Having been a professional performance artist since 1972, I have practical as well as theoretic knowledge on how to make you shine on stage. I'll teach you basic techniques and "insider secrets" that will quickly have you looking and playing like a pro!

About Steven
Have you always wanted to learn how to play the piano, guitar or electric bass? Or maybe you've just felt like brushing up your musical knowledge and playing skills? Now’s your chance to fulfill those dreams!

About Me: San Francisco Bay area pianist/guitarist/bassist; I've been playing music for over 50 years. I'm classically trained with a solid foundation and knowledge of music theory, and have over 40 years experience teaching, recording and performing. I have done session work and/or performed with members of Journey, Santana, Jackson Browne, Eddie Money, The Doobie Brothers and Greg Allman to name a few, and am currently teaching piano, theory and bass to Mike Dirnt, the bassist for Green Day. Let me take my education and experience and pass them on to you!

My main goal as a music instructor is to pass along my love and kno
wledge of playing music to my students, always vigilant for sharing shortcuts that will help the student to achieve their lesson goals faster. Some teachers teach only out of books. I am not such a teacher. Books solve the problem of learning music in generalizations and by their very nature, cannot take into consideration personal issues a student will encounter.

Most students are able to learn enough of the necessary mechanics at the first lesson to actually play something before they leave that lesson. This is important because they realize that playing music IS possible. I always enjoy the look on their face when they realize they have actually “played” their instrument at their first lesson.

I am not the sort of teacher who yells and screams if the student comes in unprepared. I realize that people come to me for a variety of reasons and I work with them with whatever they bring in. I am patient and if a student is not understanding a certain aspect, I bring into play alternate approaches. Not everyone assimilates information in the same way. Learning music should be an enjoyable adventure for the student and I venture to say that my students enjoy coming to their lessons. We have fun, and we learn.

My current rates are $40 per half hour, $60 per 45 minutes and $80 per hour, and believe me... you will get your money's worth! Also I should note that due to my current students, plus teaching at a private school in Sausalito and recording sessions, my time constraints only allow me to teach lessons out of my home studio in Alameda. Hopefully this will work for you as well!

Steve is a rare find - an accomplished musician, a great teacher, and a genuinely nice guy. My 10 year old and I have been taking lessons with him for the past year, and our progress/improvement has been significant and noticeable. Particularly with my son, Steve is patient, supportive, and very encouraging, and he teaches at just the right level. He always makes sure that we cover music theory along with learning our favorite songs in order to get the most out of our training. My enjoyment of piano has increased significantly since starting lessons with Steve, and each time we leave a lesson he says: "Have fun with it!" I highly recommend Steve as a teacher.

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

Students will learn how to perform while playing the drum set and not just look like their having fun, but show their audience and peers they are having fun. We learn this in a step-by-step process.

About Jeff
Hello Students/Parents:

I have been drumming for 20 years. I tend to work mainly as a freelance drummer on multiple acts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
My main Styles tend to include; Pop,Rock,Funk,Reggae and Hip-hop. I am funny, friendly, outgoing, great with kids, and have been teaching music for 5 years and counting.

Example of our First Lesson:
we will work on a fun song/groove-- then we will work on reading and/or rudiments. I am also very patient and Flexible to those students whom have special needs, or want to go slower.
I teach using a combination of modern, traditional and personal books, and Popular music charts.

"œWhen the student combines his/her playing with a strong practice, playing, and performance regimen, they are bound to get better and improve to continue making music a concrete hobby in their life."

Have a big performance or important audition coming up? Regardless of instrument, I can give you pointers on how to present yourself and your performance material when you get up on the big stage.

About Dayv
Dayv D. is a Bay Area native who graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2012 with a degree in Performance. At Oberlin, Dayv was a recipient of the Dean's Talent Award scholarship and studied with professors Gary Bartz, Paul Cohen, Jim Umble, and Tim Ruedeman. While trained in a wide range of disciplines, Dayv is a huge fan of music from the Baroque Era and insists on performing compositions by J.S. Bach as often as possible.

Dayv believes that students learn most effectively when they are intrinsically motivated, and makes an effort to cultivate this motivation in his students. He is attuned to each of his students' individual goals, and goes the extra mile to help his students achieve them.

Dayv plays Clarinet for the Silicon Valley Philharmonic.

David D. is an ideal music teacher for me, an adult learner. I appreciate his two-pronged approach: (1) instruction in piano and (2) appreciation of great music. He prods me to plow through the basic piano books, and he provides insights along with YouTube links to performances of some of the world's best music.

Dayv's depth of knowledge and his dedication to music are infectious. He has also been very accommodating to my changing schedule. I always look forward to my piano lessons. Dayv has given me a joyful appreciation for music.

I've been playing for about 9 years and have played in several bands. I've bee teaching for about 4 years and find its best to teach as we play rather than teach theory and then play. My personal teaching style is to show a student chords and or scales in the beginning of class, then use the rest to play around with them and then focus on the technique to play it efficiently and effectively.

About Cristopher
As a musician that has played for about a decade, I have studied and worked to become a teacher. I've played in numerous bands, have worked in studios, and have been teaching for about four years now and am always finding new ways to understand and help accomplish my students' goals. I've studied music theory and composition from Mike Keller (Letters From the fire) and David Meckler (Canada College music department). I'm currently working on an independent album that has begun recording.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find it's easiest to asses the level at which a student is at and work from there, moving towards the goal set by the student using music the student already enjoys, not kiddy books with songs they'll never actually play. My styles focus on technique and work back to theory. I play anything and everything from country to Santa
na, to Metallica, and to everything in between. I teach from covers to original works.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The equipment I have for the studio are a couple of my electric guitars: Midnight Blue Schecter Omen 6, Ibanez S470DXQM, KSE ASG, Ibanez F0509338, Fender Stratocaster. My BOSS ME-33 special effects pedal, my Raven RG20 amplifier, and my Fender Frontman 15G amplifier. I also have multiple iMacs for Garageband and a recording studio. (services of which cost additional value for use)

*** Travel Equipment ***
The equipment I have for travel are a couple of my electric guitars: KSE ASG, Ibanez F05, and a Fender Stratocaster. My BOSS ME-33 special effects pedal, my Raven RG20 amplifier, and my Fender Frontman 15G amplifier.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in technique so I can help even the newest of players find their style and learn how to work on memorizing the fretboard without even having to look at it or your finger placement. I can also help more advanced players smooth out their way of playing.

Music performance is serious business, expect to be expected with high expectations

About Cecilia
I earned my B.A. in Music with a minor in Italian Studies from Santa Clara University. I am currently getting my master's degree in education from Santa Clara University while working on a high school teaching credential. I have taught students from 5 year old to 70 year old and I studied classical singing with the most renown singers and teachers. I also had special training in music multiple times in Italy. I helped many people with pitch issues, tone quality, musicality, performance, and acting. My students were able to build their confidence; they turned from beginners to performers. I have performed with many great singers around the world and have experience singing in opera productions, choirs, solo recitals, to name a few. The knowledge my students get are the essence from not only all my musical experience, also all my teachers a
nd colleagues' essence.

I set my expectations high for all students. Students are expected to learn all the assigned music and practice throughout the week. Music is fun but it also takes a lot of work. However, students' progress will vary. As long you are eager to learn, passion about music, diligent with the work, you will far exceed even your own expectations.

Most of my students improve tremendously in a short period of time. I not only teach them singing, phrasing, and language, but I stress vocal techniques, emotions behind music, acting in character, and performing as a professional.

Lesson regiments are tailored to synthesize student goals and musical passions, setting a foundation in the instrument of interest.

Technique and practice-exercises provide the core for study and development (but we won't let that get in the way of the fun!).

My teaching philosophy largely derives from experience with master-drummers of different fields of study; my methods are thus a synthesis of concepts designed to ensure anyones improvement. We all have rhythm!

About Joe
I'm a professional percussionist and educator based out of the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz, CA. I received a B.A. in Music from Humboldt State University and a Masters of Music from Long Beach State University.

Versed in drum-set, hand drums, and Western and contemporary percussion, I've performed professionally in settings ranging from cruise-line house bands and symphony orchestras, to Hong Kong and bay area parades and festivals.

My 20 years of performance experience has given to teaching percussion-appreciation and world-music at summer camps, non-profit youth-group organizations, and after school classes.

My students will learn outstanding vocal technique that they can apply to any vocal style they choose, as well as character development, build repertoire for performance and/or auditions, gain confidence and poise, and be in a comfortable atmosphere for learning and growing. I always maintain a supportive, welcoming environment for students coming from all walks of life, and I enjoy challenging my students as well as being challenged as an educator. Come and have fun as a performer and musician!

About Christine
Music has been my food, soul and expression since birth, and I share that same passion with each of my students every day. Not only do my students train in building exceptional vocal technique, but also character preparation, repertoire selection, posture development, resume and audition skills, and personalized career coaching based on their levels. I believe in training an all-around performer who does not limit their abilities to only one thing, but being versatile and constantly thinking outside of the box!

A little about my background: I studied at San Jose State University, graduating with honors in the Music Performance program with a focus in Operatic/Classical studies. To supplement, I also have my degree in Musical Theater & Dance from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (Los Angeles and New York). I sing opera and mus

I have taken voice lessons from Christine for about 3 years. I am so lucky to have found her.

Christine knows how to lay the foundation and give me the tools I need to build my own singing voice. She has taught me to feel and understand the complexity of my singing anatomy, to associate different tones to physical feeling. She has given me the tool box I need to continuously improve my voice, to get where I want my voice to be.

She is very professional and very patient. She does not cut corners and will do everything possible to get you where you want to go. She thoroughly understands the voice and she really knows how to teach.

Christine is now my third vocal coach in the bay area. My first coach did an excellent job focusing on exercises, but wanted to shape my voice to the style he wanted. My second coach was a fantastic cheerleader to the point that it felt like puffery and I started doubting his praise. At our first lesson, Christine took the time to ask me what I was looking for and what instruction style I wanted and, I have to say, she has been nailing it!.

Her technical pointers are spot on, she finds the tips and tricks that work for me, and her praise always feels earned. And, to be fair, I often earn her criticism, too, but it is polite and she makes sure I understand why I drew it.

As one final note, I think there is an ocean of difference between understanding how to sing in theory and understanding how to sing because of personal experience. Theory is great, but it doesn't always translate to the real world. Having an instructor that knows what tends to work in the real world was an important quality for me. I recently got a chance to see Christine perform and it's pretty clear that she knows what works in the real world. So, in lessons, the advice she gives isn't just "the golden rule." It's what she would do and believe me, you want to do what she would do.
