Percussionist and composer Marc W. was born in Switzerland, where he studied classical percussion at the Geneva Conservatory. He has lived in the United States since the 1980's, where he studied composition and mallet technique on the vibraphone at the Berklee School in Boston, then moved to New York City to further his jazz performance and percussion skills. Since that time, Marc has toured the U.S., Europe, Japan and Brazil, and can be heard on over 20 recordings, including 4 solo albums.
Marc's interest in electronics led him to push the boundaries of live performance with the "electronic vibraphone", where he is recognized as a pioneer on this instrument.
Beside a performer and a composer, Marc teaches workshops here and in Europe, and is very involved in making computers accessible to visually impaired musicians.
Marc has just p
ublished an iBook, titled "Drum Talk - An Introduction to Percussion Ensemble", available now on iTunes. This book demonstrates the techniques he developed during his many years teaching ensembles of all ages at the Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School, it features 56 video clips and over 80 musical examples.

Every student needs a different approach depending on their temperament and goals. After assessing the student, I will tailor my teaching to achieve the most out of each lesson.
If a student is willing to commit to practicing outside of the lesson, after six months he or she will have the ability to play with others, and decide for him or herself if this is something he or she will pursue further.
The achievement level is in the hands of the student, depending on their level of commitment and abilities.

Personal Statement

I believe that progressive teaching must employ constructive pedagogical strategies to foster meaningful musical experiences for students to build and to exhibit competence. My pedagogical model is comprised of a student-centered approach to produce attainable challenges and to affect affirmative changes that will physically, technically, and emotionally enrich each student's performance.

Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!

Music theory CAN be fun and entertaining (no this is not a joke!). I always link concepts directly to genres and topics that the student actually likes. Sure, we'll have to go through certain lessons that are barely more fun than watching paint dry. But once we learn the fundamentals that rest of theory study can be incredibly engaging and informative.

I have a BA in Music from NYU and have been teaching private guitar lessons since graduating in 2009. I am able to cover many topics, including rock, metal, jazz, classical, improvisation, transcription, composition, general dexterity and more. Dylan's an awesome instructor! He's patient, friendly, and open to helping you learn whatever style of guitar playing you'd like. And really flexible and understanding with scheduling. I hadn't played guitar in years when I started back up with Dylan and he was great and informative with helping me through the basics again.

Dylan does an excellent job of helping his students achieve their specific goals. When I started taking lessons with him I was only able to play basic rock rhythm guitar. We've moved onto lead playing and more advanced music theory. I can play solos by Tony iommi and frank zappa fluidly now.

My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life.

The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument then you've stopped growing musically. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and concepts.

I've been taking lessons from Chris for 2 months now. He's exceptional in his teaching methods and makes each lesson enjoyable. I'm a beginner and learning my first chorded song. He's been excellent at taking his time and breaking the song down to where I feel comfortable playing.
He's easily reached by email, and has sent me audio files of himself playing the song we're working on to help me with my practice. I leave my lessons pumped and excited to play. I highly recommend him!!

nny Davis, Steve Williams, and Radam Schwartz. Most recently, Peter Lin performed at Slide Hampton's 85th Birthday with Steve Turre, Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid, and Victor Lewis. With various groups of all musical genres, he has performed at venues and festivals including The Clifford Brown Festival, The Riverview Jazz Festival, The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, Duke's Southern Table, Zinc Bar, and Swing 46. Most people struggle with music theory due to overloading their brain with memorization and other processes of elimination. However, the one thing that's never taught on this subject (even inside Juilliard), is common sense. Above all, music theory is rooted in common sense.
