About Azuri
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.

Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
udent.

Teaching Philosophy -

My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment.
Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.

I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.

I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.

I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.

HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.

I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.

I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.

I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.

-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.

-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.

-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed

-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.

Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

In my opinion, the way music theory is commonly taught makes the subject miserable and difficult. Over many years I've developed a method of breaking it down into user friendly and bite size pieces, that can begin to be applied right away. I truly enjoyed my first lesson with Indigo. She's a wonderful instructor. She explains very clearly with a calm and precise approach. I truly feel she can teach me how to be a better guitarist in a structured, positive and comfortable way. She immediately put me at ease without judgement and without the dreaded "mansplaining" that I often got from male instructors in the past. I'm definitely coming back for more lessons.

Indigo is an amazing teacher. While she is a professional musician with a deep understanding of music theory, I am an intermediate guitar player and don’t spend much time on theory - i mostly want to work on playing songs and singing, and she jumps right into what i am working on with enthusiasm and an open mind. She is good at explaining things and she is also always smiling and super nice. Can’t say enough good things.

My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. 13 years ago, I picked up a guitar and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am a worship leader for Fellowship of The Parks, an on-staff music-producer and session musician at Drive35 Productions, and a passionate instructor.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for multiple independent rock bands, the most notable being an indie psychedelic band called Tod The Fox. I have led worship for many churches including Grace Fellowship UMC, Brazos Pointe Church, The Cornerstone College Ministry at UTA, FUMC Allen, Living Life Church, and Fellowship of the Parks in varying capacities. At UTA, I studied Jazz and Classical guitar under acclaimed guitarists Sam Walker and Billy Robertson. Here,
I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, and music-production extensively. I graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor of Music-Media from UTA. After school, I spent 9 months interning/assistant engineering with acclaimed musician/composer/producer Brad Nyght at The Bakery Studio in Dallas- whose credits include being the drummer for The Michael Gungor Band and Desperation Band. Then, got hired as an on-staff session musician and music producer at Drive35 Productions. I have also played guitar, mandolin, and bass for multiple pit orchestras and guitar for the North Lake Jazz Ensemble with director Jim Eger.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests. Whether that is classical guitar method, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

I have an excellent internet connection and microphone set up for online lessons. I also utilize screen-sharing to make the lessons as close to real life as possible.

A few of my favorite artists include: Michael Gungor, Joe Pass, Andrew Bird, Chopin, Led Zeppelin, Glen Hansard, and Radiohead.

Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical guitar, bass, ukulele, or piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning awesome songs!

Jordan is awesome! My son is 6 and he is very patient with him and doesn’t make the lesson overwhelming which is something I was worried about. Jordan is very pleasant and talented. He is also great at communicating and responds quickly if you have a question later in the week. Would highly recommend him to anyone and any age interested in learning an instrument. My son is still excited to be learning to play the guitar which I’m always surprised because to get better it takes practice and dedication. Thanks Jordan for making it fun too!

I am a classically trained bassoonist with a passion for all types of music. I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in bassoon performance from the Ohio State University, and my Masters of Music in bassoon performance from Arizona State University.

In addition to holding faculty positions at Grand Canyon University and Paradise Valley Community College, I teach a large studio of both online and in-person bassoon students. I also perform with symphonies and classical chamber music groups all over the country. Outside of the classical world, I am a founding member of the band Dry River Yacht Club, which has gone on tours, played music festivals, and recorded 3 studio albums.

My name is Victor and I have been actively teaching cello for the past 4 years. In Ames, IA I had a studio of 8 students, all ranging from different age groups and abilities. I also have experience teaching online lessons, which require a slightly different approach than normal in person lessons. I recently moved to Boston to pursue my masters degree in cello performance at The Boston Conservatory. I am looking forward to building a studio here in Boston! My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your musical goals. I try my absolute hardest to create a warm and positive environment for all of my students. BIO:
Born in Minneapolis, MN, Victor Mooney began playing cello at the age of 7. While in Minneapolis he studied with Tom Austin, former member of the Minnesota Opera. Victor completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Iowa State University, where he studied with George Work. Upon graduation he was awarded the Outstanding Senior in Music award, the highest honor the Music Department at Iowa State gives. While in undergrad he also received a scholarship for excellence in performance. In the fall of 2015, Victor pursued a Master's of Music degree in Cello Performance at The Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Andrew Mark. He has participated in master classes with Anthony Ross, Tanya Remenikova, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Hong Wang, Bruce Uchimura, Wes Baldwin, Theodore Buckholz, and Joshua Koestenbaum. From 2013 to 2015 he played regularly with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. While at Iowa State University he had the opportunity to sit Principle Cello in both the Iowa State University Symphony Orchestra and the Iowa State University Chamber Orchestra. Along with teaching privately in his Boston Studio, Victor also teaches for the Brookline Adult and Community Education Center. Outside of music, Victor enjoys reading, cooking, watching hockey and soccer, and visiting with family and friends in Minnesota.

As a 40 year old beginner I was a little nervous about the whole online experience as well as starting a new instrument. Victor makes the online teaching experience seamless. Victor is calm, thoughtful and patient. He always finds a way to explain something in a way that relates to me specifically. To do this someone must be able to listen as well as teach. This is quality I have not found in all of my teachers/instructors/coaches throught the years. Victor is also easily the most flexible of any teacher I have had. He always finds a way to accommodate my schedule and works around any issues that arise. I have really enjoyed my learning experience thus far and look forward to each lesson. I would not hesitate to recommend Victor to anyone looking to learn the cello.

I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best.

In music, a chord is a group of notes that ring together in harmony. One of the first things that beginning guitarists learn is how to finger a basic chord shape and strum across a group of strings. Chords are usually at the base of every song and help to establish the tonality of a piece of music.

Because melody is such a prominent aspect in so much music, its construction and other qualities are a primary interest of music theory. The basic elements of melody are pitch, duration, rhythm, and tempo. The tones of a melody are usually drawn from pitch systems such as scales or modes.

With the knowledge of music theory, you will learn how to put together your own chords, notes, modes and scales, pentatonic, intervals, arpeggios, harmonization of scales and chord substitution concepts.

I started learning how to play the guitar around 15 years old. I have over 36 years experience. I took lessons for three years of reading, writing tab and notations, chord charts, melodies, classical guitar, soloing, taping, techniques, song learning, ear training and transposing. From the songs, I've learned to play the rhythm and solo. Over the years, I self taught myself guitar by listening to my favorite artist. I played in local bands for many years and performed in venue's in my home town. When I play in bands, I'm always labeled the lead guitar player of the group. I would help everyone out with their parts and timing. I have recording experience in the studio as much as my home studio using Steinburg's Cubase. I took a music theory course and received a certificate.

My time with Rich was really strong. I took lessons from Rich for a short while when living in Connecticut. The time I spent with him was VERY helpful to me as a novice guitar player. Rich has an unbelievable knowledge of the instrument and is quite an accomplished player. He is a really strong instructor and genuinely wants his students to get better.

In short, Rich is a very talented instructor/player and I would definitely take lessons from him again.

Hello!

I am currently earning a masters degree in viola performance at The Hartt School, with separate emphases in music theory, conducting, and strings pedagogy.

In the past year, I was a teaching artist at the Incredible Children's Art Network in Santa Barbara, where I was exposed to many teaching methods and techniques, among them the El Sistema method of strings pedagogy. I was also a musical mentor at Santa Barbara Strings, where I led string sectionals, and coached chamber music groups.

Teaching is a great opportunity to get to know a young artist. My primary goal as a teacher has always been to help my students discover their own musical voices. My daughter began her first year of violin lessons with Jake at her school when she was in 4th grade . She enjoyed taking lessons with him and remembers discussions they had about the history of the violin. She said he was a good teacher - patient and explained things well. She received a good fundamental background in the violin and that has carried over to her continuing into her second year of lessons.

Fantastic teacher! I worked with Jake at the Incredible Children's Art Network (formerly of Santa Barbara, CA) and had watched Jake build positive healthy relationships with each of our students. He focused on establishing a safe learning environment and individualizing lessons for students with various needs.

His easy going temperament, open mind, and professional mindset made him easy to work with as a colleague.

Miss Bonner is a very patient and fun teacher, whose methods have boosted me from a beginner to playing college standard pieces by Mozart. She is great at playing clarinet. Classical, Jazzy; any genre you choose and Miss Bonner can teach you well. At the end of the school year, I won an award for being the best member in our school band. I could never have done it without Miss Bonner.

Ms. Bonner has been such an inspirational teacher over all the years she has taught me. She has helped me improve my clarinet techniques by pushing me to join various bands and best of all, introduced me to Jazz. Also, she is a really fun teacher, always making her lessons fun and entertaining. Without her, I wouldn't have the enthusiasm I have now for music.
