Mr. Anderson has been a great influence on my life. As a cello teacher, Mr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the making of the cello to the history of composers to just random facts. Mr. Anderson has been my teacher from the 6th grade to my senior year. During those 6 years, he helped me grow into a great cello player that as a senior, I was able to play a solo with my school orchestra as a senior capstone. He, also, understood, that during this time, not only is his job to teach me cello but also to help and guide me into a better person. I have had many great and amazing teachers in high school and college and Mr. Anderson is among the best. I will never forget those 6 years and will fondly look back at these formative years.

Dwight Anderson was a fabulous cello teacher for my son from preschool through high school. He was, in fact, the best music teacher we ever had for either of my children - through all of their piano, violin and cello instruction. He was consistent and nurturing, able to push the boundaries of expectation, and able to inspire. Although he only taught my son, he influenced my daughter as well by encouraging them to both participate in the GDYO. He was masterful in choosing certain pieces of work that inspired my son to practice and to perform. Even though he certainly assigned scales and etudes, he always allowed him at least one piece of his choosing that gave him such a sense of accomplishment. For example, my son learned to play the prelude of the Bach suite in G even before he started the 1st grade. That is still his favorite piece! And, starting around 7th or 8th grade, he let his pick which "big work" they would tackle for the following year. We went through the Lalo cello concerto, Faure's Elegie, the Saint-Saens concerto, Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Dvorak's Rondo, and finally, "The Dvorak", for his senior project in high school. Even though my son didn't always learn all the movements of the concerto or learn it to perfection, Dwight's partnership with my son in picking these pieces gave him such a love of playing the cello! What a wonder and a gift!
In the years since high school, Dwight has kept up with my son, even though he chose a non-music career path and a life in the north east. We will be forever grateful for Dwight and the influence he has had on my son in particular, and, for his influence on the whole family for deepening our appreciation of beautiful music. Thank you, Dwight!

Mr. Anderson was very patient with my son who was just starting on the cello. He made sure that my son had a strong foundation before learning harder pieces, and always came to the lessons with a bright smile.

I met Jeffrey after one of his performances at Loyola University and hired him to give my son lessons. He is really passionate with his teaching and seems quite knowledgable on the subject of classical cello. Would definitely recommend him to any individuals or parents looking to hire a cello teacher out there.

Aloha! I'm Mr. B, a former public school orchestra teacher turned mailman. In 2018 my family had the wonderful opportunity to relocate to the island of Maui where I took a position as a letter carrier with USPS. Now that I'm settled, I'm excited to get back to teaching cello. I have 4 years of public school instruction teaching 5th-12th grade orchestra and 7 years of private instruction on cello. I have played cello for the University of Evansville, the University of Findlay, the University of Southern Indiana, Heidelberg University, The Firelands Symphony, The Bowling Green Symphony, and the Croswell Opera House. I have a relaxed, realistic teaching style that is student-centered and rooted in Suzuki's Every Child Can philosophy. Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students.

Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

I have taught privately for over 10 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

About Wei

Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a chef (almost--12 weeks to go), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places. Studying with m

As a cellist with 18 years of playing experience and 5+ years of teaching I have learned that music can change your life at any age and even can help you heal from whatever struggles life throws at you. Music and learning an instrument can improve your brain functions in a way that no other activity can accomplish. I am so passionate about teaching and customize my teaching style to each student individually because the same approach does not work for everyone. I strongly believe in that and try to get to know my students, who they are, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help to overcome those. I get very involved with my students and build a personal relationship with each one of them to further help them with cello. I've had some wonderful instructors myself including Amir Eldan and Hans Jensen who taught me not only how to play the instrument itself but also how to use those skills that come with being a musician in life.

"Jessica is wonderful! I began studying the cello as a quite older student - in my 50s - and have had a few teachers over these last 15 years. When teaching an adult student, the teacher has to understand that our lives, schedules and demands are quite different that those of a young person. Jessica's patience, persistence and genuine good humor in the face of my busy life is beyond admirable. Even though I am quite challenged in finding practice time, she "puts up" with me and my showing up to lessons with minimal preparation. I've accepted that I'm never going to be the great cellist of my dreams, but Jessica is facilitating my learning to enjoy playing this wonderful instrument that I've had a deep love affair with for many years. I can't thank her enough."

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
