Whether you need tutoring for a class or a basic explanation of the nuts and bolts of music!
Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do!
Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in.
Lessons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take concentration and application! I understand and can
work with many schedules and work loads, but I expect my students to put at least half the effort into their lessons that I do!
Mr o. Is the best saxophone teacher I have never meet . He care about me so much . When I just start at jazz , he let me borrow a lot of CD to listen and learn . And that helped me so much . He had only be my teacher for one year , but he teach me so much that I have never thought .
I incorporate interval recognition, chord spelling, voice leading, and scale construction in my guitar lessons.
I am a NYS certified Music teacher who has been teaching in the school system for over 20 years.
I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college. My focus is to teach techniques, skills and concepts for life-long learning.
I am currently available to teach Guitar, Music Theory and Beginner Piano.
Aside from teaching private guitar and piano lessons and teaching General music and Chorus in school, I perform and accompany singers as a guitarist in churches on Long Island.
For your added security, I've been VIRTUS trained with the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre and fingerprinted with the NYS Education department.
My system of guitar training includes:
* Right hand and Left hand technical exercises geared towards developing coordination and confidence;
work in music reading of standard music notation and TAB;
* Fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques.
* Song repertoire knowledge and memorization
*Solo guitar interpretation of popular songs as well as accompaniment styles appropriate for backing your or another's voice; *Ear-training and Music theory is incorporated into each lesson.
NYSSMA preparation is available for both Classical and Jazz auditions.
Piano lessons are available with concentration in proper hand mechanics and technique, theory, ear-training and music reading. NYSSMA preparation up through level 4 is available.
*** Lesson Details *** My guitar lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. From single notes, students learn to build harmony, (chords), from 2 notes, to 3, and thereafter, 4. Song repertoire is built from a variety of sources including published method books. Memorization of song repertoire is stressed.
After the student has learned the notes and scales in the first position as well as the associated chords, he/she can learn songs of his/her choosing from the Folk, Pop, Classical and Jazz repertoire that is appropriate to his/her current level.
Piano method books used include the Dozen-A-Day and Hanon technique exercises as well as the Schaum and Michael Aaron method book series'.
NYSSMA training/coaching is available for both piano and guitar with suitable training beginning a least a year before the NYSSMA audition is to take place.
The Guitar student should have a good quality guitar, (steel strings, nylon strings, or steel-string electric) professionally set-up with light-gauged strings (for the beginners), a strap, a music stand, and time and space in the home in order to encourage a daily routine of practice.
The Piano student should have daily access to a piano or keyboard instrument with weighted keys in order to be able to practice lesson material daily.
For young students, a practice chart is given where a student is to mark his/her practice time in order for progress to be made.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a dedicated room in my home that is set up for private practice and teaching. It has an electronic piano, folding chairs, a music stand and guitar amplifiers and cables.
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring an acoustic guitar with me to all out-going lessons so that I can play along with the student and demonstrate techniques as necessary. I bring extra blank sheets of music writing paper, fret board diagrams, and study sheets, as well as extra copies of the books I use most frequently. I can purchase books/materials for the student, with the student's or parent/guardian's reimbursement, or the student may purchase materials on their own.
*** Specialties *** Pick-style and finger-style guitar, both acoustic and electric; music reading, music theory; re-harmonization and arrangement techniques to make a song your own!
Music theory distills and analyzes the fundamental parameters or elements of music, rhythm, harmony (harmonic function), melody, structure, form, and texture. It helps better understand what is played and how certain functions affect the certain musical compositions.
Classically trained, energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils; experienced in identifying the appropriate resources necessary for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively. Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.
I also specialize in special needs students.
All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe with an extensive music pedagogy training. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging req
uired for music colleges. I especially find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.
The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.
*** Lesson Details *** The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs.
With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.
Classes are not based on a single source or book. I provide other exercises in printed form for students to keep and take home.

Two high end digital keyboards, two violins, viola, cello, upright bass, bass guitar and amplifier, music stands, stereo equipment with a large CD collection of just any conceivable music style.. Peter has exceeded my expectations, I look forward for my lesson every week. I honestly can say He is the best teacher I’ve ever had. I am a 44 yo violin beginner student who has had 5 teachers in the last 6 years, I didn’t learn much with them, this been said, with Peter in just 3 months I feel I have learned more than my other teachers. Peter is so, so patient and extremely professional. I am very pleased to have found such a wonderful teacher.

Peter has been teaching bass to our son for several years and our son has become quite proficient. It's a bonus that Peter is unfailingly upbeat, professional, and a pleasure to have around. He truly loves music and conveys his appreciation to his students - so much so that now my husband is taking cello lessons from Peter, too.
Theory is important and can relate to ANY style of music! Weather you want to learn how to write Chorales in the style of J.S. Bach, study for your AP Music Theory Exam, or learn how to write songs like the Beatles, understanding how harmony works is the first step!

Hello, potential piano proteges'! ...Being a piano protege as a child myself, I have been teaching piano, organ, and flute for over 25 years since and I currently have students that range from children to adults. While you are learning to play piano, you will be playing popular, classical, hymns and all types of music. I am a keyboard and composition major at Stony Brook University and play many musical styles like pop, standards, classical, swing and rock 'n roll. My students were finalists in the Yamaha Electone organ competition. From 4th grade to High School graduation, I received NYSSMA awards and scholarships as a flutist.
I offer piano and cello lessons for all levels and ages in both English or Chinese. My teaching philosophy is to help students set up a good foundation and practice routine. My lessons are engaging and tailored to individual's needs. I am also an experienced online teacher. Online music lessons offer the opportunity for students who do not live around a suitable teacher to take lessons and improve their musical skills. It also gives students convenience and it saves time commuting to teachers. It works the same way as an in person lesson except the teacher is on the screen. It is a good option if you do not have a suitable teacher nearby. My method is a mix of suzuki books along with right hand and left hand exercise that I have accumulated over the years of teaching. I will give you a consultation on your first lesson to se
e what kind of material you need-that includes music theory and ear training if necessary. (you need someone to teach you how to read music right?) I will also make recommendation on your instrument and where to rent or buy them.
I hope this is helpful. Shoot me a message if you have any questions!
