Cello Lessons in Molalla. Amazing Teachers.

Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching cello for 31 years. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. I teach beginning through advanced students. My degree is BM in cello performance from Portland State University 1993, and I have studied (and/or had master classes) with Stephanie McDougal, Hamilton Cheifetz, Yo Yo Ma, Hans Jurgen Jensen, and Carter Brey. I attended Tanglewood Institute in 1987, and Congress of Strings in 1988 both on a full scholarship. I have more than 18 years of experience teaching, all ages. I teach beginners and Advanced students. I work with different books, depends on the level of the student, Essentials, Suzuky, Dotzauer, Klengel scales, Duport, Popper, Piatti, Sonatas, Concertos like Vivaldi, Saint Saenz, Bocherini, Haydn C and D, Dvorak, Lalo, and much more, i also prepare the kids for Recitals, All State and Competitions.

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. I am a professional performing artist and educator who believes that everyone is inherently musical. I have extensive experience with students of all ages and abilities and enjoy cultivating the interests in those whom I teach.

I have been teaching cello for 6 years and have recently earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. I have experience with both young and adult students alike and can confidently tailor my teaching to the needs of my students. Keeping the instrument and music an important part of the student's life is important to me and I always try and look for ways to keep them engaged with music personally, as well.

The student will be instructed on the basics of proper playing techniques, music theory, and musicianship. They will learn to read music and also play by ear which will make them a well rounded player.
