Terrible. Only taught 30 minutes out of 60 minute sessions. On the 3 session I mentioned it and he said he didn’t think my son needed more than that even though we paid for it. Was so disrespectful!!!! Never again!!! Highly unprofessional when asked about why he cut the lessons short. Please don’t leave your kids with this instructor work paying attention. He will get over on you if he thinks you’re not involved.

Alethia is great. She is working with my 7 yr. old daughter as a beginner in violin. She teaches in a way that is fun, appropriate, and respectful. My daughter has already learned so much and looks forward to her lessons with Alethia each week.

Alethia is very knowledgeable about technique and skilled at teaching.

Alethia is a very talented teacher and violinist. She is extremely professional, attentive and accommodating to her students needs/goals. As an older student with no musical background, she has made the violin less intimidating and more accessible by breaking it down and making it less complex and easier to understand. While, I've only been with her a few years, I'm very proud of the progress I've made with her. If you are interested in taking up the violin, I highly recommend her.

"Great Teacher with a low pressure style

I've been taking violin lessons from Marc for several weeks and he is a great teacher. He has a low pressure teaching style that I really like because I get nervous when I play in front of other people. He seems very knowledgeable in both the technical aspects of the violin as well as the music theory. He is quick to return emails and is always happy to answer my questions. I've taken other instrument lessons in the past and Marc is by far the best teacher I've had. I'm really enjoying my lessons with Marc and I hope to continue for a long time to come."

""I look forward to lessons every week. In these 10 months, I have gained confidence in my ability to learn the violin. I am a beginner (hobbyist) and I feel I learned more in the first four months as Dr. Olevsky's student than I would have learned in a year with any other teacher. Dimitry's teaching style is very concise and technical. From the very first lesson to present, he strongly focuses on form, technique and efficiency in learning, which is ultimately making all the difference in my progress. In hand with technique, Dimitry is exceptional at using theory, analogies and stories to help work through each step of the learning process. He is also very insightful and willing to share stories, history, and/or any information related to his experiences as a musician...which I enjoy hearing. I find Dimitry to not only be a fantastic teacher, but a patient, kind, and funny person who is passionate about what he does and what I am there to learn. He has high standards and exp ects exceptional effort from me as a student..which is a lot of hard work. In return; however, I have unlimited access to his wealth of knowledge and experience...and sometimes I get to just listen to him play the pieces I am learning which is worth all of the effort in and of itself. So beautiful""

I am a student who has loved this string instrument for many years and am fortunate to now have Farobag Homi Cooper as my teacher. "Hallie's teaching style a great combination of challenging and encouraging. As an older adult student with very limited musical experience I find that she strikes just the right balance for my hyper-analytical personality.
I am pleasantly surprised with the progress I have made and look forward to my weekly lessons."

"I met Pyunghwa in Germany when I was 14 and took lessons with her for 2 years. I was having trouble finding a good teacher before then and was quite lucky to find her. She is a kind-hearted, caring, patient, and motivating teacher, not to mention her impressive performing career. As her student, she taught me to look at my music through the lens of a musician, pushed me to connect notes with expression, and imparted useful techniques with which to approach challenging pieces. She always knew exactly what I needed to work on in lessons and how to guide me through it in a way that I would be able to tackle the pieces on my own later on. She would first demonstrate with her violin, then have me practice with her until I was confident. With an expert’s ear and great attention to detail, she picked up the finer details that I might have breezed over. I used the techniques she taught me even when I’d moved, and she was no longer my teacher. Our lesson time was always maximized, and Pyunghwa was energetic and encouraging throughout it.

Pyunghwa cared for me as a music student in her instruction and also sought after opportunities that would help me expand my skills as a violinist. With no school orchestra to join, she found opportunities for me to perform with the local youth orchestra that gave me the experience I later built on to lead my school orchestra as a concertmaster.

With her knowledge and experience, Pyunghwa is a wonderful teacher for both the beginner and the advanced student. She is firm but gentle and patient, able to connect the new student to a challenging instrument in an exciting and approachable manner. As for the advanced student, working with a teacher with such vast experience and natural skill is a blessing."

What is Rosin, and How Do I Use It?

For beginner violinists, that mysterious lump of tree sap in your instrument case might seem a little strange.  But that sticky substance - rosin - is actually essential to creating a beautiful, even tone. Particularly if you've just purchased a new violin bow, it's important to learn how to apply rosin properly before you begin playing your violin.  The rosin makes the hairs on the bow "sticky," allowing them to grip the string and produce a good tone. First, when applying the rosin, ma …
