As everyone is different with different goals, ages, and levels of proficiency so to is my method of instruction for each individual... Beginners will expect to quickly begin enjoying the instrument without intimidation by it ... they will learn... 1. Proper left and right hand, arm, and body positioning. 2. Proper (not common !) pick grip and angles. 3. Strongly "suggested" reading of music. 4. How to play notes and first position chords. 5. Rhythm focus to play along with all previously listed to some of their favorite songs... An intermediate to advanced Classical student may expect a doses of technique, sight reading, and theory within a particular lesson for say, ABRSM exam prep.. An Intermediate to Advanced Blues, Rock, or Shred student may expect more focus on scale and arpeggio applications for improvisation.

Had a great first lesson with Don. I believe I will progress nicely under his tutelage. Already have a lot to work on.

Years ago I took Guitar Lessons at a local music store ( a very prominent one) as a raw beginner and quickly became frustrated with my lack of progress. Although my teacher was a great player and "very hot" to look at I soon began to feel like I was merely his "practice dummy."... I'd play the chords he showed me, endlessly,... while he seemed to be just practicing his solo playing. ... I then tried On-Line Lessons from various sites which were actually even less helpful and soon just lost interest completely.
A friend of mine said she had taken lessons from a Don DeBold for about 5 years before going off to college and highly recommended him.
I've now been taking lessons from Don for almost 2 years and having a blast ! I've learned how to play along with most of my favorite songs (mainly Blues and Rock) and now I'm learning to play Solo Guitar that needs no accompaniment !
Unlike my first teacher, during many lessons Don barely plays or even has his Strat on his lap because he's busy concentrating on what I'm doing !
He's a stickler yet lots of fun at the same time> I super recommend him as a Guitar and Music Teacher !!! Aneiah J.

Guitar is my main squeeze. I love to help people enjoy the instrument as much as I do. learn to shred a rock solo, fingerpick a folk song, or transcribe miles davis. learn to play what you hear on records without resorting to you tube instructional videos (wink). or if you are already an accomplished musician, enhance your ability to employ techniques like chord weaving on the guitar, craft better solos, write more sophisticated chord progressions, etc

Indigo is a fantastic teacher! I've taken lessons with Indigo both online (recently) and in-person (when I used to live in NYC). Indigo's teaching style really resonated with me - she provides incredible support and encouragement for beginners and her instruction has always helped me understand the weird nuances of singing and how to unlock my voice. She has also helped me with more advanced music theory/guitar during lesson to compliment the singing and help with songwriting. She also makes the online format work really well (which I can't imagine is easy) and I've always felt like the online lessons were as valuable/productive as the in-person lessons I took before I moved.

I have been self-taught for a couple years and felt very stuck, learning disjointed online material, but Indigo has absolutely put me on a musical path! It feels really empowering to finally start having a grasp on theory and technique. I highly recommend.

All elements of acoustic and electric guitar to the masters level. Blues, jazz and improvisation are my specialty. I teach all styles and from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. I have vast depth and knowledge of blues and application. I am also a masterful slide guitarist and teach that skill also.

Paul's enthusiasm for the bass is infectious and a great motivator. I actually feel like I may be able to learn to play! In just one lesson I learned more than 5 hours of You Tube tutorials could have taught me.

Great Teacher

I played a little guitar throughout my life but was lacking an understanding of how the instrument works. I found myself strumming a few cords here and there but never with focus or improvement. After only three lessons with Paul, I'm now jamming to rock and the blues!Paul was quickly able to access my level of playing and I'm now understanding how the fretboard works and most importantly having lots of fun during lessons and practice. He teaches with passion and doesn't simply open a book but rather instills his lifelong experience and philosophy into lessons. Many can teach the mechanics of guitar but with Paul, you'll also understand the soul.

Paul Rocks !!

I just had my 2nd lesson with Paul and felt inspired to write a review. I have wanted to learn guitar for many, many years now. In the past, I have always gotten frustrated -or bored- and gave up before I ever even learned a chord. Our 1st lesson, Paul started me with some very basic mechanics. It was just the right amount of information to keep me interested and challenged but not so much that I was overwhelmed the 1st week. From just 15 -30 minutes a day of practicing, I have already gained some flexibility in my fingers and am beginning to have a "feel" for the instrument. I have seen more improvement and learned more from Paul and the exercises he has given me in just 2 lessons than I have collectively ever learned from any other teacher in the past or any book or online tutorial. His knowledge of the instrument, as well as music theory, is vast and he knows how to break it down into digestible bits for maximum benefit to the student. So I am not only learning to play guitar, I am also being introduced to music theory in a very easy to understand manner. He is very patient and creates a safe and supportive environment in which to learn comfortably. I am SO glad I found him!!! His way of teaching really works or me ~ I feel hopeful, inspired and motivated for the first time ever in attempting to learn this instrument. Thank you Paul and Thank You Take Lessons !!

As with any instrument or art, you have to start somewhere and put work into. There are no shortcuts. However, a good instructor can quickly recognize what you wish to learn, zone in on those areas, and most importantly allow you the desire to keep play more. This type of guidance is the “shortcut”. For myself, I have 18+ years playing electric/acoustic guitar I have also attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA playing with other musicians and learning from the best instructors.

Beginner level: we have to start with positioning of you fret and pick hand. You can change a bit of this up later. To start, I might hear you play something: one note, a melody, or a riff just to see where you’re at. Starting from scratch? That’s perfectly fine.

We will work on two aspects: working towards playing single note melodies and strumming/learning basic chords. I would encourage learning the latter as pretty much all contemporary songs can be accompanied by rhythm guitar. Changing ...

"I am 38 years old and I had started to try to learn guitar on my own for a few months before I started taking lessons with Jeff. I had gotten frustrated with just using a book and the internet and was very impressed when I met Jeff. He took the time to get to know what I wanted to learn and how. He always listens to me and tailors our sessions to what is best. He can actually see the things that he knows I will struggle with and will give the advance "pep talk" to me to not get discouraged when I try to practice. He takes the time to watch me play very closely so that he can give me advice on how to better my hand positioning and finger movements (and I need that!).

And that's just Jeff's interaction with me. In addition to that, he is a great musician. He can hear everything and can write down the chords of a song he never before in only a few minutes. He can play almost anything just by ear. He also knows music theory and was able to help answer my questions in that area. He also guided me towards some theory and scale books since I showed extra interest in that.

In terms of personality, Jeff is very patient and kind. He cares about what he does and he cares about his students. He knows what it's like to face the challenges of learning an instrument. He was even gracious enough to spend his time helping me to pick out my first electric guitar (I had been using just an acoustic). In additional to that, he is ALWAYS on time for lessons and spends that extra few minutes when he can.

I would highly recommend Jeff for guitar lessons!"

John has a teaching presence, especially with children, which is amazing; he is patient, enthusiastic and very encouraging. As a professional musician, he knows his trade and he has the uncanny ability to share his knowledge in a way that makes perfect sense.

I would recommend John as an instructor for any, and all, levels of instruction."

"My son started with piano than decided he wanted to play guitar. He's been with Daniel fot over a year and half and has learned a lot. One of the things I wanted for my son to learn is to be able to learn to play by ear. Not only has Daniel helped with the process of learning by ear, but my son can transpose guitar onto piano. He works great with children and allows them to bring the type of music the child wants to lear, which may conceive of music in games and other social media. He is very understanding when lessons had to be rescheduled. My son wanted to take a break from lessons so he could focess on completing the 8th grade where he was 3rd in his class by .0178%. He did receive the highest school honor and achievement, the school Principal award. Daniel inthralled the emphasis of practicing dailey so he can achieve the goal he wants. I don't pressure my son to play guitar, he does because he wants too, and Daniel is one those teachers who enjoys their craft and works well with young children, and he can't wait to return to taking lessons with Daniel."

5 Reasons My Guitar Might Be My Best Friend

Music can be a very rewarding experience - and a personal one, at that. Most musicians spend a LOT of time with their instrument, often baring their souls in the form of melodies and lyrics. If you treat your guitar like part of the family - or your best friend - you'll relate to what Gresham, OR guitar teacher Ed P. has to say here...   Did you know that some of the old blues players named their guitars?  Some of them were even rumored to sleep with their guitars.  I’m not saying tha …
