I am a classically trained violinist and violist passionate about helping my violin and viola students develop a love for music and for their instrument by way of a solid technical foundation and efficient practicing skills. Though I am most familiar with the Essential Elements and Suzuki lesson books, I am willing to use a different method book should you have one available. I welcome students with special needs, and am thoroughly versed in the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic violin and viola repertoire.

Peter has not only honed my daughter's previous skills, but introduced techniques and music theory that was completely new to her. Peter has sought out music that will challenge and interest my daughter specifically. We've been very pleased.
Brian
Peter is an extremely patient and knowledgeable teacher; it has been a privilege studying the piano and cello with him for the past 2 months. In that brief time, I have completed 16 of the 17 pieces in the first Suzuki book for cello! I have also enjoyed the piano exercises and repertoire he has assigned, which are technical but melodious. He has a great understanding of theory and technique; he is very personable and encouraging; and he was flexible and accommodating about the times and modes (in person and online) for my lessons. I recommend him wholeheartedly to other adult beginners like me and am grateful to be under his tutelage.

I have been teaching children of all age groups to acquire a solid foundation in violin playing. Whether it be pre-K beginners, or high school students getting ready for college auditions, I will communicate with the students and parents to set a number of goals to achieve.
I also welcome adult students, beginners and amateur enthusiasts alike.

In addition to gaining expertise in the techniques in violin playing, students in my studio will be given opportunities to gain comprehensive music knowledge including theory, sight singing, ear training, and any relevant music history, as the above-mentioned knowledge are indispensable elements in violin playing. Singing and clapping are essential parts of the lesson. When students are equipped with the basics, they can play anything and make the music they want.

About Dongbin

I am a concert soloist, and have given concerts home and abroad. I have previously served as the concertmaster at the Hartt Symphony Orchestra and the Waterbury Chorale. I am also an avid chamber musician with chamber music experience from age of 15 as a member of the Shin Trio. I was appointed as

My son has been taking violin lessons with Dongbin for almost 3 years since he started playing at age 5. Dongbin has been a great teacher, and my son enjoys learning from him. His lessons include not only violin playing, but also clapping rhythms, singing notes, and other exercises that have been effective ways of learning for my son, while keeping him engaged throughout the lesson. Dongbin recognizes my son’s strengths in playing violin, but also identifies the skills and techniques that he should focus on to become a better player and to build a strong foundation as he progresses. He also gives suggestions to help sharpen those skills while practicing at home. We have been very pleased with our experience with Dongbin as our son’s violin teacher.

Positivity and encouragement are the cornerstones of my teaching style! All ages are welcome. Starting with technique and posture, lessons are then customized to include music theory, music history, ear training, and sight reading. I also teach how to effectively practice on your own, so you grow every time you pick up your violin. I can't wait to share my passion for music!

About Alison

I learned to play violin when I was 10 and music remains my greatest passion to this day. I also sing and have performed with several bands, but there's nothing like being part of a full symphony orchestra like I was in school. Alison is a great teacher - she is teaching my daughter violin and had her playing a couple of Christmas songs well after only two months of lessons. She is very focused, but when my daughter doesn't pick up on something right away, she will take a break and switch to something else briefly so they can come back to it later with fresh eyes. In addition to teaching the fundamentals, she usually throws in something fun or advanced (like a trill) once in a while, which keeps my daughter excited about and challenged by her lessons. She's patient, and she also makes the lessons fun. She gives great pointers on how to practice and what things you need to have at home to practice (e.g. music stand, metronome).

I started taking lessons with Jacqueline after having bought a violin and done some practicing on my own for a few months. She was quickly able to formulate lesson plans for me based on my background and experience. She has also been very good about correcting my technique and pushing me to challenge myself, and is always helpful in answering my many questions. Overall she is a very knowledgeable, professional, down-to-earth and friendly instructor.

My 11 year old daughter has studied with Jacqueline for 1.5 years and is really enjoying the process. Jacqueline is a kind and warm teacher which is very encouraging. My daughter wants to practice and improve in order to impress her sweet teacher. We are very happy with lessons with Jacqueline. She even teaches Disney music... not just the classics. She will look for whatever my daughter is interested in playing and then plays with her. I highly recommend her.

Me and J worked together for three years before I went to college and I’m glad she asked me for this review. J is really patient and fun to work with. I mostly wanted to learn movie music and she was cool with that. Good lessons, chill teacher.

Mark Williams's violin teaching is very experienced and professional. He helped prepare my daughter for her county orchestra audition, and she made it! My daughter enjoys the pieces assigned, and his constructive feedback has allowed her to fix bowing technique and other problems. Each lesson is focused on improving and learning new and old skills.
