If you or someone is wanting to take lessons I highly recommend Kevin because I started knowing almost nothing about how to play on any type of instrument relating to percussion but Kevin has helped me understand how to count and look at the Music in a way that is understandable to play and read.

I have been taking music lessons of various types in and outside of school since elementary school and have never had a teacher who introduces concepts quite like Mr.Fuhrman. Things that I have struggled with ever since they were introduced; especially regarding rhythm/counting have become incredibly simple- as they should be! My progress regarding percussion (which I've been working with for over 4 years) has increased exponentially since working with him. Not only will he highly recommend essential practice, but he's willing to give you various strategies to manage time and to be able to fit the practice in. I've had music teachers (all of whom were very competent musicians) telling me to practice since the second grade, but no one's ever set aside some lesson time to discuss how to fit it in. I am a beginning music teacher myself and have already implemented some of the concepts he has taught with my own students. He's not only an incredibly skillful musician, but he is an amazing teacher as well. You won't regret doing lessons with him.

I completed musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE, with Majors in Musical Education and as a Performing Artist.
I am a qualified multilingual Music Instructor.
I have performed as a guitarist with several orchestras, musical groups, bands and as classical guitar soloist I have given numerous recitals and concerts.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

I break down music theory concepts into bite sized chunks so that students can understand how composers write what they write. I have even begun my own book on Music Theory due out in the near future. I have taught music theory to schools in Pomona and Diamond Bar. I have synesthesia (seeing colors with notes) which can help people see music theory in a different way.

With my two Bachelor's degrees in Music Composition and Technology, I began tutoring students in piano, voice, and composition as it was part of my training. I also have experience writing and editing essays, books, and more for several independent clients. I have experience writing my own books as well. I have written two so far, but am getting ready to write a third. I am a copious editor and can catch grammatical and other errors with ease. This is why tutoring in English would be great for me.
I thought I would add basic math for those school-aged children that are having a little trouble with it in their classes.

I use a wide variety of techniques to sing, play piano and other instruments. Techniques include straight vowel singing (no words) to test how long to hold notes, using color to help people sight read, using improvisational techniques in order to play jazz, rock, classical and many other styles of music.

I studied AMEB music theory back home in Australia (Australian Musical Examination Board), all the way through until college where I studied a bachelor of performing arts. During my studies advanced theory was covered. As a performing musician playing in orchestras and other ensembles I've always maintained a high level of theory.

I improvise playing electronic violin with DJ's, this requires a broad theory knowledge. It is an instrumental skill when free styling.

I have taught music theory to up and coming music producers to hone their skills and become masters at production. My music has taken me all around the world, from Australia, to Europe and now the US, where I have been recently granted an extraordinary ability visa, recognizing me as one of the best performers from my home country. This allows me to teach and perform music in America.

Wonderful first online lesson for my daughter! My daughter had been taking local lessons for a while but had to abandon them due to other commitments. Polina's methods and instruction in the first lesson have already exceeded our expectations. Connecting with his audiences, Bennett is proud of his community engagement efforts, offering chamber music concerts to a wide variety of listeners. His former woodwind quintet, The Desert Island Winds created programs th
at highlighted the importance of chamber music for all music students and supporters.

Bennett is inspired and engaged in performing new works by living composers. During his undergraduate career, he performed over 20 concerts of new music. Primarily fostering younger composer’s passion to write, he also played a role during Composers Inc.’s first ever orchestral debut concert. Premiering new works in Berkeley, Hayward, and Stockton with various ensembles, Bennett has enjoyed all aspects of new music performance.

He has also performed across the world including Carnegie Hall, California Theater, Golden Gate Park, Ljubljana Theater, Slovak Radio Hall, Green Music Center, Faye-Spanos Concert Hall, Community Concert Hall of Durango, CO, Menlo-Atherton Center for Performing Arts, and various churches across California.

Bennett is pursuing a Master’s degree in Oboe Performance at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA under the direction and guidance of Dr. Joel Timm. Previously, he received his Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from the University of the Pacific where he was a Theodore Presser Undergraduate Scholar.

A majority of his time is spent practicing his instruments, but alongside the necessity of reeds, Bennett enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He loves going outdoors and cooking!
