Nicole began her musical journey in Long Island, New York when she began piano lessons at age five. While receiving training on piano, she joined her elementary school orchestra in the 3rd grade and quickly soared with violin. During this period, Nicole began learning music theory and the art of reading music. As a fourth grader, Nicole would go on to conduct and tune every instrument in her orchestra during rehearsal. She always competed and won many NYSMA competitions for violin while attending music seminars and workshops. It was then that her teacher realized she had a gift. Nicole continued with piano lessons and began teaching herself guitar. Later, after college, she bought herself a drum set and began to teach herself drums. As an adult, Nicole studied to become an elementary teacher and worked in the New York State Sch
ool Districts for over five years. Shortly after receiving her master's degree for Literacy Education, Nicole decided to attempt to share her passion for music. In 2007, Nicole opened a music studio in Holbrook, New York. Here, she refined her music teaching skills while establishing Nicolex Inc. Music Island as a leading source of quality music education. Her summer traveling music program allowed her students to experience live performances as well as create music groups with peers with the same passion for music. Nicole now resides in Tampa, Florida with hopes to spread her business as well as the joy of music to children and adults. She currently is the drummer for a local original Soul/Rock band. Needless to say, she understands the importance that music has had in her life and wishes to ignite that passion in other music lovers.
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is best labeled as kind but firm. I take my job very seriously and want wholeheartedly for my students to have music as a part of their life, not just a part of their day. I love to laugh and have fun but I will definitely expect my students to practice and complete any homework I assign and be prepared for the following lesson. Simply stated, music is fun and the love of my life, but if I still practice, you will as well. Otherwise, I always believe in teaching songs my students are interested in and will expand their musical skills. My experience as a public school teacher had enhanced my sense of finding individual needs of every student. Therefore, I always differentiate lessons to suit my students interest while teaching them the foundations every musician needs in order to be successful. My specialty is teaching a variety of instruments. I play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and sing as well. So, if one instrument is not for you, I can teach you something different without a problem. Long story short, friends, you are in good hands.

Emil was a great instructor, very knowledgable and patient. I have improved in all areas thanks to his instruction. He would even stay late occasionally to play violin solos with me playing rhythm guitar!

I am a passionate and skilled violinist and student. I have been playing violin since the age of 7 and continue to study and play at University of Massachusetts Amherst. In the past, I have put together string quartets and have played in a variety of ensembles for different settings; musicals, formal concerts, weddings, etc.... I have 2 years of experience teaching middle school violinists in my hometown. In terms of teaching approach, I recognize that each student is different from the next, and while I prefer to guide all students through a similar structure, I always make conscious and consistent efforts to evaluate each student's progression to determine what needs the most work.

About Mary E
I am a professional violin/fiddle player and singer, and I perform and teach music classes all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. I truly enjoy teaching and love seeing to the students needs and fulfilling what they need in order to progress as a musician. You are the most important part of our classes.
I worked for the NYC Department of Education as a substitute classroom and general music teacher (2015-2018). I have a background in students with special needs and special education. Se habla espanol.
I was award a full-tuition scholarship through an audition for the North American World Scholarship Program to attend Berklee College of Music. There I earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance (2003).
I have been teaching and performing music professionally for 23 years. I began my studies as a young child with the Suzuki Method (whic
h focuses on learning by ear, substantial parental involvement, and only later reading music.) In high school I began studying jazz/blues improvisation, composition, and music theory. At Berklee College of Music I focused on jazz and all kinds of contemporary and traditional music.
After graduating I was awarded a position at the Henry Mancini Institute (2003) in Los Angeles and was privileged to work with some of the biggest names in music including Diana Krall and Christian McBride.
My favorite type of music to play these days is traditional Irish folk music, or "Irish trad". For the past few years I have immersed myself heavily in New York's traditional Irish music scene. I play regularly at several establishments in New York City alongside some of the city's finest Irish music players.
A large part of my teaching style is that you are having FUN, you are enjoying what you are learning, no matter your skill level. Even if you are an absolute beginner, we might work on playing the chorus or the riff of the song. For example, one year I had a very happy 6-year old boy learn the theme to Star Wars and another college student learning the music of MGMT.
Mary-Elizabeth taught me violin for 2 years. I was brand new and she made picking up violin easy and enjoyable. She recognizes current and future problems and suggests exercises to correct them. She always has a positive attitude, which helped me avoid getting frustrated. Her classes were relaxed and thorough. I could not have asked for a better teacher!

We met Mary-Elizabeth for the first time in January 2009 by recommendation of The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
We were looking for a private violin teacher for my daughter Elisabeth, age 13, who at that time had never played an instrument before and was clearly shy and nervous about the project.
From the very first lesson, Mary-Elizabeth not only showed the skills and the basic technique of teaching the violin to younger children, but most impressing was her enthusiasme and joy that immidiately spread to the student. You could tell, that this was a teacher who loved playing too!!
And that opened all the doors for the difficult practising and today I have a daughter who enjoys so much playing that she brings the violin on every holiday to make sure she always has the instrument nearby!
I can sincerely recommend Mary-Elizabeth for teaching and I guarantee you, the students will love playing and look foreward to her lessons!

This is what you need to set yourself up for a lifetime of playing! While I studied primarily classical music, he also has lots of experience in many other genres as well."

The violin can be an incredibly rewarding instruments to play. For beginners, the road to success is riddled with lessons in patience and discipline, but when met with enthusiasm and the right guidance, the journey is certainly worthwhile! Many say that practice makes perfect, and while of course regular practice is a must, it does not guarantee perfection – in fact, improper practice can yield consistently poor results. So what are the fundamental hallmarks of proper violin practice, and how …
