I teach Music Knowledge, because it works in any and every musical situation. A "theory'" is just a hypothesis, Music Knowledge works with everyone and works every time- they're is no guessing...improvisation is a whole nutter' animal, though!

I believe Music Theory is very fundamental in music learning as it holds a strong basis to teach to read and understand music more fluently. Scales, modes, key signatures, time signatures, borrowed chords, modulation, secondary dominant, jazz improvisation, counterpoint, etc... I can teach beginner to advanced to AP Level Prep and College prep.

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

I offer private music theory tutoring to students of all levels, with a special focus on middle and high school students applying to music programs, preparing for Music Theory AP exams, or those who are preparing to pursue music more seriously.

Lessons are tailored to the student's needs while building on skills as we develop them. Students can expect to cover key signature identification, chord progressions, basic history, and more fundamental skills.

I recommend adults take from 45 minutes to 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons.
