Laura has been a great teacher for my 6 year-old daughter (starting taking lessons when she was 5). She is endlessly patient and has a perfect balance of fun and instruction in all her lessons. She helped us every step of the way--picking out the right rental instrument, finding extra workbooks that would be fun, coming up with ways to make practicing at home enticing. Laura is made to be a fiddle teacher--she has a obvious passion both for the music and sharing it with her students. My daughter left every lesson with Laura beaming with pride. I'd recommend anyone searching for a teacher to go with Laura!

Hello! I've been teaching violin and piano for 10+ years to students of all ages. I love helping beginners learn about the fun world of music, and helping intermediate/advanced students hone their skills.
I have a minor in music from Brigham Young University and have played in many different orchestras. I love to have students try music from different styles, and also teach basic music theory and ear training skills.
I offer in person or video lessons, whichever you prefer.

I also teach piano for beginners/intermediate level. The way I teach, a student can be playing songs very quickly, even while working on basic skills and learning how to read music. I love opening up the world of the keyboard and how to match it to what you see on the music!

Great experience

She did a wonderful job teaching Tara. Tara's viola technique really improved this year thanks to Dorothy's patience and hard work. Dorothy never missed a lesson and always came prepared for the next challenge. I must admit that I was hesitant to find a teacher using an on-line service but, Ihave been extremely pleased with our instructor and will miss Dorothy's guidance in our viola lessons.

Feedback for Dorothy

Dorothy has fabulous teacher. She is easy to learn from and doesnt get anoyed when you dont get things on the first try. This is great because as an adult I dont learn as quickly. Also, I am a college student (age 20) and she works with my school and work schedules. I really cant say how pleased I am with the quality of her teaching.

Thank you for what you have done for Mechelle so far. She enjoys coming to lessons and feels very comfortable working with you. And it's nice to know that she's getting the attention and help that she needs to be successful in learning the viola.

"Great pleasure working with Kelvin

Kelvin is not only an amazing, kind-hearted, smart and trustworthy person but he is also one of the best musicians I have seen around the Chicago area. I have been in the music business for most of my life having taken many violin and piano lessons from different people and Kelvin has to be the most patient musician I have collaborated with yet. I recommend Kelvin to anyone looking to learn to play music - young - and - old. He is extremely passionate about music and continuously never fails to inspire me."

"Lauren is an excellent teacher for adult students!

At the age of 54 I decided to purchase a violin and learn to play. I found Lauren Cauley through Takelessons.com and could not be more pleased with her!! She has taught me so much in my first four weeks. She's patient with me and encourages me when I get discouraged with my play. She is quick to answer the numerous questions I have. She is an extremely talented musician with a talent for teaching. She pushes me in my weekly assignments and ensures I've mastered one level before we move to the next. Thanks Lauren!!"

"I had never played a string instrument when I began lessons with Evan almost 9 years ago. Since I came to learn the violin late in life, have limited time and energy to devote to practice, Evan has patiently taught me how to maximize my practice time such that step by step, steady progress in my playing has been made! Evan is attentive to both technique and musicality, and continually challenges me to stretch in both aspects in an encouraging manner. I am glad Evan was my first violin teacher, and remains so!"
