The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. Peter got right down to business and it is clear he knows what he is doing. My son is 5 and Peter kept his attention for the full 30 minutes, which is really saying something. At the end of the first lesson, my son was introduced to and could repeat note names; could play a five-note scale; and was learning his right hand from his left. I myself went to Juilliard and Yale for music and am so pleased Peter will be teaching our child(ren).

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

My name is Gabrielle A. I am French, in my mid-twenties, and hold a MA in education. Simple, to the point, confident, smiling and fun, I engage quickly and well with those around me.

While teaching a standard violin apprenticeship curriculum, I approach the instrument from the perspective of movement: what qualitative gesture is at play behind a particular stroke or fingering?

Imagine playing violin according to lines of force, directions and qualities of movement between the right and the left! Musical sound, and its higher sibling tone, are born from
the qualitative interplay between right and left meeting in the human chest.
By inwardly experiencing the instrument as a threefold instrument (violin, bow and violinist) we can step away from the view that the violin is 'somewhere out there', a foreign object to be more or less painfully mastered.

I believe that as instrumentalists we ourselves are a part of the tone we produce.
I will therefore look with you at the kinesiology behind a correct posture and encourage you to experience the playing process as a circle between the violin, the bow and the violinist.

Gabrielle is great at teaching my 9 year old french. She makes his lessons fun and keeps him engaged so that he always looks forward to his lessons. She does a great job engaging with the interests of her students, instead of sticking to a rigid lesson plan and losing the student. For example, quietly inserting verb conjugation and tense training into the telling of a story her student is determined to share with her. She really works with the kid's interests and gets their buy-in and engagement.

I am a recent graduate from SUNY Fredonia with a dual degree in Music Education and Violin Performance. I have taught about 10 students between ages 9-12 in my home studio. I have also worked at the Amadeus String shop individually teaching around a dozen beginner students in 2014.
Teaching music is something I absolutely love to do! I believe that creating and discovering music is a gift that everyone should be able to experience and it is never too late to start! Enjoying yourself is my number one goal, then making you the best musician you can be comes afterwards.
At Fredonia I have learned to become viola, cello, bass, and piano proficient so I could teach any student those instruments on a beginner-intermediate level.
I am also an avid performer and fiddler. I have played in my school's symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, and
many chamber ensembles. I have also performed with the Northern-Dutchess Symphony Orchestra, the Orchard Park Symphony, the Warren Philharmonic, the Southern Tier Symphony, and the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra. These are only a few groups I have played with!

I've taught people who were just beginning violin (both children and adults) to students who were working on major concertos. What is most important to me as a teacher is that the student connect with the music and their instrument by being creative and personalizing my approach for the student. I have been surrounded by music my whole life and have played violin for 17 years. I went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory, and am now a Master's student at the Boston Conservatory. I have won competitions, played in professional orchestra gigs, performed with college faculty, soloed with orchestras, and won the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artists Award.

I have completed a pedagogy course in college and at the graduate level. I have taught children, teens, and adults alike. I had the fortune of studying with wonderful teachers and strive to be like them and pass on their wisdom.

I’m an adult learner of violin with a full-time work schedule that frequently goes over 45 hours during slow weeks. I’ve never been what many would musically talented, but the desire to learn an instrument has always been there. Like a lot of people with a full-time schedule and trying to advance their career, it’s hard to carve out time for extracurricular hobbies. On a whim, I decided to learn violin and bought one from Amazon. I quickly realized I was out of my depth. I went looking for an instructor and found Ha-eun on Take Lessons.

She’s a fantastic instructor because she’s always willing to take time to answer questions, change the lesson plan to fit what the student’s needs at that time, and focus on the basics while learning how to play music. There is a lot to know when playing violin and it can feel quite overwhelming. Ha-eun broke down some of these big overwhelming chunks into small comprehensible sizes. There is an art in teaching an instrument without making the process frustrating, and she actively tries to make learning how to play violin easy on the student. The violin is a difficult instrument, especially when you realize there is no frets on it. I think Ha-eun does an excellent job and recommend her as an instructor.
