About Ed
I have been playing guitar, singing, writing songs and making music for 30+ years. I am still learning! I have played in dozens of bands in a variety of styles all over the world. I bring a lot of real world experience to the table and can help you prepare to bring your voice and your music to the world. I am fluent in rock, folk, blues, electric or acoustic, country, etc. and am comfortable working with people of all ages, ideas, backgrounds, cultures, etc.

No matter if you are brand new to the instrument or have been playing for some time, I am sure I can help point you in the direction that you want to go so you can make the music you want to hear coming from your fingers!

*** Lesson Details ***
Typically, I try to understand what a student wants and then tailor a specific plan for them. Often this incorporates learning so
ngs as not only an example of how to play, but as well to understand the "why" of the guitar and how it sounds. It's important, I think, that a student enjoys the lessons and looks forward to what is coming next. Guitar certainly can be challenging but it doesn't have to be boring!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a variety of gear as needed to complement the lesson, the student should provide their own instrument. If you need help picking one out, I can do that. Getting the right instrument that you are comfortable with is important. There are lots of options out there and instruments have never been more affordable.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide all my own equipment, student should have at least a guitar

*** Specialties ***
In addition to how to play guitar, if a student wants, I enjoy branching out into teaching/coaching songwriting, recording, producing, improvising, ear training and basic music theory, and performance skills. I also can do some coaching related to music business, marketing, guitar gear, amps, effects, gigging strategies, and pretty much anything related to these subjects.

About Chuck
Chuck moved to Portland, Oregon from Gainesville, Florida, where he was a prominent member of the music teaching and performing community for more than 25 years. Originally from Chicago, Chuck completed his BA in Music History and Masters of Music (MM) at the University of Florida. Chuck became obsessed with The Beatles when he began piano lessons at age 12. His first attempt at composing was actually improvising melodies over the ending chords to "Hey Jude". Along with playing Beatles tunes Chuck learned classic standards from a set of Reader's Digest Songbooks inherited from his grandmother.

Chuck has performed with classic rock, top 40, funk, R&B, and jazz groups, and has served as an opening act for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and legendary Texas bluesman Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. As a soloist he's played classical musi
c, blues, jazz, and original compositions. Before devoting himself to music full time, he worked for 8 years as a radio announcer on WUFT-FM Gainesville hosting shows such as "Nothing but the Blues", "Montage" (acoustic jazz), and "Musica Antiqua" (Renaissance and Medieval).

Chuck has taught students of all ages and skill levels in piano, guitar, organ, flute, digital keyboards, recorder, and ukulele. He's also a multi-faceted composer whose instrumental pieces are infused with elements of classical, blues, and jazz styles.

Chuck's teaching philosophy: "In my 25 years of teaching I’ve found that everyone learns in different ways and at different rates of progress, so each of my students is treated as a unique individual. I try to get to know my students in the first few lessons so I can be more sensitive to their personalities. This helps me choose the best teaching approach for them. From the very first lesson I create a relaxed setting so students feel no apprehension, especially when trying something new. This allows them to feel free to take chances and experience playing music as something enjoyable, not a life or death situation! The biggest measure of my effectiveness as a teacher is when my students embrace new challenges and the opportunity to improve".

*** Lesson Details ***
My primary goal as a teacher is to present musical material in a way that keeps students excited about what they are learning. Even with absolute beginners, I will have a student playing actual songs that they are interested in as quickly as possible. Along the way I include fundamentals such as scales, strength-building exercises, rudiments of theory, and ear training. Some of the method books I use include the Alfred and Faber and Faber series, and Hanon's The Virtuoso Pianist, among many others. These materials are always supplemented with arrangements and transcriptions of popular songs and classical pieces, along with original exercises designed to teach specific styles and techniques. I also use interactive music websites to introduce students to concepts of music theory. The styles that I cover include classical, rock, jazz, and blues. As students progress in their creativity, I also introduce them to composition and improvisation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Kawai K50 upright piano, music playback devices, Hammond C3 organ, multiple keyboards/synthesizers, acoustic and electric guitars, amplifiers, computer recording equipment; parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any specific equipment. Piano students should have either a well-tuned piano or full-sized weighted-key digital keyboard (Casio Privia, for example). Guitar students should have a well set up electric or acoustic guitar and an amplifier (for an electric guitar).

*** Specialties ***
I teach students of all ages and skill levels. The styles that I cover include classical, rock, jazz, and blues. I also teacher recording techniques using computer software including Ableton Live, Reason, and Pro Tools.

I am really impressed with Chuck's ability to get right to the things I want to learn while still explaining the fundamentals. I'm a self-taught guitar player (30 years) but I came to Chuck with no reading skills and no piano experience at all. He has been able to take what I know and show me how to apply it to learning theory, but within 3 lessons he also has me really excited about playing actual music that I'm into. Great learning studio and professional yet laid-back demeanor. Definitely plan on sticking with Chuck.

Music performance includes the methods of bringing a piece to an audience. It includes acting, body language, tone and expression in the voice. It may also include discussions of what the song means to the performer and how they would like to share that.
I recommend adults take from 45 minute to 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons.

About Julia
I have a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories as well as graduating from Vocal Performance programs at Boston University and Western Washington University. I have sung professionally with Boston Lyric Opera, Children’s Theater Companies, churches and synagogue and have toured on the east coast as well as Athens, Greece. Premiering new music is a specialty. I can help you prepare your pieces for auditions.  My students have successful auditions for college opera and music theater programs, and as choir soloists.

Students gain a larger vocal range and an easy, natural way of singing whether it is in a rock band, choir or as a soloist. Together we find the joy of singing while building a solid technique.

I have worked with small children as a Musikgarten teacher and have toured artist residency
programs which introduce children to music and theater in schools.   I was adjunct faculty at the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University and local music studios as well as maintaining my private teaching practice.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am persistent and positive! Working and performing with singers and master teachers has helped me to be a resourceful teacher who understands the process of becoming a singer. I believe that a sense of fun and play helps you to accomplish your goals quickly.  For beginners you will learn how the voice works and how to care for and develop your instrument, I recommend adults take 45" - 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. We will choose music that interests you and helps to build your voice starting with basics before moving to more complex and challenging music. Understanding music theory and sight-reading will help you get the most out of your singing. After 3 - 6 months you should have a good command of breathing and an understanding of how to sing with an expressive tone. For the advanced student, I can help you work on trouble spots and give you tools to help with the changes that voices naturally go through.  I look forward to giving you my full focus and celebrating your growth and accomplishments!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Condo w/ open area with piano. Visitor's parking lot w/ seating in studio for parents to listen. Parents with younger siblings can use play areas outside.
Basic library of vocal music, giving the student a way to sample different kinds of songs before purchasing books or downloading songs on their own. Music stand, iPhone plug-in/Amp for accompaniments and examples you want me to hear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a basic library of vocal music at my home studio and will bring targeted books with me. Students should print out their favorite popular songs from such services as Music Notes website.
I expect my students to provide a keyboard, music stand and notebook as well as a low distraction environment.

*** Specialties ***
As an opera and musical theater, Oratorio and church singer, I help singers of all levels improve within their genre from popular music to opera. A good singing technique will help performers in any style stay healthy and enjoy an expressive singing instrument.

With 2 American Idol finalists to his credit, along with numerous students who have gone on to professional careers in theater, television, and film. He also has 16 years experience as Musical Director for over 45 theatrical productions in Southern California, Oregon, and Washington.

He has received an award in Southern California for Outstanding Musical Direction in a theatrical production of "The King and I." He is currently the vocal coach for Magenta Theater and Musical Director for Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy, both in Vancouver, WA.

He has traveled the US with The Continental Singers, an international singing group, been a choral director
in churches and various performing groups. He has worked as a recording studio engineer, live sound engineer, and theater sound designer.

Don strives to bring out the best in each student. Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, Don will expand your musical horizon and styles to new levels.

*** Lesson Details ***
All that I request from a student is a desire to learn. I will work with you at your pace to achieve the musical goals you have. Each student begins at a different level.

The first lesson will focus on your musical background. If you are a beginner, that's no problem. I specialize in working with beginning students to teach them all the joy and satisfaction there is in mastering an instrument.

I love to laugh and the lessons are very laid back and fun, but I desire that a student move forward and learn new techniques.

You will be playing simple songs after your first lesson. I'm asked many times by students "how long will it take until I'm good." My answer is: that is in direct proportion to the amount of time you dedicate to practicing. After a month or two, you will know how to read music and have a basic understanding of music theory.

I use various curriculum depending on the student's need. For piano, I generally use Alfred Methods. For guitar, Hal Leonard or Mel Bay. For voice, the curriculum is individually tailored to the students level and goals.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in theatrical performance for actors/vocalists.

Time will be spent playing songs, perfecting songs, and improvising

About Bryan
Bryan is a lifelong student trained in both Contemporary and Classical methodology. Bryan's extensive education paired with his passion for music make him the perfect teacher for any student. Bryan's love for music started at a young age. He began taking private guitar lessons at the age of 10 learning the basics. This knowledge has served as the basis for all of his musical training as it provided a strong backbone of fundamental skills to build upon. Graduating from the University of Oregon in 2005, he practiced and perfected the classical approach to music. Bryan's education continued at the Musicians Institute based in the music capital of the world, Los Angeles. Here he diversified his music skills with vigorous training in the contemporary study of music. This contrast allows Bryan to teach everything from Rock n' Roll to Beethoven!

Bryan Specializes in the guitar and Bass Guitar; however, he is proficient in piano and drums as well. His interests range from simply perfecting the art of guitar playing, to composing modern music for entire bands. Additionally, Bryan's expertise extends into the technological side of recording and producing music. Thorough knowledge of popular computer programs allows Bryan to complete almost any music related task.

Bryan has been teaching private lessons for the past 10 years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an incredibly patient teacher with only one goal in mind: help the student progress steadily! For this reason, every students lessons will be different. However, a typical lesson will aim to improve on 4 basic categories... Guitar technique and dexterity, Music Theory / Improvisation, Learning students favorite Songs, and Personal projects. Personal projects can range from writing songs, to recording songs, or to learning the basics of other instruments.

As a lifetime musician I have a very good idea of what works for most students. However, my goal is to be YOUR teacher, and I will focus on whatever it is that interests you the most!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is made up of high quality equipment. It currently includes electric guitars, Acoustic guitars, BASS Guitars, baritone guitars, a piano, Mac computers and a Professional PA system. There is also a ton of peripheral equipment including amplifiers, effects pedals, a Drum machine and stereo equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can Provide Everything for Guitar players. I recommend an amplifier, tuner and a cable.

*** Specialties ***
I am particularly proficient in Rock Guitar and Music Theory. I specialize in songwriting as an application of Music Theory.

Hi everyone! In my studio, I love to teach private piano or voice lessons and I welcome students of all ages. My schedule is pretty flexible and in addition to teaching, I perform opera and classical music professionally. I have over 4 years of teaching experience and I hold my Masters of Music degree in Voice Performance. Although I have the tools to teach many elements of music, I love to cater my lessons to the needs and wants of my students. Lessons are fun and laid back but you will definitely walk away having learned something new. I'd love to chat, so if you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask me. I look forward to hearing from you!

About Kari
°°°Expectations°°°
My expectations during lessons are not very strict and instead is based on a willingness to learn and enjoyment of singing or playing. I hope that my students have ideas of what they would like to sing/play, but I am also able to make recommendations if needed. I also ask that students be respectful of being on time to lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical piano and classical voice. What that entails within the piano spectrum, is that I believe in a structured lesson divided into three main focuses. It includes learning the fundamentals of theory by introducing scales at the very start of lessons, always learning something new each lesson in order to slowly build upon those fundamentals, and then we apply what we can to a lesson book where songs are worked through and then assigned for homework. I
also love for my students to collaborate with me on choosing a favorite song of theirs that the student would like to play as their fun piece.

Within the singing spectrum, I teach the Italian bel canto style technique (without really specifically saying so at each lesson depending on the age and desires of the student). I believe that solid vocal flexibility, strength, and a focus on free but controlled breath support allows for people to sing many different genres of music. Most of the time I do teach pop (especially to my younger students) and more popular styles of music than strictly classical but that is my specialty in what I like to study and perform myself.

I am currently performing professionally around Oregon in pursuit of a career in performing opera. That is truly what I am passionate about. However, throughout these 4 years of teaching, I have also found a passion in teaching children and adults of all ages and helping people to achieve their own personal singing goals; whatever that may be.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions of concerns! I am an open book.

Hello!

I love to teach and I have devoted my life to obtaining the highest music education possible. Learning to play an instrument is fun but it is also challenging. My lessons consist of technique and general music training that include aural skills and music theory. My lessons are a lot of fun because I have high standards, but also maintain a light hearted atmosphere. I teach violin and viola from beginning to advanced levels. My students have ranged in age from 3 to 65 years old and I feel that I can teach students at any age.

If you want to include learning to play the violin or viola in your life then I would be a great choice for a teacher. Thank you. Elisa

Whether you want to play in your bedroom or get out and play stages, I can help you get there. Since I've been 17 I have been in a band, including playing multiple genres in those bands. I've played by myself and also in a 10 piece band. I've played in front of hundreds of people.

About Tim
I love to help anyone who has been told they're not able to play guitar, has quit out of frustration, or been told they're too old or too young to play.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is customized to your learning style and different for everyone depending on what you want to learn. Most of my students like to learn from scratch which would include the following:
In the first 3 lessons you will learn basic guitar fundamentals, basic 1-4-5 song progressions (the stuff that 85% of all music we listen to is made up of), left hand / right hand coordination, picking techniques, how to strum, mute, & play notes on the guitar.

We can play as a band too. When you are ready, I love to bring out the drum or backing tracks to your favorite artists songs while you play guitar and I play what your not, giving you the feel of a live group
situation that can make learning at your lesson more fun.

Genres include Acoustic, Blues, Country, R&B, Funk, Latin, Jazz, Rock, Pop and more.
