I have studied the piano for fifteen years. I have studied and taught in multiple styles as well. In my lessons, I would teach the basics of playing the piano, reading and understanding sheet music, and the fundamentals of music theory. We can cover classical piano styles along with jazz or rock and roll.

My teaching philosophy is that a teacher is just the guide. They must ensure that the student reaches their destination of their own accord and desires.

About Gillian

Hello! My name is Gillian and I recently graduated from the Crane School of Music with a degree in Music Business and Piano. I have studied piano classically for fifteen years, as well as the cello, banjo, mandolin, guitar, ukulele, and drums. I also study jazz, folk, rock, and play and sing in a b

I have a unique approach to Music Theory for all Instrumentalists and Singers that will support their performances. Focusing on the understanding of how the music was created from a technical basis allows the musician full access to a free creative approach to their performances. My course, which includes how to learn/practice a piece is beneficial at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level and will allow the student to comprehend their music much more quickly and enjoy the joy of playing sooner.
The Advance Level would help those who are preparing for the A. P Theory Exam or anyone looking for extra support in College Level Theory.

About Michele

I've been teaching piano for 26 years and my students have gone on to develop a love of music with life long skills that have brought them to the stage & recording studios, awards in the Musical Theater Industry, conservatories and sharing their music on a daily basis with confidence and joy! I was recommended by a friend to have Michele as a piano teacher. I was recently retired and available to follow my dreams of playing the piano. Michele more than filled my expectations as I found enjoyment playing classical and favorite tunes.
She is wonderful!

Michele is more than a fantastic musician, although she is that as well. She has a deep understanding and love of music which is demonstrated in her teaching, her composing and her playing. What sets her truly head and shoulder above all the teachers I’ve had, several as a child and three as an adult, is her ability to tailor lessons to deepen knowledge. She is very attuned to her student and will adapt her teaching techniques if a student doesn’t learn well initially. She is comfortable with a wide range of musical styles from classical and jazz to pop and even throws in a rap beat when called for. Michele would be an excellent teacher for any student, young, mature, beginner to advanced because she has both a gift for music and a gift for teaching and connecting with students.

Michele is a sensitive fun loving player and composer who also brings so much kindness and understanding to her students. I know because I was one of them along with my kids. She's passionate and serious without being stuffy!
We love her.

I would like to highly recommend Ivan Shallal as a music teacher for children. Ivan is a gifted piano teacher. He is very well-respected in Rochester Hills and Troy, Michigan. This community is extremely fortunate to have a music teacher of his caliber to teach in this area.

Ivan is passionate about music. His love for the art is evident in his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is exceedingly patient with all students, encourages them, and coaxes the very best effort from each one. Although he is one of the best music teachers in the zone, his prices are extremely reasonable. In my opinion, he is worth every penny he charges, and I certainly believe I have received excellent service for my money.

It is my great pleasure to recommend Ivan Shallal as a music teacher. I am tremendously grateful to him for everything he has taught my daughter.

Ivan was an absolutely wonderful Piano teacher to my son, who was 3-4 years old at the time. My son had a peculiar way of learning and appreciating music, and Ivan seamlessly adapted to my son’s learning style, engaged with him in a fun but effective dynamic, and taught him skills beyond my expectations! He’s kind, patient and highly skilled as a teacher. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

Ivan was the piano teacher for my 3 boys ages 14, 12 and 7 years old for about 2 years. Before Ivan, my kids lost interest in learning and practicing piano. Ivan was able to engage their interest and make them love practicing. He encouraged them to pick music from famous songs or movies which helped to attract their attention. My kids looked at him as a role model. It was a pleasure having him as their piano teacher. He is a great one. It was a big loss for us when he moved out of the state. He is highly recommended.

Online Music Theory Teacher

My approach to music theory is far from traditional. I teach you to study theory through music, not through a book, as if you were learning to speak your native language all over again. Within the first four lessons you will have the ability to play and construct all seven modes in all twelve keys, including major and minor scales.

Since I believe it is counter-productive to separate theory and ear training, we then take time to internalize all of the modes through the study of melody composition and improvisation.

After you learn to intellectualize and identify the modes, we move onto studying arpeggios and chords that are directly built from each mode. During this phase, we will also begin to study chord progressions and introductory voice-leading.

After learning to construct the chords from each mode, we study a concept called "voice-leading" which is really just the theoretical way of saying "there's many ways to make a chord with the same 3 or 4 notes sound different."

About Morgan

I am a songwriter and composer with an education in classical and jazz guitar, I started playing 13 years ago, and have definitely had hit my share of plateaus along the way which led me to enrolling in music school. In school, I learned a lot about the intellectual side of music, but I fel

"The lessons (piano & music theory) I learned from Buzz Amato was the sole reason I got signed to a label & was able to produce 2 Billboard charted singles (which he co-produced with me). I now tour the world djing and produce with talented artists that come to me based off my musical knowledge, that I received from Buzz. I can honestly say NONE of this would happen without the musical instruction of Buzz. Thank you Buzz!"

He made it easy for me to understand concepts that were always lost on me in the past. It was the best money I have ever spent to get my skills and knowledge where I need them to be. I highly recommend Shon as both a theory and instrument (guitar/piano) instructor. Definitely the best option if you want to take you or your child's playing to the next level."

"I am extremely happy with my first five lessons. I feel that my instruction is individualized well to my short term goals, which is to develop a solid theoretical foundation that enables me to understand compositional approaches and methodologies and prepare me to create my own compositions and arrangements. Currently the format of our lesson is to analyze/discuss a piece in detail with a compositional or arrangement exercise to reinforce the main techniques of the piece. (which is reviewed at the subsequent lesson). The exchange of ideas (as well as the exercises) have resulted in me learning something fun and interesting every single lesson. I highly recommend Jaxon as a music theory instructor."

"I never thought I would confidently understand music theory, even after years of practice, self-teaching, college electives, etc... I just never felt like I "got" it. Brad changed all that. Studying music theory with Brad's guidance and encouragement, I quickly began to feel as though I could "speak" music fluently.

Brad is a phenomenal teacher, and can adapt to almost any situation. If I wasn't understanding something, he never got frustrated, he would find a way to explain it differently until something finally stuck. That's very important I think. I've had too many teachers give up and say, "If you don't get this, you never will." Brad doesn't think like that. To him, "just not getting it" isn't an option. If you want to learn something, he'll find a way to teach it to you."

"Well, I can say that when we met 24 years ago, I've never seen anyone playing the bass guitar as good as he did, I still remember him playing that beautiful six string bass guitar along with a drummer... I was just trying to catch up with those two ... it was just rehearsal and they didn't need a me as keyboard player , just the slap bass solo was enough for me to step down and watch, I learned a lot just by listening to him. He was a very patient teacher and his musical knowledge was amazing,"
