About Adam

A graduate of the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Music and Psychology and trained at renowned National Guitar Workshop, Adam is an experienced teacher and performer on the guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass in a variety of styles, including rock, pop, jazz, classical, and folk. Adam loves to share his passion for music with others, and ever since his first student, an autistic child, Adam has sought to make learning music fun, regardless of age, style, and ability.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching music is strictly an individualized one, catering to the specific interests and goals of each student. I believe that if learning music is truly enjoyable and fun, students will develop a sincere love for their instrument. In teaching children, my emphasis is on instilling in them a love of music. While progressing in mus

ic obviously requires preparation outside of lessons, I consciously avoid asking students to practice. Instead, I incorporate the music and styles that appeal most to the student and use them as vehicles for teaching concepts.

I strive to make learning music fun, regardless of age, style, and ability. I organize an annual recital to showcase my students' talents and hard work.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide all music and instructional materials, and ask that students provide a clean, quiet area to hold our lesson, ideally with a music stand. I also ask that a student provide their own instrument. If providing an instrument is not possible, I ask that the student notify me so I can provide an instrument for them in the interim.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in a wide range of styles on the acoustic and electric guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass.

I explain music theory in a fun, clear, and articulate manner and show its benefits and application in song writing, learning music, and playing by ear. My extensive background in rock, classical, pop, folk, and jazz allows for a truly cater my instruction to my student's tastes.

I make it my mission to structure my lessons on my student's goals and interests and avoid imposing concepts that don't interest my students.

Adam is a teacher par excellence. I am self taught from a well known book. I was doing well I thought until I got stuck. Adam gently showed me where I erred and made great suggestions for me to move on correctly. I never felt rushed or “ put down.” Adam was patient, open for questions, encouraging, comforting. I know I need much help to correct and advance in guitar from matters such as tuning, restringing, reading, and other things too many to write about. I look forward to my next lesson with enthusiasm.

Adam is prompt, professional and patient. He allows you to learn at your own pace and makes lessons fun by teaching popular songs.

Music has many different elements that comprise it. These include but are not limited to: pitch, pulse, rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, arrangement, timbre/color, expressive qualities (dynamics and articulation), and form or structure. From these basic building blocks, all theoretical material that can be studied has come to be. This material when understood and employed can further your growth as a musician exponentially, and can assist you in writing music, sight-reading, as well as virtually any creative activity involving music.

About Jonathan

Hi! I'm Dr. Jonathan Saraga; professional musician and educator living in New York City. I have been working as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and studio musician for almost 2 decades and have been teaching full-time for the past 7, which includes nearly 3 at the University level. I have nearly 10 years of conservatory training, a Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degree, as well as over 20 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level.

I’ve been recognized internationally, by way of several organizations for excellence as a trumpeter and composer: 2007-Winner of International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2009-Finalist in Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2011- Selected Participant in School for Improvisational Music Intensive Program; 2014-Callback for the Juil

liard Artist Diploma program auditions; 2015-Selected Participant in Banff International Summer Intensive Program in Jazz and Creative Music ; 2016-Semi Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-Recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award; 2017-Honorable Mention and Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-19-Full Scholarship w/ Paid Assistantship/Instructorship for Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder; 2019-Selected Participant in Banff Early Fall Musicians in Residence program; 2019-Finalist in Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works Grant Competition.

I perform and record as a featured musician with Festival of New Trumpet Music, having participated in two world premieres, and in ensembles led by highly acclaimed and/or Grammy-nominated/winning artists such as Steve Coleman, Henry Cole, Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Orrin Evans, Josh Evans, Jimmy Greene, Tyshawn Sorey, Eric Bergen and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. I've performed at arenas, clubs, and concert halls alike, such as Carnegie Hall, The Putra World Tower, Symphony Space, the Barclay's Center, Dizzy's Club Coco-Cola, and Rockefeller Center to name only a few venues. As a leader, I've been performing original music all over NYC at known creative and jazz venues like Seeds, Cornelia St. Café, The Bar Next Door, Jazz at the Kitano, Shapeshifter Lab and Smalls Jazz Club, which Down Beat magazine considers to be two of the best jazz clubs in the world.

Besides professing a passion and skill-set for music within the ‘jazz’ idiom, my interest in and usage of sound draws from and many other forms of art. I've composed and arranged music for lyricists, improvised music for poetry readings at the Firehouse Space, and have provided musical accompaniment for dance classes, workshops, and performances presented by the Martha Graham Dance Academy and the Jeoffrey Ballet School. I've even co-choreographed short plays and have played for Marc Jacobs fashion runway shows.

My music also extends into the health and wellness community. I've served as a regular performer at the New Life Expo, and as a musical aid for art exhibitions (including a Syrian-post war realist art exhibition), Yoga classes at Jivamukti Jersey City, and meditation classes for WeWork, St. Peter's Church at the Citicorp Center, The Tibet House, Triskelion Arts the Firehouse Space, the Jewish Community Center, the New York Insight Meditation Center, and the NYU Skirball Theater.

As an educator, I have taught all-level/all-age group music playing and appreciation courses for several New York-based organizations: The Afro-Latin Jazz Academy, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, New York Ensemble Classes, the Lyceum Kennedy International School, Jubilee Enrichment Programs, Jazz Empowers and The New York Jazz Academy. I have also completed 6 semesters of service as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I taught multiple playing ensembles as well as three semesters of a 100+ student History of Jazz lecture class for non-majors.

I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more.

While I specialize in the following broad areas of musical study, my specialties are not limited to: General Music, Composition, Arranging, Ear Training, Music History (includes classical, jazz, and world musics), Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet, flugelhorn, and Piano/Keyboards.

Last but not least, while I have invested over 30,000 hours into my musical training, my interests, practices, and skill sets extend beyond sound and visual art, and into the realm of philosophy, science, physics and spirituality. I have been practicing various forms of fitness, meditation and Yoga for the past 5 years, and my studies span the gamut of psychology, philosophy, calisthenics, Astral Projection, Reiki, Vipassana Meditation, Visualization, and much more.

I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music, the arts, as well as my physical, mental and spiritual pursuits, I have realized that discipline, creative flow, and love for what one is and what one does can come together and yield great fulfillment and sense of purpose.

I look forward to being a part of your journey!

I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

Discussion of harmonic function of different chords, through examples using tunes; Study of different scales coming from Major, Minor, Harmonic Minor and Melodic Minor.

About Fabrizio

Fabrizio Sciacca was born on May 25, 1990 in Catania, Italy. His interest in music began at a young age, when his father would play him his favorite records. At 14 years old, Fabrizio started playing electric bass, studying with a local teacher in his hometown.
After graduating high school, he began his law studies at Catania University only to realize within the year that his true passion was music. He promptly applied to Berklee College of Music in 2011 and was accepted with a scholarship.
During his four years at Berklee, Fabrizio studied with renowned professors: John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, and Victor Bailey. While there, he performed with a variety of ensembles in many venues of Boston, such as Wally's (famous jazz club where many jazz icons like Charlie Parker performed).
Upon completing his undergrad degree in Electric

and Double Bass Performance in 2015, Fabrizio moved to New York. He began studying with bass legend Ron Carter while earning a Master’s Degree in Performance and Composition from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in 2018.
Since moving to New York, Fabrizio has collaborated and shared the stage with some of the best musicians on the scene including Harry Allen, Billy Drummond and Joe Magnarelli. He has also performed in many well-known jazz clubs in the City like Fat Cat, Mezzrow, Shapeshifter, and Minton's.
In June 2019, Fabrizio was awarded the Welcome Back Tony Scott award, a prestigious recognition given to talented musicians by the city of Salemi, Italy, to honor the memory of the great clarinet player Tony Scott. During the same time, he performed with the Edo Ferragamo Project at the GruVillage Festival (Grugliasco, Italy) and Valmontone Summer Festival (Valmontone, Italy), opening for the Italian dates of Anastacia's summer tour.
Currently, Fabrizio continues to learn from his mentor, Ron Carter. He has also released his debut record Gettin' It There with Billy Drummond on drums, Donald Vega on piano, and Jed Levy on saxophone. With all these accomplishments and tireless nature, Fabrizio Sciacca is determined to make himself a fixture of the international jazz community.

Private Music Theory Teacher

I have had a very solid foundation in Music Theory. If you would like to better your understanding of the function of music, or if you are enrolled in a Music Theory course and need tutoring, I would be happy to help.

About Lyle

I am a professional singer, pianist, and teacher of the two. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University Long Beach, and a Master of Music degree from University of California Los Angeles. During my study of those two degrees, I had marvelous teaching from some of the finest pianists, coaches, and voice teachers around. I can teach you how to sing with true passion, ease, and intent.

I began my study of the piano at the age of 7, my mother being my first teacher. I started on Alfred Piano Books, and still strongly believe in that same curriculum. From there I began to study classical composers like Chopin, Beethoven, Clementi, and Mozart. Although my love of classical music runs deep to my core, I love jazz, pop, and gospel music. I am happy to assist the learning of any style, anything that YOU are passionate for

. :)

With me, you can expect to make weekly progress in your instrument of choice. I am a dedicated performer and an even more dedicated teacher. To me, the two go hand in hand.

Please allow me the opportunity in teaching you and in turn I will give you all the knowledge I possess.

I can’t recommend Lyle highly enough. He is an amazing teacher for my 14 year old son who is prepping for school play auditions. He helped choose material and has many technical suggestions to sing better without being intimidating. He also is patient, warm and encouraging. Very pleased we found him.

Lyle has a singing voice that will stun and amaze you when he sings in front of you. That will immediately put you at ease and motivate you to sing better using his techniques. His classical training has proven to be a great foundation for teaching me effective ways to understand, use and improve my voice. After 2 lessons I can already see a big difference in my singing abilities and I always learn many new things at each lesson. Lyle has a really open, friendly and non judgemental demeanor and this helped a lot with my nervousness. I can't wait for my next private lesson and would encourage anyone to book him for Broadway, classical and pop singing lessons.

Lyle taught my two kids for 3 years. They loved him! My son took piano and voice lessons each week, 30mins of the two, and my daughter took only piano lessons. I can't recommend him enough!

Private Music Theory Teacher

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- if you know your theory, you know the best way to express your idea without having to think about it
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

About David

I am a bass player first, not a guitarist who also teaches bass. Students will learn technique, theory and groove from a teacher who understands that as bass players, we are in a unique position. Since bass is both a harmony and rhythm instrument we have the opportunity to develop into leaders in a way other instrumentalists don't. I will encourage students interested in exploring this aspect of their instrument

I have a degree in jazz performance from The Ohio State University and have played in numerous rock, jazz and off-broadway bands over the last 20 years. Now playing is something I do primarily for fun and my #1 goal is always that my students have as much fun playing as I do

David went over basic music theory and rhythm with me, and corrected some technique issues. He explained things clearly and when we put some of it into practice in the final minutes I saw instant results. Absolutely excited to do my homework and for my next lesson.

As a beginning, self-taught bass player of four months, I wanted to find a teacher who could analyze and critique my playing. I scheduled five lessons with David over a time period of three months. David was instrumental in analyzing and critiquing bad techniques and habits I acquired. He very thoroughly emphasized proper fretting technique and finger positioning; exercises were given that helped me obtain full tonal quality and efficient fretboard navigation skills. We also reviewed basic theory, scale modes, rhythmic weight, pentatonics and arpeggios; seminal knowledge for the beginner.

A technical type player, David has excellent playing skills as well as a comprehensive knowledge of theory and its practical application. He is a good listener and showed a genuine interest in helping me achieve my goals. I definitely can see an improvement in my playing skills....playing more confidently and efficiently.

Highly recommended.......

David has really tailored our lessons for what I was interested in doing. We are working on technique, musicianship and jazz. He was able to assess quickly where I was at with my skill set and pin point ideas and exercises to help me improve. I'm eager to keep on studying with him!

I studied Music Theory since I was in High school. To some it does take a while to grasp. There is classical theory and there is also modern/contemporary theory which differ. There are music charts and scores. There is reading and writing music. There is harmony. We will learn and practice these things and get you on your way to becoming a pro.

About Leah

Leah, a teacher, singer/songwriter, musician, entertainer and Berklee College of Music graduate.

She loves teaching and loves her students. Her main joy in teaching is watching her students grasp a new understanding and appreciation for their desired art and growing in their skills and talent. She loves seeing her students overcome obstacles. In her lessons, Leah sets the tone for care and a safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, she covers setting a foundation, different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. She focusses on a few things at a time and has her students grow into other areas to work.

"I have been taking theory/harmony lessons with Mr. Joseph Nikita for 4 years now and couldn't be any more satisfied with his teaching style.
Mr. Nikita
takes the complex concepts of music harmony and breaks them down to the point where they become easy to understand, retain, and apply to my homework and compositions.
One thing I much admire in Mr. Nikita's teaching is the variability in his explanations. I don't prefer learning in a lecture-style environment (where the teacher lectures and the student takes notes), so Mr. Nikita takes each topic and explains it in multiple ways - using real-life applications and examples. This helps me obtain a clear understanding of each lesson - making it easy to go in depth in music harmony."

"I am extremely happy with my first five lessons. I feel that my instruction is individualized well to my short term goals, which is to develop a solid
theoretical foundation that enables me to understand compositional approaches and methodologies and prepare me to create my own compositions and arrangements. Currently the format of our lesson is to analyze/discuss a piece in detail with a compositional or arrangement exercise to reinforce the main techniques of the piece. (which is reviewed at the subsequent lesson). The exchange of ideas (as well as the exercises) have resulted in me learning something fun and interesting every single lesson. I highly recommend Jaxon as a music theory instructor."

He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!"
