' degrees and was a graduate teaching assistant. I also received my Stott Pilates Teaching Certification while at IU and incorporate postural alignment into my teaching. I have Suzuki certification and work on a strong technical foundation, which both facilitates performing and frees us up to explore non-traditional techniques and other genres.

Most importantly, I strive to nurture the love and passion for music and cello and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.
