I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.
At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs. I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.
I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.
I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.
I am excited and thrilled by the opportunity to work with you!
Both my daughters (ages 6 and 8) are taking piano lessons with Kristin. She is a great teacher: patient, encouraging, listens to the kids, and makes sure they enjoy the lessons. We hope to have lessons with her for the long run and highly recommend her for a positive music experience.

Kristin was such a wonderful teacher for our young daughter, Margaret! We had to move out-of-state and are struggling to find someone who can fill Kristin's shoes!

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first note she touched at her Weill Hall recital, Anastasia S. was a genuine pleasure to listen to. Every piece, every measure, every note - no matter how complex the texture, no matter how many strands of melody and accompaniment - was wrapped in a halo of golden tone..."
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Anastasia S. gave her first solo recital at the age of eleven. Ms. S. is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Germany, and holds a Master’s and a Doctorate degrees from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford.

First Prize in the 14th International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Rome, Italy, and was awarded a Special Prize. In year 2006 Ms. S. won the Puigcerda International Piano Competition in Spain. In the same year she recorded the complete works for piano and orchestra by Balakirev with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra for NAXOS records. In 2008 Ms. S. received the “Outstanding Award”, which granted her a return engagement to give a second solo recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2010 Anastasia was awarded a Special Prize for the best interpretation of French composition at the International Piano Competition “Parnassos” in Mexico. Her solo recital in 2008 at the Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago was broadcast live on WFMT Radio, in Internet, and on the TV-Station “Channel 25“; Anastasia was invited to play there again in 2011. Her career continues with numerous appearances as a soloist both in concertos with orchestra, in solo recitals, and in chamber music concerts in Ukraine, Germany, Macedonia, Italy, Switzerland, France, Russia, USA, and Japan. As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.
Ever wonder what Mixolydian or diminished means? They're just musical terms that describe the relationship a set of sounds, or notes. Music Theory is the analysis of what music is, how sound is turned into music, why it works the way it does!
Whatever your Music Theory goals, whether it's analyzing Beethoven or writing your own music, I have what it takes to make learning truly learning!
I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.
Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.
The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.
I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.
Through my healing journey, I've developed patience, insight, and understanding for my students' learning processes.
I'm excited to help you incorporate new skills into your life!

Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves. I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.
The key to learning guitar......is finding the right instructor!
I am an encouraging, effective guitar instructor and an experienced performing musician, offering in-person beginner through intermediate guitar instruction in my home and on line.
It is very rewarding to me to help others along the journey of creative expression through music. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience. To kick back after a long day and let your soul speak through a musical instrument is a wonderful release. Please let me guide you along this incredible adventure to bring out that inner artist!
You'll learn guitar playing posture, strumming patterns and an understanding of rhythm, tuning, chords progressions and chord theory, basic principle
s of reading tablature and 5 line staff, and great popular songs. You'll be playing your favorite tunes in no time!
Through formal and self- instructed lessons from age 12, I've learned country, folk, blues, rock, and metal techniques and formed several local bands as lead vocalist and lead/rhythm guitarist. Writing and recording my own music has been a hobby for over 30 years.
An active music enthusiast from a young age, I began with clarinet technique and music theory from age 9 through public schools, performing in orchestra and marching band.
I'm enjoying my lessons with Scott. He has taught me a lot. He makes playing and learning exciting. I can't wait for my next lesson.
May 12, 2018
I started with Scott as a newbie and he has definitely helped me grow as a guitarist. He takes time and makes things easier to learn. As complicated learning can be, he simplifies it and breaks it down. When I feel like I’m not progressing he always shows me how I am. His modules are easy to follow. His teaching style is compatible with all types of learners whether you are visual, hands on or a listener. It’s not just business with him. He’s always available for questions after or between lessons. He’s knowledgeable in equipment so don’t hesitate to ask for some advice on what to buy. He’s affordable and lesson times are flexible. I highly recommend him for all ages and learning needs.

Scott has been a great help to me, filling in the gaps and teaching exactly what I request: techniques, specific songs, and lesson times at work for me. He communicates well and follows up after each lesson with emails.
Come learn how to read notes, rhythms, sight-reading and more! Reading music doesn't have to be a headache - in fact, it can be fun!
Hi everyone, I'm Guthrie! I love music more than anything else; playing, teaching, composing are all my life passions. My styles vary from Irish flute to classical, and sometimes bagpipes on the side!
I'm from the Washington state, but currently studying music in Montréal, Québec. I've also lived and played music in Germany and Norway, both of which have shaped my personal taste in music. And as a teacher, I like to let the student tell me how they like to learn, what kind of music they want to learn to play, and then I can accommodate that. I promise you will learn a lot from me, (and me from you!) and have quite a bit of fun on the side!
"Collin helped me with piano theory very much. He was very involved and awnsered my questions well. He knew what he was teaching and it was apparent he has
a large background of knowledge in his subject field. Very good teacher. Would recommend to a friend or anyone looking for quality music lessons."
"Julie is a professional Instructor who quickly identifies the level of her students. Her energy and sense of humor are contagious and stimulating.
When we laugh we increase endorphin in our brain which helps us to remember what we learn. Thank you Julie for instruction and the pleasure of learning. :)"
"Alex is a delight to work with! I am an adult student who has tried and tried and tried to understand music theory but never stuck with it. This is my fi
rst time trying one on one lessons vs. a class and Alex's approach paired with his intentional and thoughtful care and attention to my specific goals as a singer wanting to improve theory is a game-changer. It is clear that Alex is a subject matter expert, but he has never once made me feel dumb or embarrassed. Alex is warm, precise, and patient. I would recommend him to anyone I know looking to improve this skillset."
"David is an exceptional instructor with the ability to help a student resolve problem areas. His teaching methods along with his patience and experience m
akes him an excellent instructor for beginner and advanced students. I highly recommend David for anyone wanting to learn any instrument along with respective technique and theory."
"She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her work. I appreciate her style of teaching as she seems to love what she does and I look forward to learning
"When looking for an instructor what is best to find is knowledge of the subject. When it comes to Mr. Newbold, he delivers; Whether it be current or past.
He has had outstanding experience with acclimating to every student's needs and learning style. He provides a great environment/atmosphere which is critical to learning. If his credentials don't speak enough, then his personal musical talent should."
"Ricardo is very easy going, knowledgeable and patient. He has made learning music easy for me. Can’t wait for my next lesson!"
"She was suuuuuper nice and she knew how to explain herself really well"
"Highly recommended! I took online and Skype lessons for about one year with Daniel. He is an excellent and very patient teacher. I am a pianist with no
previous training in theory and ear training, but through his tutoring I was able to learn the basics of these subjects."
