Technique- We will help you improve breathing, phrasing, improving tone, projection and develop range.

different genres.

Performance skills- It's one thing to sing in a room one on one
with a vocal instructor and quite another to be onstage with an
audience with all eyes on you as you stand in front of the mic. How do
you connect with your audience? How do you handle nerves? How do you
talk between songs? Some of these things are learned best from
experience. Most singers are working on their voice because they want
to perform. Michael will provide opportunities for performance
experience for each artist when each individual is ready.

How to communicate with a band /accompanists. How to know what keys you

Michael is the best singing teacher I've ever had. He has done a wonderful job of helping me to reach the potential that I knew I had as a singer.

Michael is the best! Right from the start he picked up on the weak areas of my voice and we've been working on it since. He goes through the exercises such that I'm singing the way I wanted without even thinking about it. And he doesn't miss a thing. If I miss a note he's right there having me do it over again until I get it right.

He also explained in detail what the problem areas were and how to fix them. Describing with words how to use the human voice is no easy task, but he knows exactly how to get the point across.

I was originally pessimistic about online lessons, but I thought I'd try it since I couldn't find anyone with credentials and experience like Michael's in Atlanta for less than a gajillion an hour. I was pleasantly surprised. I can sing in the comfort of my own home, and it's just like he's right there with me.

Nicole's approach to teaching voice is very laid back.
She believes that if you have a rigid curriculum, you leave no room for individuality and creativity. Her goals are to assess your voice, listen to her students goals and needs and develop a plan based upon what her student wants coupled with her professional suggestions on areas that she feels need the most focus for development. Motivated

I'm a senior citizen that still works. I played some other instruments when I was younger and always wanted to play piano and Michael has motivated me to continue to learn and fit my practice into my work schedule. Anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument should look no further then Michael.

Hi parents/students,

My name is Sylivan. I'm a dedicated musician who is passionate in music education and guitar music. I have majored in Music and received my professional training at City College of New York with a minor in Education. I have been playing music for 20 years and have performed in many different occasions. Over the years, I have developed various kinds of skills in music from my education, formal training and experiences:

*** Lesson Details ***
During our first lesson, we will first talk about your goal and music direction that you want to pursuit. Then based on your goal and direction, I will customize a curricular track and briefly explain the things that you need to know and what you need to focus on in order to achieve your goal.

As your instructor, my goal is to help you to reach your goals and to have fun with the music you enjoy. In each lesson, according to your progress, I will introduce you new concepts/materials using fun and easy-to-learn activities. Then we will work on the materials together and have fun jamming together. Yes!! You will feel like you are jamming along with your friend instead of taking a guitar lesson, because guitar lessons suppose to be fun!!!

Each particular lesson I will assign you some assignments. They would either be things that we already jammed on during the lesson, or something that I want you to work on your own. Then when we meet again, we will go over the assignments together and I will give you comments and advises to help you play better.

Below are only some of the instructional books that I usually use for teaching beginners. I will also use other instructional books and music repertories according to the ability of the students and their music style:

From my experience as a teacher and student, I believe there is no such thing as a “Perfect Instructional Book”. Therefore along with the above instructional books I will add in some other activities and exercises written by myself.

Sylivan is a great teacher with great personality. He was there to help me not only when I struggled with music and guitar but also when I felt down. I am a classically-trained pianist, and received music education in Paraguay, South America, and at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie, TX. I have also excelled at playing many styles by ear. I am fortunate to also love teaching, which allows me the incredible privile

I have 30+ years of experience teaching piano--from numerous four-year-olds to an eighty-six-year-old student. In addition to teaching students to play by note, I enjoy teaching students to play by ear. Together, we will explore many different types of music--Easy-listening, Country, Southern Gospel, Black Gospel, Blues, Latin, Contemporary, Classical, etc.

I am qualified to teach piano by note from beginner through early advanced (all ages); by ear, beginner through very advanced.

I also have experience teaching special needs students, students with physical handicaps, and students with physical limitations (Ex: Autism, delayed learning, ADD, ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis, etc.), and feel that anyone can learn to play. We may need to slow the pace or change the technique, but I haven't found a child or an adult who couldn't learn to play piano, if they really have the desire to do so. In many cases, I've seen students who struggle in other areas of life excel in the area of music.

I have written more than 200 songs (mostly Gospel and some easy listening), with numerous ones having been recorded by various artists. Several have been arranged and published for church choirs.

Having lived in South America as a child, I am bilingual and qualified to give piano lessons in English or in Spanish.

I would be honored to share my knowledge and love of music with you. Give yourself a priceless gift that will last a lifetime!

*** Lesson Details ***
Our sessions will be laid back and comfortable, yet challenging. Humor will often find its way into our sessions. I am patient with my students, while helping them master new songs or techniques. I understand that every student learns in a way that is unique to them, and I will do my best to discover each student's learning method. I do not expect perfection, but I do strive for excellence. I believe every student should work to be the best pianist they can possibly be, while having fun doing so!

I believe it is important for students to have a strong foundation of learning to read notes--so much so, that I will not teach a young student to play by ear, who is is not willing to learn to play by note as well.

Adults who have never had piano lessons are encouraged to learn to play by note as well, and will be given the opportunity to learn to play by ear if they desire. Adults who have a good knowledge of reading music will truly enjoy learning to play many styles by ear, and learning how to improvise (adding extra elements to written music).

Each lesson will conclude with an assignment of songs given to work on throughout the week--usually 2-3 songs for 30-minute lessons, and 4-5 songs for an hour-long lesson. These will be the same songs we have worked on during the lesson time, so you will go home with the knowledge you need to master each song. Music theory sheets and technique exercises will also be included in the assignments.

Daily practice is strongly urged, in order for the student to progress. If a student doesn't practice, they won't progress. If they don't progress, they will become bored. It's a very short path from boredom to quitting. That's a tragedy that can very easily be avoided, by making a commitment to practice 5-6 days a week. The amount of recommended practice times varies according to age and level of skill.

Students will showcase what they have learned at a yearly recital, the second Saturday in December. I also encourage students to share their talent in community and school talent shows, at church, at family gatherings, and for friends. In just a few weeks you'll be playing songs that others will recognize!

Note: I do have cats in my home. Unfortunately, I do not have a way to block their access to the music studio. If you or your child has a problem with cat allergies, I can teach the lesson next door in our church.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are taught in the front room on a studio piano. There is a couch for seating for parents who wish to stay and observe a lesson. The yearly piano recital is conducted at First Assembly of God (next door to the studio), and students will enjoy playing my 5'9" grand piano located in the church sanctuary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I purchase the necessary books and lesson binder, and the student reimburses me. I provide weekly lesson sheets for the lesson binder. Every student needs to have a piano or keyboard, plenty of good lighting, and a reasonably quiet room.

Mrs. Moss has taught all three of our children, who are of various ages and various abilities/styles of learning. Each child has enjoyed working with her! Mrs. Moss approaches teaching with a loving heart and a desire to share the gift of music with her students. She uses a mix of teaching by note and by ear, using various styles of music. I especially like the fact that, in addition to assigning pieces, she encourages students to learn pieces of their choosing. She communicates expectations very clearly with students and parents, which is much appreciated.

I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. Carl was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Carl has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Carl went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Carl was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Carl was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Carl's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen,Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Carl performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr.,Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

Carl's primary saxophone instructors have been Vince Gnojek, Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert, Dr. Ann Bradfield, Dr. Keith Talley, and William Rodney Hull. He has had additional instruction in lessons and masterclasses from Gary Foster, Dr. Joseph Murphy, Dr. Michael Cox, Bob Sheppard, Johnny Salinas, Dr. Kimberly Goddard Loeffert, Dr. Geoffrey Deibel, Dr. Jonathan Nichol, Dr. Griffin Campbell, Dr. James Laughlin, and Dr. David Dees. Carl's jazz directors have included Dan Gailey, Bob McCurdy, Dr. Jonathan Martin, Dr. Keith Talley, and Dr. Terry Segress.

​Carl lives in Brookings, South Dakota. He enjoys recording several instruments in his home studio and composing new music. His compositions that have been performed include his big band arrangement of Cat Battles by Joshua Redman,September in the Refrain (alto saxophone and electronics), Funk-o-matic (jazz combo), Smooth (jazz combo), and The Deadline Arrives at Dawn (alto saxophone and electronics). As an advocate of new music involving the saxophone, he has participated in a commissioning consortium for Alone Together by composer David MacDonald through Kick Starter. In 2013, Carl performed the premier of Cuento #3 by Nelson Ramirez Diaz. During summer of 2014, he recorded selections from Dr. John Walker's "The Alto Saxophone in the Attic," published by Carl Fischer. At the 10th Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival in 2015, Carl directed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I's premier of Dog, Tired by David von Kampen.

​Dr. Carl is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist. He hosted the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 (ND, SD, NE, MN, IA) Conference at South Dakota State University on March 17-18, 2017. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Carl performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. On Monday, February 6, 2017, Carl will be performed the premiere of Lhotse for alto saxophone and percussion by Steve Danyew with Dr. Aaron Ragsdale.

There are some restrictions based on the maturity of the child and the goals of the lessons. Kids under 13-14 years of age are not very focused on practicing or conceptual musical ideas. If we are just teaching and reinforcing basic things and exposing the child to music, it's a great time to teach them. Otherwise I could be wasting your money.

My name is Olivier H. I am a horn player who received my MM in Horn Performance from Indiana University and am currently working on my DM. I have performed with American Youth Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra and Columbus Philharmonic as well as being a finalist for Macau Symphony and semi-finalist for New World Symphony. I have also performed in sections with Dale Clevenger, Jeff Nelsen and Elizabeth Freimuth. My teaching style relies on simplifying breathing and focusing on achieving the best possible musical results. I take into account each student's goals and desires and tailor lessons to get the end result they want. Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.

I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.

Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.
