Every student is different, so I tailor my lesson plans around the student's specific learning style and needs. Ultimately, my goal is for my students to love music and love playing the violin as much as I do.

I encourage students to listen to as much music as they can and if there is ever a specific song or piece they want to I am more than happy to incorporate it into the lesson!

For younger students and beginners, I use Essential Elements or Suzuki books. I believe it is important to learn to read music from a young age, so I incorporate that into lessons for beginners. Scales and etudes are also key to providing a strong foundation for young students. A similar approach is also used for adult beginners.

For intermediate students I utilize the Solos for Young Violinists books as they provide a nice transition into more extensive solo repertoire. Depending on the need of the student, I might also pick specific pieces outside of the books that I think will enhance their ...

Katherine is teaching my 5-year old daughter to play violin. My daughter is a high energy kid who is still learning letters in kindergarten so Katherine has had her work cut out for her to teach her to play and read music. However, with patience and clever ways of teaching I can see that my daughter is understanding the fundamentals of music and if anyone can teach my daughter to play violin, it's Katherine.

Highly Recommended! Confident and Talented Violin Instructor

It had been over 5 years since I picked up my violin, so I was feeling very guilty and afraid of resuming lessons after such a long break. Kat never once made me feel guilty about the break - she was so encouraging yet firm with her recommendations for getting back to the skill level where I once was.

After just two lessons, I noticed a significant improvement, and I'm so excited to continue to regain my confidence in the coming weeks. I can't recommend her enough! She's a pleasure to work with and I'm grateful to have found such a great teacher to instruct me in something I enjoy so much.

Kyle is a great teacher. My grandson Franklin has trouble with paying attention, but Kyle was great when it comes to keeping him focused and interested. He has been with Kyle for close to a year now, and even though he is only 8 years old, he has learned a lot! I would highly recommend taking lessons with Kyle. I have over 50 years of teaching experience including working with all age groups, and hold two degrees from the College/Conservatory of Music. I have a deep passion for sharing the world of music which encompasses much more than simply learning to play the instrument. This involves integrating pertinent knowledge of music theory and music history into lessons to help students understand what the composer was expressing.

About Barbara
I am an accomplished musician in both violin and piano. I graduated summa cum laude from the College/Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. My passion is in teaching one-on-one to encourage the student's inner passion and self-expression skills which may be more easily expressed through music than language or anything else. I'm hoping to expand my current studio.

My daughter Jenna is Barbara's student, and "patience" is what first came to her mind. She has also helped Jenna with her technique. She has a wealth of experience, and we feel fortunate to have found her on the westside. Lastly, she is very willing to work with us when we need to change a lesson time due to an occasional conflict.

I am a professional violinist with over 10 years of teaching experience. My specialty are beginner or intermediate students of any age! We will learn music theory, proper posture, beginner-through-advanced violin technique, and more, based on my own musical education at the University of Michigan and the Royal College of Music in London. I approach lessons with excitement, positivity, and creativity, and will help each student grow in both skill and love of playing the violin!

About Aviva
I am a professional violinist and teacher with 20 years of playing, and almost 10 years of teaching experience. This July, I received my Master's degree in violin performance from the Royal College of Music, the #1 performing arts conservatory in Europe and the UK.

I teach violin because it is my passion, because I love music, and because of the joy, confidence, and positive motivation my students experience over the course of their lessons. Every student is unique, and my approach tailors to the needs, questions, and interests of my students. Together, we develop strong technique, healthy posture and hand positions, a great understanding of music theory, quick note-reading and sight-reading skills, and a variety of tools to play beautifully and expressively.

In addition to my education, my teaching draws on extensive experience i
n orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist, across many U.S. states and abroad. I was assistant concertmaster of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra in London, won state and national competitions in chamber music, and performed for live broadcast on Chicago's classical radio 98.7 WFMT as well as National Public Radio's program, "From the Top."

Viva Aviva!

I am an adult student that is new to the violin but I do play a number of other instruments.

Aviva is an exceptional instructor. So patient and so proficient. Aviava seems to have an innnate ability to know just when to be "picky" and when to perhaps "let a few mistakes" slide. The result . . . I am making consistent progress and know exactly where to focus my time and attention.

Aviva is a gentle but effective motivator and, as such, I alway look so forward to my weekly lesson - and I am definately inclined to work hard so as to try to "please" my teacher.

I have become all but obsessed with all things violin, and much of that is directly attributable to this delightful and talented maestro!

Please do not hesitate to work with her. I can absolutely promise you that you will be glad you did.

I have twelve years of performing experience and I am currently pursuing a music performance degree at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. I have a wide knowledge of violin repertoire from Suzuki to fiddle tunes.

About Julia
Hey! I'm a junior viola performance major at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. I started playing violin when I was 8 years old, switched to viola at 13, and the rest is history! As a teacher, my values are being able to play with physical ease, building a connection with the music you are playing, and producing beautiful, ringing sound. Ideally, our lessons would take place at the music school building in the practice wing. I want the student to love the music that they are playing, so our repertoire choices will always be carefully thought through together. I have lots of experiencing teaching children with zero music experience but am also totally comfortable teaching higher levels including intermediate and high school.
