I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Playing the violin is easy, once you realize that it is a kind of singing! Although it has perhaps the most complicated technique of any instrument, it is simple once you understand the focus of the technique.

About Stephen
I have been playing music on the violin since the age of 7, composing since I was 14, and playing and performing on the guitar since I was 18. I've written a lot of music, and this past spring had works performed in Virginia and two in Manhattan.

I have taught music for over 15 years, in colleges, music schools and privately. One thing that I have noticed is that, with more experience, I have a lot more fun--and so do my students.

I teach beginner and intermediate violin students helping them develop their bow technique and intonation.

About Yoon Jae
I am a highly-skilled professional musician certified as a certified Steinway education partner with over 14 years of teaching experience. I offer lessons in classical piano, violin, viola, conducting, arranging/orchestration as well as private tutoring in ear training and theory.

My main instrument is piano and I specialize in teaching students who already play the instrument and wish to get a more in-depth experience with piano literature by learning new repertoire and developing their technique. I also teach adult beginners and young beginners whose parents have a dedicated commitment to having their children make music an integral part of their education. For all my students, I emphasize the importance of practicing efficiently and developing critical listening skills. This encourages consistent improvement and whatever your perso
nal piano goals and skill levels are, I will help you improve and enjoy playing the piano more. I am very patient, encouraging and supportive of your desire to play the piano better. In addition to piano, I teach beginner and intermediate violin and viola students.

I encourage all my students to perform once or twice a year but this is entirely optional and based on the student's comfort level.

I am available and willing to travel to your home for an extra fee as long as public transportation is available.

I'm so glad I ended up with Yoon Jae for my very first violin lesson. He took me through the first steps - as basic as holding the violin - really carefully and not at all condescendingly, even though I'm an adult who never even learned to read music. In fact, he couldn't have been more patient. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to learn violin in a supportive atmosphere!

I mentor my students with passion, love, and vigor and accept all students ranging from beginners to advanced students. My only requirement is that the student be hardworking in order to meet my standards. I have been a classical musician for 10 years and will ensure that my students are improving at a quick and steady pace and that they too will be successful.

About Eunice
Born and raised in America, Korean-American violinist Eunice has been a classical musician for 10 years. She has a deep-rooted passion for teaching serious students and teaches with promise, diligence, and love. Although she is currently a high school student, she is also a senior at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-college division, and has studied under several renown professors, including (but are not limited to) Xiao Wang (Queen Elisabeth Competition finalist and Curtis graduate), and Elizabeth Chang (Juilliard pre-college professor).

Eunice is willing to put extra time and effort to ensure her students their quick and steady improvement and nurture her students to the best of her abilities in order to help them succeed. She has created many recordings and won several awards, including the New York International Competition of YW
CA, American Protege Competition, the NJIO Concerto Competition, the NJMTA Young Musician Competition, and a couple community service awards.

Since age 12 she has performed in many different summer festivals, including the Saarburg Music Festival in Germany, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the Manhattan in the Mountains intensive summer camp, and made her official debut on stages including Merkin Hall and Carnegie Hall. Although Eunice is currently a student, she never fails to teach with vigor and a good heart. "If the student is a hard worker," she explains. "Then I will naturally be twice as hardworking. I'm that crazy teacher that will phone her student at 6am to make sure he or she is practicing." Eunice accepts beginner students through advanced students. Please contact her for further concerns or inquiries.

Students of all ages and abilities learn at their own pace. Wherever the student is in their musical journey, I ensure solid technique is matched with artistic excellence in their musical pursuits. Building refined technique means being able to focus on the true reason for playing - the pure fun and enjoyment of music!

About Rachel
I am a classically trained professional violinist. I graduated with my Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Fredonia and received my Master of Music degree from The University of Akron. I have also completed coursework for my Master in Arts Administration.

While in school, I took classes on pedagogy and truly enjoyed learning how to teach. I maintained a studio, taught non-music majors, and worked as a substitute violin/viola teacher in local music academies. I have taught students as young as 6 to students exploring music in their retirement. It is a rewarding challenge to be able to find the key or missing link in the pursuit for artistry.

I believe it is essential to be a well rounded individual no matter what the career goals are set. Music has been proven to be a great skill to pursue. When I meet new students, I want to learn not o
nly where they are musically with their instrument but also what other interests the student may have. Having wide and varied interests personally, being able to tie in the similarities to encourage ease of learning was essential to me.

My students can expect scales, etudes, and repertoire assignments based on their skill level. It is expected that students will practice throughout the week to see the most improvement.
