I am a freelance cellist in NYC which means I get to play music of all styles and genres. I love getting to play and teach all different kinds of music and do not expect my students to learn only one style. The world of music is a vast one and I enjoy getting to explore as much of it as I can

About Eric
Hello! My name is Eric and I've been playing Cello for 19 years. I absolutely love music in all of it's forms. I've had a very diverse career and played music from all over the world and getting to explore the world of music is one of the things I cherish the most. I love getting to pass along my appreciation and love for music to my students.

I have worked in inner City schools in NYC teaching cello classes as well as giving private lessons. As a teaching artist I enjoy getting to travel to upstate NY to work with schools in the Adirondack region. I also have experience teaching adult students of all skill levels.
I am comfortable and experienced teaching people of all ages and experience levels.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any equipment unless the student is without a stand in which case I'll bring one, the only thing I
would require is a chair but that has never been an issue before.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical music in all genres. I've played in multiple orchestras and string quartets as well as playing solo cello for orchestras and recitals. I am also very experienced in world music, pop, rock, etc.

I prefer String Essentials as a teaching aid because it mixes a good amount of exercises with songs and also allows for duets. For the first few lessons I will tune the instrument and talk the student through the process. We always play a warm up scale and song, then we'll work on the decided piece. I love to leave time for the student to ask questions and present possible song interest! Suzuki Method is best for the student who will benefit from consist exercises, but should be used as a guide to full piece performance and structure.

About Janelle
Hello! My name is Janelle L. and I am a Manhattanville College graduate with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a BA in Psychology. As a performer I have appeared in the Off- Broadway productions ANTIGONE and TWELTH NIGHT with Love Creek Theater Company, SHOUT The Mod Musical and SHOWTUNE with direction by Mark Cherry, The Off-Broadway production oF THE EXTRAORDINARY FALL OF THE FOUR LEGGED WOMAN and a solo cabaret at The Metropolitan Room. I currently teach Voice, Piano, Violin, and Cello at The New Windsor School of Music and The Rock Underground of Greenwood Lake. I have learned some of my best lessons from being a performer and try to give my students more than technical knowledge; i.e. breathing from the diaphragm, not using tension to control breath, aiming over the soft pallet, etc., but also acting and performance knowledge; like learn
ing to work with your nerves before a number and thinking about why the character is singing instead of saying the lyrics. I have been teaching since I was 16; from students ranging from 5 years old to 47 and have learned to adapt my curriculum to each student while making sure they develop a good repertoire and technique. For educational purposes I follow exercises and drills from a range of books including Vocal Strength and Power by Dena Murray, Speak with Distinction by Edith Skinner, Acting Songs by David Brunetti, and Voice and The Alexander Technique by Jane Ruby Heirich. I can perform basic accompanying parts and can also transpose music.

a sample of how my voice lessons are run is below. Each student with leave with a basic knowledge of solfage, a musical scale, and multiple genres of songs.

She grew up participating in her mother's studio recitals at home and enjoys an annual family tradition of organizing and performing Christmas programs at church. One of Catherine's projects during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music was the Symposium Concert Series, which has led her to perform in apartment homes around the city and build a community of young artists. She has made countless arrangements for solo viola and viola with various ensembles which she often performs.

Catherine resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Lawrence. She plays on a Raymond J. Melanson viola made in 1987.

While I certainly place emphasis on technical work and mastery, I also want all students to feel comfortable in expressing their individual voice and interests. I believe that it is incredibly important to encourage students to explore a number of creative avenues within music. Therefore, I am very open to having students explore music outside the classical canon in addition to experimenting with improvisation and composition. An additional component of my teaching style is finding unique and interesting ways to keep students motivated and teaching them how to effectively practice and learn on their own.

About Helen
My teaching philosophy is largely centered around the importance of individuality. The “one size fits all” approach is hardly ever adequate--every student has different needs, strengths, and challenges.

One of the greatest things about
teaching is the incredible amount of variety it offers. No two students will ever be the same, meaning I will never teach two students in an identical fashion. The challenge of uniquely tailoring my teaching to the needs and interests of individual students is one that I absolutely love.

My studio is a positive, encouraging, and sensitive environment, where I believe every person can begin or continue a life-long journey with music. Please contact me about my private teaching studio in Brooklyn. I welcome students of all levels and ages.

I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. As a member of the Park Quartet (the quartet in residence at Park Church) I recently performed at the 100th anniversary of McGolrick Park. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use Zen techniques to enter into the heart of music.

About Lenna
Hello cellists! My name is Lenna and I am pleased to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2011 and have loved helping my students improve their tone, learn better sight reading skills, and become more relaxed around their cellos. I studied chamber music for four years under the world famous Chiara Quartet. My favorite books about classical music are: The Art of Practicing and Just Play Naturally. I'm a kind and patient person and my teaching style is focused on comfort and emotional vibrancy in performance. I look forward to guiding you through some wonderful musical experiences.

Lenna is a terrific cello teacher! I feel lucky to have found her through this site. I was starting from zero with the cello and she was able to guide me through the Suzuki book to be able to play some songs -- even sight-reading. While I have a long way to go, I appreciate her focus and dedication to improving my playing skills. Highly recommended!

Lenna is out of this world! When I first undertook, as an adult beginner, to learn the cello, I often found myself frustrated by the challenge. Lenna changed the way I approach my studies. She taught me to FEEL music, to find the beauty in slowing down and repeating, to have patience with my practice and to appreciate my progress. She has improved my rhythm, vibrato, sound quality, knowledge of music theory and more. She is always gentle and supportive during our lessons and approaches learning with a humility I only wish I could have. She likes to end lessons by guiding her students through a few minutes of improv, which I deeply enjoy. A talented cellist (and musician generally); a wonderful instructor; and a kind, supportive, optimistic personality. I love working with Lenna and strongly recommend her.

As a violist and string enthusiast, my appreciation and knowledge of the cello runs fairly deep. I had studied and taught myself how to play the cello with the guidance of a professional cellist some many years ago, but I've always been eager to teach the cello to any willing student with a deep appreciation. Students can expect a curriculum catered to their needs and desires, whether they be to on the road to a professional musician or just the hobbyist and a teacher who is dedicated to their educational growth and desires.

About Ashley
I am currently a junior at Ramapo College studying music education but I am no foreigner to teaching. I have been teaching for some years now with general ages ranging between 3 to 25, in the violin, viola and cello. I have also taught music theory from a beginner's standpoint to a college sophomore level in conjunction with teaching said instruments. I have a passion for teaching that I love to give my students the passion of learning as teaching is not only fun, but also one of the most rewarding experiences in life as is having the guidance and educational support of a good teacher. Students can expect my 110% effort and know they can depend on me for consistency, accuracy and personalized lesson plans based on the level and goals they want to achieve. I aim to foster a supportive learning environment for my students in their hom
es or practice space of their choice as the main root of discontinuity in studies is the lack of support and passion. Feel free to contact me at anytime should any questions arise and remember, music is about having fun, so let's have fun!
