I'm Brett and I am so excited to start sharing all the wonderful experiences that music has brought to my life, with YOU. I am a recent graduate from New York University with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from the Tisch School of the Arts. I work professionally both as a performer and a teacher. I most recently created the role of Jamie in the North American debut of Bobby Cronin's musical "DAYBREAK", and have also been seen around many regional theaters in the country, most notably "The Who's Tommy" at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. As well, I am always gigging as a singer, guitarist and pianist all around New York City. I am a composer working as both a singer/songwriter, and a film scorer. of different mediums, and this is exactly what I bring to the table as a teacher. My exploration of music through so many vehicles has brought about a way of thinking; that music at its core is all the same, whether you sing it, play it, pluck it,or hit it! Therefore, lessons with me are about finding your core musician, then ascribing the technical necessities needed to perfect your desired instrument. As my tag line suggests, lessons with me are about finding the musician inside of yourself. We often forget that music at its' core is about expression. I want to give you the tools, techniques and structure to engage fully, freely and passionately with the rewarding art form of music. For singers, this means tapping into our breath, our bodies and our support to create those sounds that excite, captivate and move not only our audiences,but ourselves. For guitarists, we are going to exercise scales, fingerings and chords so that we develop a tool box for our inner rock star to play with! For pianists, whether you consider yourself a classical, jazz or rock pianist, we are going to build a foundation that allows you to play in whichever style you wish, and a technique that will always be there to support you.

I specialize in online lessons so that I can share this lesson program with student's all over the world! If this is your first time with online lessons, rest assure I will walk you through the set-up and technicalities to ensure the utmost productivity from our sessions!

Whichever instrument you take on, we will be building general music concepts throughout every lesson; playing with theory, chord/scale structure, etc. In this way, we develop that all powerful musician in ourselves who can work in multiple artistic mediums, and find fulfillment in the many facets of this amazing art form.

Brett is an incredible teacher. Patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. He clearly loves music and working with people. My Philosophy - Students First - My main goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which the student can proceed at his/her own pace. Whether you are looking to perform, do studio work, audition, be a songwriter or just learn a few songs for your own enjoyment. I am happy to create a custom program for you. I believe the most fundamental place to begin is with theory. Through a creative, relaxed and patient environment I introduce students to the rudiments of music on 2 simp
le pages. Theory helps you to understand song writing, ear training, and how to build chords and scales. I try to get you to hear the music so you can improvise better and also take songs and solos off CD's yourself, therefore becoming more self reliant to teach yourself in the future.

My students bring in the songs they like and by strengthening their ears and learning to apply theory points, I show them how they can figure out the song by ear the exact way it was written and played by the original artist. Therefore you can play with the CD as if you are a band member. This builds confidence to perform and record in any band at any level. As stated above, I will also customize a program for those interested in learning songs without the theory work so they can use the music to play songs as a nice relaxing past time.

Course Descriptions- Rock, Blues and Funk: You will quickly learn how chords and scales are developed using a condensed theory set up chart. This quick immersion in theory helps you to build a strong foundation while at the same time playing and enjoying the music. I have found in my years of teaching that making theory and music interactive from the beginning makes it more enjoyable to learn. You will learn all scales, chords, techniques, rhythms, and ear training specific to these styles of music. The advantage to this Teaching Format , especially in terms of solo scale playing, to progress much further and faster than if you were just learning how to play the songs. We then go straight to the CD's of your choice and learn from the best, the artists you've admired. Whether to learn their rhythms, solo lines, songwriting formats, melodies and harmonies, and all by ear. As a soloist, you will know enough about scales and chord theory and how to blend the two so you can make the guitar talk yourself. Still for those who want a quick song approach, we can get into playing a song and review its theory relevance when desired. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Folk, Country and Bluegrass: As stated above, I begin with the condensed theory chart to understand chords of all types. Here we study rhythms of the above music forms including ballad, country blues and country folk. Through use of songs you enjoy, we study how the music was written and performed. You will learn in this course how to play music you love as it was done by the original artist. We begin with listening to the original soundtrack. Through the use of the ear we dissect the song and learn it in its original form piece by piece. This will also help set up the study of song writing. Understanding how artists Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Transposing songs to fit your vocal range and Arranging songs to bring out their best. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Finger Style: Great fun for those who would rather not sing but still want to play full songs on guitar. This style of guitar will blend the techniques of traditional finger picking artists along with our own on improvisation over twelve bar blues progressions and songs. You will learn to play all the parts, bass, melody, harmony and inside chords with your picking hand. Also how to create chord/melody arrangements from any melody.

Classical: Classical guitar is taught through developing standard reading skills, finger exercises and scale work while learning beautiful pieces at the same time.

Song Writing: Song writing always begins with an introduction to theory. From there you will study works from other artists to see how they Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and how they use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Choose a song and artist that you enjoy and we will dissect the piece learning the above techniques.

Children's Studies: The study of music has proven to enhance a child's concentration, mathematical and reading skills, self confidence, performance skills in all walks of life whether its playing the guitar, to public speaking, to playing sports.

I agree with everything everyone else says about Albert so I don't want to repeat. I started with him when I retired (bucket list litem) and Albert is very patient and helpful ( as well as accommodating my uneven scheduling). You get into songs you like right away and learn technique within the songs as you go. He'll give you as much theory as you want. Shortly after you start with Albert you'll feel like your learning/ playing with a friend... I highly recommend him!

The reason Albert is the best instructor ever is that he is really gifted at his craft and at teaching. So many people can do one or the other. Albert makes it fun and instills a desire to practice, and balances theory/performance goals. He is college educated in music and will teach the fundamentals-having said that, he would make a great teacher for the advanced player as well.

Finally, he is the most patient teacher I know, a plus for you and/or your child. I would be pleased to talk personally to anyone considering Albert for lessons.

I offer dynamic, personalized music lessons that are focused but fun! I share a deep passion for music and pedagogy and give students the skills they need to succeed by creating a comfortable environment where he or she can improve as a player while enjoying themselves. I specialize in classical & pop styles but can also offer students an introduction to jazz and other contemporary styles like rock. Sight-reading, hand/body posture, and effective practice strategies are basic tenants of my instruction as is developing musicality in the player. Theory is integrated with an emphasis on chords, melody, and song structure. I encourage songs of the student's choice to be explored by means of sheet music, lead-sheet, or transcribing together by ear. As a singer-songwriter and having studied both classical and cont
emporary voice with a thorough understanding of proper vocal technique, I offer beginning voice lessons and encourage my piano students to explore their voices with me as well!

Bio:
Lilli L. began formal piano lessons at the young age of three-and-a-half in Sacramento, California. She studied classical piano on and off for thirteen years before expanding her musical repertoire to other genres and instruments. At 16 she began singing and songwriting on guitar and piano, and at 18 inherited a drum set she played daily. She resumed private piano instruction with a new teacher, Tatiana Scott, and completed all music theory, jazz theory, and ear-training courses at college under the tutelage of Tatiana and noted jazz pianist and professor Dr. Joe Gilman. She continued on to study classical voice at College of Marin after a move to the bay area in 2013, and studied contemporary voice with Amber Morris.

Despite extensive traveling and joining the workforce at a young age, by her early twenties music instruction had become her sole profession. Since then she has been thoroughly dedicated to her students’ success and is credited for having a sharp intuition for her students’ musical preferences and learning styles and for being a sensitive and empathetic mentor. With such a broad range of musical tastes she is happy and able to teach a spectrum of musical styles on piano and in voice. Despite great success teaching music in Marin County, she relocated to finish her degree in piano performance and contemporary voice and currently resides in the Upper East Side of New York, New York teaching, studying, and playing with her band Armadillo.

Whether it's a hobby or a serious endeavor, she welcomes all students and coordinates with them based on their goals and learning style.

Cancellation Policy :
Lessons are a weekly occurrence and both the student and teacher fare better with continuity of lessons. Please keep cancellations/reschedules to a minimum and within reason: illness, emergency, major holidays, school functions are excusable. Absences for other reasons (such as busyness, playdates, etc.) or without 24 hours notice result in being charged for the lesson. Please give ample notice for vacations so the teacher can plan accordingly. If sick, let your teacher know ahead of time so she can make an informed decision about her own health. Thank you!

Baritone Daniel Collins has performed at Carnegie Hall and with the Metropolitan Opera chorus in New York City. Dr. Collins was a finalist in the Dallas and El Paso Opera Guild Competitions, the NATS Singer of the Year Competition, and the NATSAA National Competition. Though my time as a student with Dr. Dan was short, it was very valuable. Even though the lessons were about singing, it helped me gain a general confidence in myself regarding posture, and using a loud voice. He has given a number of exercises to develop my breathing, vibrato, tone, and lower registers to use on my own. Dr. Dan is a great teacher who makes the atomsphere of the lessons very friendly and I would highly recommend him!

History

Established in 1996.

For the past twenty years, Dimitry has been teaching students of all ages to play the clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, and recorder.

Students will learn proper techniques, posture, breathing, phrasing, articulation, tone, rhythm, sight reading, solfeggio, music theory, and music history. They will also learn to play solos (with and without accompaniment), as well as duets (along with the instructor).

Private lessons are customized to meet each student's goals, such as preparation for regional and state band auditions, concerts, and other music competitions.

Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.

As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

My name is David, and I am a NYC based performer, producer, and educator. I have been teaching in the area ever since I left high school to students both young and old. I have a great deal of experience, and offer a focused, yet light and enjoyable lesson that allows for individual input and unique experiences.

I enjoy making sure that while my students are learning the fundamentals of their instrument, they are also learning about the ideas of music theory, ear training, and music appreciation. I feel that these concepts are just as important as learning where to put your fingers, and I think that this approach creates a well rounded player that understands the real depth and amazing potential of music as an art.

Hello! I am a New York City-based composer who endeavors to write music that brings whimsical worlds to life, that is meaningful to audience and performer alike, and that refreshes and strengthens the creative spirit. I've used my knowledge of theory and music analysis to create a world-wide career as a composer! My violin sonata Amerigo has been performed in nearly all 50 states as part of my 50 State Sonata Project, and my melodic music has been praised as “arrestingly poetic” (BMOP) and “wide ranging, imaginative” (Portland Press Herald).

My 2016/2017 concert season included the premieres of my cello concerto Tekton, my bassoon concerto Rituum, commissions by New York City’s Moirae Ensemble, members of the Reno Philharmonic, Mars Hill University’s Alan Theisen, Beijing’s Sun He, Kingma System flutist Rachel Hacker, and a co-commissio
n involving violinists from 35 countries. I am the 2017-2019 Composer in Residence for the Eureka Ensemble in Boston.

A two-time winner of the Chicago College of Performing Arts Vector Project, my orchestral music has been performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Eureka Ensemble, the JVL Festival Orchestra in Ontario, the Cremona Academy Festival Orchestra in Italy, the Chicago College of Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra, the Grammy-winning Pioneer Symphony Orchestra in Ann Arbor, and the New England Conservatory Orchestra in Boston. My string orchestra works are published by TRN Music and my chamber and orchestral music is published by Femoire. I am a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago and the New England Conservatory in Boston. 

I am a frequent lecturer at universities and high schools, often speaking on the subjects of creativity, entrepreneurship, and how to create a career after music school. An advocate of the innate creativity in young people, I have brought composition and theory programs to schools and music festivals in three countries. Dru Richardson is a professional percussionist and teacher living and working in New York City. She graduated from Appalachian State University with 2 Bachelors Degree -- one in Music Performance and the other in Business Administration. While at App State, she was the president of the Steely Pan Steel Band and spent the majority of her days traveling North Carolina and surrounding states spreading the love of the Trinidad namesake instrument, the Steel Pan. She also was a member of the New Paradigm Quartet, ASU Percussion Ensemble, and the ASU Tabla Ensemble. In addition, she taught drumline and front ensemble for three years at Athens Drive High School, Bunker Hill High School, and Eastern Alamance High School. These days she is a bookkeeper by day and gigging, teaching, and even *pretend* playing on the upcoming season of Amazon's Mo
