No matter what type of music you want to sing, I can help you train your voice to get the sound you want!

About Maya
It doesn't matter how old you are or if you've spent five minutes or five years singing. Everyone has a star they want to reach for and I can help you get there!

I have been teaching voice privately for several years and trained with Allen Cathcart (Opera), Linda Balliro (mix voice), Greg Enriquez (Jazz voice) and Seth Riggs (Pop voice). I currently front a jazz trio and perform in the Boston area. While I'm not super active right now performance wise, you can catch me at the occasional open mic, singing jazz and blues.

I have directed several musicals through organizations such as Sprindrift School of the Performing Arts and Champions USA. I have worked with people of all ages and assisted them in mastering songs, have prepared them for shows and auditions and have guided them through the process of repairing their voice.

I f
irst discovered singing when I was a six. I developed a natural curiosity about how the human voice works. To supplement my studies, I began to work with a Speech Language Pathologist to develop a better understanding at Tufts Medical Center. After developing a better understanding of how the human voice worked, I was not satisfied until I found a voice teacher with a simple and direct approach to singing. This is when I discovered and began to study the famous Speech Level Singing technique

I LOVE MAYA!

Maya is an excellent instructor! Every week she solves the problems I met in practicing. She always knows what to do to make my voice better. Maya is very patient. She spent a lot of time communicating with me and listening to what I thought. She is also good at explaining how to "hit the note!" I really enjoyed Maya's classes. I've been better, and I know what to do to make my voice even better, thanks to Maya!

I have my Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance. I can help to prepare for musical recitals, band/ orchestra performances, or church performances.

About Shaneice
Hello. I have been teaching music since the age of fifteen. I would teach note value, rhythm, counting, and different sound techniques on the clarinet. All through high school, I was section leader in band, orchestra, and other organizations outside of Dayton, Ohio. I developed a sense of compassion, patience, and drive. In college I taught beginner- advance clarinet lessons and beginner piano lessons. I believe that God has given me a gift of teaching and I want to share it with others. I have my high school diploma from Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio. I received my Bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Music Performance (Clarinet), in Bowling Green, Ohio. I also received my minor in telecommunications.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is based around the student. I believe each student l
earns in their own unique way. Finding a lee-way into the students learning style is key. I am able to get any student to open up to me and communicate musically and educationally. I find out where the student's learning level is first and build from there. My overall goal in teaching is to allow each student to find their own learning style and let them know that they are each unique individuals. I am a mixture of both laid back and strict. If the student is practicing on a regular basis and is willing to learn, then the lesson will go smoothly. After three or six months with me, the student will be able to find their playing style and see what methods work best for me. For example, if a student is struggling with rhythm, I will show them different ways to use their strengths to develop the weakness.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a room w/ chairs, music books, pencils, manuscript paper, music stand, metronome, keyboard w/ pedal.

Parents are welcome to stay during lesson times as well!

*** Travel Equipment ***
FOR CLARINET STUDENT : I expect the student to have instrument, reeds, notebook, practice book(s)
FOR PIANO STUDENTS: I expect the student to have a notebook and a beginning piano book.
**We can wait until first lesson to decide on which book is best.**

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical. I use the basic principles in teaching music: scales, basic music theory, and aural skills.

I've played on countless stages with orchestras, ensembles and bands. I can show you what it takes to get it done and be ready.

About Kyle
TakeLessons.com Instructor since 2012, Kyle K. is now available for online lessons worldwide featuring a great screen sharing experience to maximum involvement with students!

Kyle has been playing guitar for over 20 years, been writing for over 15 years and has been producing music for over 10 years. He has developed his own method of teaching to positively build on the student's strengths, dexterity, ear-training, natural technique, memorization and creativity. The goal is to always design lessons around you as an individual to help you reach your goals as an artist and musician. Whether it's guitar, bass, songwriting or production this method is used to maximize results!

A word from Kyle K:
"I love music! To me, it's a way of life. From listening to playing to writing and of course teaching. I grew up with music all around
me at school and home. My dad was a piano player and teacher so music has been a part of my life since day one and I want to share what I have learned. Everyone has a unique musical talent and I enjoy helping them find it. I believe that anyone can be an excellent musician. Playing an instrument should be a fun and creative adventure. Whether it's strumming at home, playing out in the clubs, or writing the next big hit, I will do my best to get you there!

My musical life began when I was in 5th grade and my dad bought me a saxophone, which I played for over 12 years. I quickly learned how fast I could improve if I simply kept playing with focus. When I hit my teen years I fell in love with rock music and mowed enough lawns to buy my first guitar. I jammed and wrote songs with many other musicians and several bands over the years. We played countless shows and released a few albums. Now I write and produce music and sound design daily for TV, Film and Trailers for companies like Disney, Universal, MTV, NFL and many more.

I started teaching 11 years ago and found that it is one of my favorite things to do. Helping others grow into great musicians is rewarding and fun. I've learned that from grade school to retirement, each student is a unique and special individual. My lessons reflect that fact so that we can reach all your goals together. *My personal goal is to get my students to understand and write music that will stay with them and encourage them to continue."

All lessons take place in a fully operational Digital Recording Studio and dedicated lesson room. Gaining real world playing experience with current technology is a definite advantage over traditional lessons. This also allows the student to capture ideas when songwriting and provides a unique playing experience. Imagine looking back years down the line, listening to something you wrote and hearing the improvements and your own personal music history. That's what writing and recording as you learn is all about.

*** Lesson Details ***
Everyone is different, and every lesson should be suited to fit the individual. Depending on the type of lessons (guitar, bass, music production, theory, etc.) the style teaching will be adjusted to fit. It's all about YOUR goals and needs.

Each student is going to receive lessons based on their preferences of genre and style of music they desire to play. I expect my students to practice regularly and have a good time as their abilities and knowledge grow. By working together, we can focus on goals and problem solving to get you to the next level of play. Most importantly, we are going to have a blast while we learn to play music!

*We'll start slow and build your knowledge base with each lesson.
*You can expect to understand what you are playing AND be able to write your own music is desired.
*You will be given everything you'll need to succeed including custom made drums and songs to play with so you can improve at home.

Let's start learning and improving today!

Kyle is a great guitar teacher. He understands the theory as well as the mechanics of playing well. After I started taking lessons from him, I started to make consistent progress in my guitar playing, week after week. Before I started I could only play the most common open chords, and after a few months I can now play most bar chords, scales, how to find chords for the given key, transposing songs, and overall I understand the fretboard a lot better. We also work on arpeggiating, rhythm and other skills. I can recommend Kyle to anyone who wants to improve their guitar playing.

Kyle is an amazing guitar coach!! He is patient, flexible, and extremely knowledgeable on all things music. It amazes me that he can listen to a track once and immediately know exactly how to play it. I have come so far since I began training with him. I would highly recommend Kyle to anyone interested in learning music, regardless of skill level.

About Carolyn
Coming from a large extended family in Hawaii, I was surrounded by luau music, kachi-kachi dancing, Japanese bon dances, handsome local guys singing and playing their guitars and my aunties strumming their ukes and singing old songs. I reveled in walking alone in Nature or playing piano and singing in empty, stain-glassed churches – just wailing in the dark and colored light!

I studied: classical piano, organ, oboe, clarinet, violin, voice, and guitar. I sang in jazz trios and pop bands, earned income as a church organist/choir accompanist, and spent 15 years teaching private piano lessons to students of all ages.
I studied drawing and painting, I drew trees, animals, the ocean, sky and mountains, still life, and the people around me.

Upon arriving in New York City, I entered into a journey of playing at a Washington Heights gos
pel church, living in a building filled with musicians, accompanying vocal master classes, studying Sanskrit, Indian raga, world percussion, creative arts therapy and performance wellness.

I now compose and sing my songs - interweaving voice with keyboard or guitar. Besides teaching privately, I can be found performing my songs in clubs, outdoor festivals, coffee houses, and poetry/healing events. I currently attended a certificate program in sound & music healing and the focus of my music rests here. I incorporate many techniques to aid students in relaxation, breath awareness, and de-stressing.

Using traditional teaching methods, I create meaningful experiences for students by:
- being patient, flexible and creative in approach
- using visual, aural, and tactile teaching tools

One day, I decided to learn ukulele by myself but I became quickly stuck. I found Carolyn on this website and then went to her place to take my first lesson. Carolyn is super sweet; very welcoming, smiling, fun to work with. She is very positive and gives great feedbacks all the time! I learnt a lot during our session!! At some point, we sat at her piano to talk about notes and keys: it was very interesting to switch to another instrument. In addition, her place has very harmonious vibes: when I left I felt so much better!!! I definitely recommend Carolyn for music lessons! And I look forward to our next ukulele lesson!

I have a 100% rate of getting my students into their school of choice as of yet. Although I don't guarantee it, I will work relentlessly to make sure you are well prepared though. I will also lend you PDFs of books to help you save a buck.

About Scott
*Brief Update: Both of my 8th grade students were accepted to LaGuardia High School and my 5th grade student was accepted into Mark Twain Middle School for the Gifted & Talented. He also passed his audition for Borough Wide Band. Next up is getting my Junior in high school into All State Orchestra!*

*Update again. My student made all state!

I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Twenty years later here I am, a professional freelancing percussionist and teacher. The journey to where I am was a long and winding one but I can't imagine it any other way. After learning basic drumming in elementary sch
ool, I continued through middle school. There I was placed on drum kit and thought I was the coolest. I didn't take it too seriously but serious enough to keep playing drum kit. When choosing high schools I wasn't interested in keeping with drums. I only took marching band because it meant no gym. After my first year I was placed in every band the next three years, having to learn timpani and marimba for concert band. I was also recommended to join a city wide concert band, InterSchool orchestras of New York, and haven't left since. I still coach the band and help tons of high school and middle school students hone their craft. Also that year, through ISO, I was given a chance to attend French woods performing arts camp on scholarship where I began my love of playing in musical pit orchestras. Through this time I studied with a couple of teachers and had plenty of coachings with professional percussionists. Upon graduating I have played well over 100 different musicals, played with over 25 different orchestras, and have taught over 100 students both privately and in coachings. I currently run a Drumline out of a private school, coach ISO band, freelance and have a studio of 8 students. That is a short sample of my journey and I hope it inspires you to study with me.

If you choose me as a teacher, I will shape you as an overall musician, not just a "Drummer". What this means is that you won't just learn beats from me, you will learn all the fundamentals of basic to intermediate music theory, from note reading and rhythm to chord changes and ..... You will start on a practice pad and quickly go to a drum kit. Lessons will be half and half, but more 75/25 drumkit, because everything you learn on a pad can translate to the kit! I would also teach you timpani and xylophone if you like so you can broaden your horizons and even get into the middle/high school or college you want. I have most of my books of pdf that I can give you to print or you can purchase your own copies. You would also need to purchase a practice pad and eventually a drum kit. If you don't want to purchase a drum kit then there is almost no reason to study it since you won't be able to practice between lessons. Practicing, let's talk about that. It is expected that you practice the material we learn in the lesson throughout the week. Now I know everyone is busy, but if you can put aside 25 minutes (a sitcom without commercials!!) a day then you will have a better understanding and better retention of the material. Doing this will let us just review the material a little bit and go on to learn new and exciting things.

The bottom line in choosing me? I am a professional musician in the trenches of the nyc music scene and know what it takes to make it.

If you are preparing for an audition or performance with your instrument, I can help you as a musical coach. I have a lot of performance experience and am very good in helping students to deal with performance anxiety issues. Feel free to contact TakeLessons for more information on this valuable skill that all musicians must deal with at one point or another during their career!

About Victor
I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in June of 2010, studying under Dr. Roberta Gary. I have completed two years of additional graduate study at the Conservatory, and plan to utilize these credits to earn a Master's in Music in the next few years.

I began playing the piano at the age of 5, later moving to the organ at 9. I have held a church job since then, working in multiple different denominations and settings. I have a strong background of piano, accompanying, theory, sacred liturgy, and musical performance. I enjoy studying and listening to many genres of music as well as performing them. I am very interested in historically informed performance and understanding different techniques as they are related to the composition style of different time perio
ds.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. Regardless of your ability, age, or experience, I will work with you. We can work out a plan for lesson times, intensity of practice and work, and tailor the lesson to the right pace for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be tailored to the needs of individual students. I am not as much a fan of a strict curriculum that I use on each student. For beginners, one can expect to be given method books to get them moving in the right direction. As one advances, we eventually move on to repertoire. I take an approach to lessons that emphasizes total body awareness and high level mental awareness. The most important thing anyone can learn in music is that it isn't just about the right notes; it isn't about the right rhythm. It is about the complete musicianship and the complete awareness needed to truly understand and perform a work of music. In order to make this approach work, my strictness as a teacher varies depending on the level of devotion the student is willing to put forth. After six months with me as a teacher, expect to notice changes in the way you see music and comprehend your technique at the keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase their own music. For beginners with method books, I have these available to the students to purchase from me.

*** Specialties ***
I am very highly trained in performance practices of the Baroque era, especially on the organ. I am also very specialized in body movement and efficient keyboard technique. I also have a lot of experience in the Romantic repertoire of the piano. Lastly, I am also well trained as an accompanist on both the organ and the piano.

I have enjoyed working with Victor. He is very knowledgeable about the music in particular the Baroque period. He brings a very good perspective that has enriched my understanding of early music. I can say clearly that one leaves sessions with a desire to learn more and with an understanding of music as serious branch of human study rather than something that is simply fun (in the sense of being mundane amusement).

Experienced playing in front of many different audiences, i.e.
big audiences with Holland America Line, from 75 to 1000 people in the audience. Dealing with other musicians and the audience is as important as the performance itself, at times.

On the road with American Entertainment Productions,
our group of eight (8) played in front of high-school, middle school and Convention size audiences.
How to play and not lose focus playing your instrument is key.
You are there to perform and share your musical talent.

At different churches, some places were over 300 - 1000, depending on the size of the building, or course.

At lessons, we can talk how to play, read music for musical performance, and what to do after the performance.

About Kerry
Kerry attended Wright State University for two (2) years, and then transferred to Belmont University to receive a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance. He also holds a Masters of Music from Eastern Kentucky University. He also studied at the Eastman School of Music to learn Creative Music Making and African drum studies. Monica has been an amazing, talented and patient teacher with my 5 year-old daughter. My daughter has excelled in only 5 classes thanks to Monica's attention to detail, technique, and orchestral etiquette. Monica has given my daughter the correct foundation to become a violinist one day. It is so important with a beginner student to learn the correct techniques early to avoid forming bad habits that prevent proper playing of the instrument. Monica has taught Clark the basics from how to properly hold the violin, stand and most importantly; how to properly play the violin. I highly recommend Monica for any level of violin player as she clearly loves the instrument, has a very pleasant demeanor and is distinguishably accomplished in her own right.
