Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. I teach beginning and intermediate violin students. I studied violin at the Community Music Center in Portland, OR. My degree is BM in cello performance from Portland State University 1993, and I have studied (and/or had master classes) with Stephanie McDougal, Hamilton Cheifetz, Yo

Corey has been an amazing teacher for both of my sons! His talent with the instruments, his ability to share facts and make it interesting, and his intuition about what is effective for teaching young kids make the experience really wonderful for our whole family. He has been flexible in scheduling lessons. He is kind and patient with the boys. They look forward to their lessons every week and that is a great victory even if daily practice is challenging. Both boys have shown great improvement in their skills!

Corey is the single biggest reason I stuck with music and was eventually accepted to several notable music conservatories including the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and Oberlin Conservatory. I began studying with Corey at the age of 9, and he made the entire learning process exciting and engaging. His enthusiasm for music is contagious for students at all levels, and his expertise in guiding his pupils through the extremely complex process of learning a stringed instrument is unparalleled. Corey brings decades of pedagogical and professional experience to each lesson, and is always eager to impart this wisdom on his students. I cannot recommend Corey enough, for students at any level he is the best teacher you will be able to find!
Jenny
Our daughter studied violin with Corey for six years. She loved learning from him. I think Corey has a wonderful ability to nurture the love of making music. His teaching style is kind and patient. And he makes it fun. I would highly recommend him!

I was lucky to take lessons with Marisa for two years during my undergraduate music degree at CU Boulder. Not only is Marisa a wonderful and knowledgeable violinist, she is a intuitive and warm teacher. Marisa took my musicality to the next level and helped me develop proper, tension-free technique. Marisa's advice helped me to practice more effectively on my own, and I always felt inspired after our lessons. I would highly recommend Marisa as a teacher for violinists of any level!
Kylie
Dr Marisa has been teaching me for three years now. She is very good at explaining the pieces, and giving a short history lesson about how it was developed. This helps me learn and memorize the piece faster for recitals and performances. Despite the setbacks of COVID-19, she has still continued being an excellent teacher for me.
Kendalia
Throughout my entire music experience, Marisa is one of the best violin teachers I've ever had. She taught me how to listen and improve the sound I was producing, correct my bow hold, overcome my performance anxiety, and much more. I would highly recommend Marisa, no matter what your experience is with the violin.

Wonderful!

Samantha D. is wonderful. My kids play so well for only 1 year'sworth of lessons. I would highly recommend her to anyone! I am blownaway by the music that comes out of the Piano from a 7 and 11 year old.My 11 year old signed up for her first music competition at school. Ifyou told me one year ago I would have girls playing a piano, I would notbelieve you. I truly thought they would quit after a couple of months. Not the case. They are musically talented and still love it. Thanks toSamantha D! They are now thriving in the in-school music program.Thank you, TakeLessons, for filtering out the best teachers. When achild has a small window of interest, you have to grab it the rightway...the wrong teacher would not have given me these results.

My granddaughter, Katelynn, enjoys her trumpet lessons with Samantha. Samantha is caring, seems to enjoy teaching & has patience; which is needed since Katelynn needs a little extra attention learning things

Highly Recommend her!

My daughters (10, & 6) have only had three lessons with Samantha! They love it. Her nature is kind and welcoming. She can tell how much they can handle so doesn't overwhelm them with too much theory or pieces to play. She strikes a nice balance. My 10 year old started composing her own song when she became bord with the beginner book! Samantha has added to this excitement and changed her teaching style to match my daughters learning style. My daughter was beaming! Samantha has taught her how to take the next pieces of theory and add it to her song. She also ordered music my daughter enjoys like Selena Gomez. My 6 year old is excited every week and doesn't want to be late. My husband and I thought this would be just another thing to start and quit. So far they are going strong!

"With respect to my son learning violin at a very young age (4), her experience with children as I was able to see is very impressive. Her ability to keep my son alert and interested during the entire session of the private class shows her extensive experience with Violin and understanding of how children behave with respect to musical positioning while learning music for the first time. She teaches with detail while being able to put herself in my child's shoes knowing what my child needs to stay alert. My son is very happy to learn from her and seems to remain up to date. I will definitely continue bringing my son to see and learn from her."
