As a violin teacher, I focus on two core concepts: having an idea of what you want to create musically, and figuring out how to create it. Playing the violin is learning to combine creativity and emotion with logic and practicality. For every piece of music I teach, I guide students to access their inner musical creativity (something I strongly believe everyone has!) in order to have ideas on how they can express the music in an effective and impactful way that makes sense, and to figure out what kinds of emotions they can bring out through the piece. I then give structured step-by-step instruction and guidance to gain the technical abilities and fundamentals needed to bring their ideas to life through the violin.

About Brian

I have been a performer and teacher based in New York since 2005. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, an Artist Diploma from Yale University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Stony Brook University. My experience as a teacher includes having been

I have had many coaches and teachers over the year and often they fell into either of these two categories:
- Very analytical, lot of focus on technical issues, but rather dry and uninspired musically.
- Very emotional and inspiring, wonderful performers themselves. But they struggle to be helpful when I encountered technical roadblocks.

Prof. Bak was the first teacher I have had that somehow managed to have the best of both worlds. An extremely sensitive musician who feels the music deeply and is able to transfer that inspiration to his students; while at the same time, he is incredibly patient and analytical when needed to assist students with their technical issues or musical understanding (such as harmonic structure, or historical background of the pieces).

Absolute gem of a musician/teacher to find!

Dr. Bak taught both of my sons for several years. Every lesson had a goal, and he always gave clear instructions to reach those goals. My sons improved very much from working with him, and came to appreciate music more! He also helped write very helpful recommendation letters for them when they were applying for colleges. Thank you Dr. Bak, you're the best!

I’ve had Mr. Bak as my violin teacher from my elementary school years to now! He explains everything until I clearly understand and I always look forward to the lessons during the week. In the end, the pieces I play always puts a smile on my family and friends. Every year I saw growth and my violin skills improved more and more. I cannot believe how much I have grown from the lessons that I have taken!!

So far, so good: after his first lesson, my son (who has been practicing for a year) seemed to get some really valuable correction to his form. He says it this way: "She's really good at explaining why and how."

Welcome I am Cersilla Wolf and i love playing and teaching the violin. I got my start with this wonderful instrument fall of 2018. I am a self taught violinist. In spring I started classes at metropolitan state university of Denver where I was second violinist in their symphony orchestra. Currently I'm working on my first album as a solo violinist.

About Cersilla

As a teacher I try to make lessons as fun as possible. I understand kids have a short attention span so I create fun games we can play as I teach them core skills to be a successful violinist. "Lauren is an excellent teacher for adult students!

At the age of 54 I decided to purchase a violin and learn to play. I found Lauren Cauley through Takelessons.com and could not be more pleased with her!! She has taught me so much in my first four weeks. She's patient with me and encourages me when I get discouraged with my play. She is quick to answer the numerous questions I have. She is an extremely talented musician with a talent for teaching. She pushes me in my weekly assignments and ensures I've mastered one level before we move to the next. Thanks Lauren!!"

"First lesson was an excellent experience. I did not have a violin and prior to my first lesson, Nikita took me to several places to select a violin and a bow. This was invaluable to me. I love my violin and Nikita helped me get a very good price, more than 35% less than the listed price and about 40% less than what I had budgeted. He tried the violins at the places we went and people would stop what they were doing and watch and listen to his playing. It was so beautiful. I plan to have Nikita as my teacher for years to come."

"Betsy has been my daughters coach for about a year now, and she is wonderful. My daughter has learned so much in the past year, and now she's interested in singing, thanks to Betsy. Betsy has a wonderful spirit, she knows how to communicate on their level, and she makes them feel as though they can do anything. I also like her because she encourages kids to follow their dreams, and to do the right things, and we all know that it takes a village to raise a child. I would highly recommend Betsy!"

"My son Christopher has been taking violin lessons with Alethia for 6 months. He has progressed dramatically in a very short time. I love her teaching techniques. She is positive, super patient, and communicates very effectively with my son. She is also very thorough at teaching proper finger positioning as well as bow techniques. My son has lost almost all of his bad habits. He is finally starting to enjoy playing his violin and now thinks it is fun."
