Completed 4 semesters of theory and an extracurricular course of Advanced Analysis for my Bachelor's of Music. I am comfortable in guiding students through the fundamentals of music theory and how to apply it to music performance.

About Gabriella
A graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University, Gabriella has earned her degree in Violin Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and recently earned her Masters in String Pedagogy at the Ohio State University under Robert Gillespie.
A few notable performances she has participated in are three solo recitals, concerts with the Danville, Lakeview, Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestras, and many performances with her quartet, including performances at the Consular Corps. Ball in Chicago. She has developed an advanced repertoire for her instrument and greatly enjoys imparting what she has learned with others.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each student is expected to attend each lesson scheduled with all materials prepared over the week. Students are expected to practice 3 to 5 days each week. The student should be engaged and act
ive in each lesson, music is so exciting! It is highly encouraged to participate in local youth orchestras and chamber music programs as well as attend concerts in the area. These events are tremendous learning opportunities!
Although I am not a "strict" teacher, I do adjust my expectations to each student and do expect each student to make progress from lesson to lesson. Within the first few months together, I can assure better posture, a more comfortable playing experience and strong technical foundations. I promise to customize a suitable lesson plan to each student in my studio to ensure they receive the best learning experience possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
We will meet at my home and a stand, music, and writing utensils will be provided.
Students should have their own instrument and accessories, i.e. shoulder rest, at home stand, rosin, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I like to incorporate a variety of musical styles such as Eastern European and Spanish traditional dances to broaden horizons.

About Steven
Steven F offers instruction for electric or acoustic bass guitar, upright bass, mandolin and ukulele as well as music theory.

Steven F., a professional musician and teacher for over fifteen years, graduated cum laude with a performance degree in the upright bass from The Ohio State University where he studied and performed everything from classical to classic rock. Indeed, from the blues to bluegrass, from rock to classical, he has done it all. He currently plays with The Spikedrivers, Fox ‘n’ Hounds Bluegrass Ensemble, and Neil Jacobs' American Gypsy. He recently performed with guitar legends GE Smith and Jorma Kaukonen and David Grier.

In addition, Fox is a gifted instructor with over twelve years of experience. He incorporates music theory and technique in lessons so his students are able to go farther than just readin
g music. They learn to create music, to play with other musicians, and to play by ear.

Although Fox is serious about music he is able to keep lessons entertaining for students, and offers instruction in many musical genres. Many of Fox’s students have gone on to study music in college and have started successful careers in the field.

Music theory provides musicians with a deeper understanding of the building blocks and underlying structure of music. By learning about music notation, chords and harmony, and the musical tradition of various performance eras, we can do many other aspects of music even better--perform, compose, improvise, transcribe, and direct.

I teach Music Theory I and II at the University of Louisville.

About Lauren
Hello! My name is Lauren S., and I am excited to bring out the musician in you!

Whether you're searching for yourself or your child, I would love to invite you to my beautiful creative space and help you meet your musical goals.

I focus on developing true artistry with my students and giving them the fundamental tools to be able to play and write various styles of music including classical, musical theater, folk, contemporary, Christian, and more.

We play from the very first lesson and learn other concepts such as music theory, literacy, and technique in subsequent lessons.

My students are involved in school ensembles, church choirs, community choirs, community and children's theater, and district contests. I support and seek out these opportunities according to their interests.

Please send me a note! I can't wait to get
started.

I usually always incorporate some music theory into the lessons whatever the instrument you are interested in learning.

About David
A fun, friendly, and professional Music Instructor at your service for Guitar, Piano, Voice, Bass, & Drums! I have a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University in Music Performance for Classical/Flamenco/Jazz/Blues guitar and I've also performed on the Piano/Keyboards for a couple different bands too. Presently, going back to School to earn a Master's in Music. Love to play & teach pretty much all styles of music! It is always a pure joy & truly rewarding to see my music students grow and flourish in their musical abilities. I have been enjoying doing this now for 18 years- all ages & levels. I am also in a multi-dimensional rock project and am a recording artist-

I believe it's important to learn the rudiments of music to build a good foundation (scales, chord vocabulary, theory, song-composition, performing techniques), but I also
base the lessons on whatever the interests and strengths are for the student. For example, if you enjoy jazz more than classical we'll focus more on what you are particularly passionate about. I have also been a part of School of Rock Programs in which we provided performances for the students a la Jack Black. Please contact Takelessons to let the musical journey begin...

My approach to music theory is that it should be learned by doing - being told what an Italian Sixth chord doesn't do you much good if you can't apply it in your own music. To that end, we'll spend time on close listening, sight-singing, dictation, rhythm games, etc., and minimal time with textbooks.

About Brendon
I am a composer, guitarist, arranger, engraver, and songwriter located in Brooklyn. I completed an M.M. in Composition at the Yale School of Music in 2014, and have taught extensively for the past eight years in a variety of settings. I currently teach guitar at Saint David's School in Manhattan, and taught private composition lessons and TA'd electronic music courses at Yale. I've also taught guitar and musicianship in public elementary and high schools in San Francisco and New Haven, as well as several music schools and my own private guitar studio.

As a guitarist, I perform with legendary NYC experimental groups the Glenn Branca Ensemble and Dither Quartet, as well as my own groups Invisible Anatomy and Marateck. I've played at the Barbican in London, on the Beijing Modern Music Festival, the Ellnora Guitar Festival, and Lincoln C
enter Out of Doors, among many others. As a composer, my work has received support from the ASCAP Foundation, Roulette Intermedium, and the Jerome Fund for New Music, and been performed on four continents. My teachers and mentors have included Mark Stewart (Paul Simon's musical director), Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang, and guitarist Jack Sanders (winner of the American Guitar Society's lifetime achievement award).

Paul is an amazing teacher and mentor. Today we tackled harmonies while recording and it was so special to me. Paul is dedicated to his craft and his students. From a young age, music theory fascinated me. I guess that's one reason I became a composer! I can help you with theory from the basics to advanced, as well as jazz theory! Whether you're just starting out, or you're looking to branch out into new genres, I can help!

About Andrew
I have a Bachelors of Music Composition from Brooklyn College, and I'm currently finishing a Masters degree. I've been playing music professionally for 27 years, spanning a wide range of styles. My knowledge of different genres gives me a unique perspective for teaching.
I've been entertaining at the piano for 15 years, playing guitar for 25+, and began my musical career primarily as a drummer with a variety of bands. I'm classically trained as a percussionist, and I studied jazz piano at the University of Kentucky before finishing my degree at Brooklyn College.

I can make the piano, drumset, or guitar approachable for traditional and non-traditional students alike. I offer a strong foundation in technique, theory, and musicality, and can teach you popular music styles and improvisation as well. I look forward to working
