Music theory distills and analyzes the fundamental parameters or elements of music, €”rhythm, harmony (harmonic function), melody, structure, form, and texture. It helps better understand what is played and how certain functions affect the certain musical compositions.

About Peter
I am energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils, an expert at identifying the appropriate resources required for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.

I posses an extensive classical music and music pedagogy training. All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging required for music colleges. I especially
find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.

The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.

*** Lesson Details ***
The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs.

With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.

Classes are not based on a single source or book. I provide other exercises in printed form for students to keep and take home.

Peter got right down to business and it is clear he knows what he is doing. My son is 5 and Peter kept his attention for the full 30 minutes, which is really saying something. At the end of the first lesson, my son was introduced to and could repeat note names; could play a five-note scale; and was learning his right hand from his left. I myself went to Juilliard and Yale for music and am so pleased Peter will be teaching our child(ren).

I have a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance along with a Master's Degree in Education and have performed on stages around the world including Carnegie Hall in NYC, Canterbury Cathedral an Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. For more than ten years, I have taught both in private voice studios and have instructed students in public schools as well and am a certified Educator in the state of New Jersey.

I teach students of ALL AGES to sing with correct vocal technique including breath support, tone, pitch, posture and more! The "Bel Canto" style of singing is taught in all cases no matter what style of music. This means that the voice should be free from tension, stress and strain! Learn to sing Rock, Jazz, Classical,
Broadway/Musical Theater and any other vocal style!

Many, many of my students have gone on to place in the renowned Bergen County, North Jersey Regional, and All State Choruses and consistently receive leading roles in school, community, and regional theater productions! I also have current and past students who have gone on to have roles on Broadway including an upcoming production of Annie! I've also had students who have gone on to have their rock and heavy metal bands place in local and regional band competitions and be signed!

Whether you want to learn how to sing Karaoke better, audition for American Idol, prepare for auditions, or really seriously work on your vocal technique, i'm the teacher for you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Our lessons will be filled with music, support, encouragement and success! I teach to the whole student and we will get to know one another well so I can tailor your lesson specifically to your needs, goals and dreams! By taking lessons, you are taking an amazing step to improve not only your skills as a performer but also your self esteem! When you become better at an instrument or your voice improves so will your outlook! Its a natural fit!

Within 3-6 months, you'll have learned many standard warm-ups and vocalises that you can have in your back pocket for any opportunity that comes your way. If you are a singer, you will have learned how to breathe correctly for singing and implemented great technique into the style music of your choice. You will also have learned quite a few songs, starting from simple to more advanced as we go along!

For the beginner piano student, we will begin understanding basic Music Theory and scales. We will work on finger position and learn basic tunes starting with one hand at a time. soon you'll be learning how to play simple songs with both hands and accompany yourself as you sing along!

For singers, we'll learn about vocal techniques, breathing, relaxation and getting your best vocal sound and discovering how to perform a song with great diction and presence! We'll also learn performance techniques, how to work with a microphone, have a great stage presence in front of a live audience and begin learning how to read music and even get familiar with the piano keyboard!

All of my current students will say that they enjoy our lessons because each one is tailored to the individual and their goals. Its a wonderful and exciting journey that we embark upon together! I love seeing my students progress and learn over the course of our time together!

I encourage all of my students to get out and perform and i'm ALWAYS looking for opportunities for my students to do just that (unpaid AND paid!). Since music is a performing art I try to schedule two recitals a year with my students. These recitals are completely optional (but encouraged!) and take place in a local church hall or other performing space. They are done is a low stress and fun way ...and afterwards, i always provide some sweet treats for the parents and students that attend! Its a super fun way to display how hard my students have been working! Each student leaves the recital with their name and piece in a printed program and a certificate!

My studio is located in a safe, family home on a quiet street with ample street parking. The home is a smoke-free environment. We have a cute little Shih Tzu but not to worry if you have any allergies. He stays in his house downstairs and away from the studio and he never enters the studio room.

Let's make some music!

I am an older student, (and by older I mean 71 Years old...) . SO I have
experience with many different kinds of teachers during school days, nursing school days and university days....
I recently decided to try to learn to play the piano.
Marnie is a patient, kind, skilled and wise teacher. she is always pleasant, knows her subject and is very positive while reminding me of the ins and outs of fingering and helps me learn to read music as well. I highly recommend her as a piano teacher and I am sure Marnie teachers all her subjects very well indeed.
I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity to learn how to play the piano now that I am retired. Marnie encourages me, doesn't let me get away with not
practicing enough, is kind , is pleasant and is a natural teacher who knows her
subject well. I am one lucky older woman to have encouragement from my husband, and to have a super teacher as well.
Marnie also teaches voice for those of you who need voice lessons
Thanks for asking!

I Studied with many great harmony teachers on both coasts of the United States. I have studied Classical theory for 3 years, Orchestration for 2 years, and jazz theory for 5. It is my pleasure to help students go from theory to practice.

About John
Hello,

Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me.

Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me, but it will last your entire lifetime. I hope that all of your life you will have a rewarding relationship to music and the spirit of great sounds!

I have performed in great jazz clubs in New York, on Broadway, and performing arts centers across the country. I'm currently playing in many great performing ensembles. I have put out two CD's as a leader and played on multiple CD's for other artists.

It has been my pleasure to teach privately, as well as in the classroom for 15 years. I enjoy performing many different types of music. I pri
de myself on being very open minded in terms of musical taste. Never apologize for liking what you like! I bet there is something in that music which is great. I can't wait to learn something from the music you introduce to me.

I be glad to provide a full resume to anyone who requests it.

*** Lesson Details ***

My most important goal for each student is that they get to where they want to be musically.

I want the student to be able to play the way he or she wants to play. If you want to learn to play one song, that is great! If you want to learn to play one classical etude that is just as great! If you want to learn how to play in a salsa band, bravo! I treat the desires of my students as my curriculum. Each student will receive special prep time from me each week. I pride myself in taking the time and energy to prepare for each meeting. Every time you complete a lesson, it is my hope that you are walking away as a better musician.

In the beginning I hope to find what will musically interests you the most. Usually, you might have a goal that requires you to play on a higher level than you do presently. If that is true, we might take some time to figure out a road map to get you to that place. Along the way, I'm sure you and I will learn many new concepts and techniques that aid you in becoming the bassist/musician you want to be.

And rest assured, the teacher always learns from the student...this is the best part of teaching: learning from the student.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Studio: 3 electric basses, plenty of amps and chords, one acoustic bass, piano, ukulele, guitar, computer playback and recording.

*** Travel Equipment ***
As requested

*** Specialties ***
I have been lucky to play tons of different types of music. I believe I can give musicians and aspiring musicians a deep understanding of what is most important in many different styles of music. Music I have been lucky enough to study and play professionally: Jazz, Rock, Funk, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Blues, Classical, Pop.
I'm also a very good transcriber, so if there is a song you heard on the radio we can definitely play it! Ear training could be an area in which I could be of service to you as well.
I have many arranging and composing credits and I would be glad to help students in this area whenever requested.

Love my lessons

John is an amazing teacher all around. Very professional and good at getting me to understand things which may be a bit confusing. I am currently reading and playing between four books and I never thought it would be possible especially just after taking lessons for a year. Sometimes I feel a bit frustraited when I am not able to play certain pieces or when I dont understand a concept but John is great at breaking everything down and making it easier. I am now realizing how my piano skills can be utilizied in my other music projects. When I attend my lessons I am reminded why I love having them so much. With him as my instructor I can see my skills improving and I know I will only get better. I recommend piano lessons to everyone and if you are looking to have a great teacher John is your go to person !

Music theory include a lot of different subjects: theory, harmony , ear training, music dictation, music structures, composition. I am going to teach, whatever student want to study and, of course, it depends on student level. For example, if the student does not know theory, he (she) can not learn harmony and so on. I was teaching all theory subjects in college and music schools for a long time. I have very good experience.

About tamara
I started to play piano when I was 6 years old. After I finished music school, I continued to study music in junior college and finally in Gnesins' Academy of Music. While I was studying, I started to work as a pianist in Drama Theater and as an accompanist for singers, violinist and cellist in different music schools. After i've got my Master degree in Gnesins' Academy of Music, I started to work as a teacher in college. I am teaching in US since 1991. I was working as a piano and music theory teacher in music schools and my private studio. I am using traditional method and, of course, I have individual approach to each student, because everyone is so special and goals are very different. Most of my students take NYSSMA and have the highest scores. What unite all my students - love to music.

My children have been taking piano lessons with Tamara since 2005. Both started when they were 6 years old. She is amazing! Tamara is SO knowledgeable and has a gift for teaching. She is a serious teacher and has pushed my children to reach their fullest potential. She has always done so with understanding and kindness though. They love her. I travel more than 1/2 hour each way for their lessons but it is definitely worth it! My children have progressed much more quickly than their peers studying with other piano teachers. They have been exposed to pieces from various composers and studied music theory as well. Both have taken several NYSSMA exams and they've both scored at the highest level on every one. My daughter has already completed all 6 levels. My son is 13 years old and planning to take level 5 next Spring. I would HIGHLY recommend her for students of all levels and ages. She can teach the beginner as well as the more advanced. She has also been VERY flexible with lesson days and times. [working around my son's busy sports schedule]. She is a treasure in Glen Cove!

I received A's in my music theory classes during college and I've thoroughly resonated with this area of music. When progressing to the next level of musicianship, a solid understanding of music theory is necessary to solidify your presence in the world of music. I can take you to that next level with methods that have worked for many.

About Michael
When helping students, it my belief that patience and belief in the student's abilities are of utmost importance. With this in mind, I am here to guide you through your stumbling blocks and propel you to another level of understanding that makes things a lot clearer for you.

I have experience tutoring students from high school to college level. At different times in my life I acquired two bachelors degrees; one in music, the other in biochemistry. It is important for you to know that I take your education seriously but it can be interspersed with a little humor; not too much, but enough to keep things interesting.

In addition to helping students, I have worked as a professional freelance musician and as a research biochemist. Whether it be one on one or in a group setting, my experiences have taught me to be very patient, flex
ible, and accommodating, I have provided music lessons to promising young musicians in addition to training graduate students.

Whether you be a traditional high school student or a non-traditional adult student, my ultimate goal is to help you gain a better understanding of your material with patience and encouragement in a safe learning environment. Let's get you on the road to some awesome grades. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better student.
