Hi! My name is Barbee and I’ve been teaching and performing professionally for over twelve years. I love helping my students reach their musical goals, while having fun making music at the same time!
I accept students of all levels and ages 8 and up. Some of my students are working musicians, actors, and voice actors; many are teenagers who aspire to study music and/or theatre in college and become professional performers. And of course many are enthusiastic avocational singers and pianists who simply love music and want to work on their technique in a fun environment.

Both voice and piano lessons are based on a foundation of healthy technique while incorporating musicianship skills and encouraging the student to develop their own creativity. I am experienced in teaching many genres and styles including Broadway/musical theater, classical/opera, pop, rock, R&B, country, and folk. I encourage my students to explore new styles and apply good technique to any style they may choose to sing or play.
I love helping my students prepare for auditions. As an active performer myself I have auditioned many, MANY times for different organizations, and I have also been on "the other side of the table" and I know what qualities audition panels are looking for. As a member of both NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) I am constantly working to improve my teaching skills by keeping up with the latest pedagogical research. I love sharing new tips and techniques with my students!
I strive to create a lesson environment that is open and honest, where my students are never afraid to ask questions or try something new. I am always happy to explain concepts in a different way and I encourage improvisation and creativity in addition to healthy technique and strong musicianship.

Her knowledge of music and the anatomy of the voice have made my lessons with her invaluable. She’s an excellent teacher, so much so, that I plan to pick up piano lessons with her as well.
Music theory distills and analyzes the fundamental parameters or elements of music, rhythm, harmony (harmonic function), melody, structure, form, and texture. It helps better understand what is played and how certain functions affect the certain musical compositions.

Peter has been teaching bass to our son for several years and our son has become quite proficient. It's a bonus that Peter is unfailingly upbeat, professional, and a pleasure to have around. He truly loves music and conveys his appreciation to his students - so much so that now my husband is taking cello lessons from Peter, too.
Theory is important and can relate to ANY style of music! Weather you want to learn how to write Chorales in the style of J.S. Bach, study for your AP Music Theory Exam, or learn how to write songs like the Beatles, understanding how harmony works is the first step!

Thomas holds a masters degree in music education from SUNY Buffalo State, as well as a bachelors degree in music education from Hofstra University, and an associates degree in music performance from Nassau Community College.
Students are taught and guided to be able to understand the basic principles of music theory and to further be able to adapt their knowledge to composition. Music theory lessons include sight reading, sight singing, ear training, and musicianship skills when necessary up to a college level.

As a clinical trained Vocologist, I also work with students to correct vocal fold injuries and to prevent further trauma, as well to improve phonatory production during singing.

I am certified by the New York Singer Teachers Association and the Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method. In addition, I am a City/State Teacher Certified in Music (K-12) and a member of NYSTA, NATS, and MEANYC.
I am a graduate of Columbia University in Music & Music Education, M.A., Ed.M. I have a comprehensive background and training in Piano, Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocology, and General Music. I studied music at Hunter College and I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Italian from Queens College. As an instrumentalist, I attended Fiorello LaGuardia of Music & Art & Performing Arts H.S. and the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College.
My professional development is comprised of studies in Vocology at Keidar Voice Instititute, in Voice Management Techniques at Westminster Choir College, and in Dalcroze at Lucy Moses School.
Over the years, I studied with acclaimed vocal professionals such as Dr. Anat Keidar, Dr. Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, and David Sabella-Mills among others.

Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!
You can expect me to steer the lessons towards whatever you want to learn, and move at whatever pace you need. Progress is guaranteed as long as you have patience with yourself. I will create and print out/copy learning resources for you, and when necessary, learn songs you want to be taught on my own time.

As others have stated Karl is very patient with a new learner. His explanations are thorough and understandable. I make progress from lesson to lesson (for the most part) and look forward to the next lesson.
With B.A. and Master's degrees in music and many years as a working musician, music book author and teacher, I incorporate music theory and ear training into the lessons I give; the goal is to help you be more than just a guitar strummer, but a musician as well, to develop the skills to become your own teacher and to go as far as you want.

Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.
I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.
Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.
Being an active and experienced musician gives me the necessary knowledge to know what is needed on order to become a better musician. Also having over 20 years of teaching experience allows me to tailor my knowledge to the need of every particular student. I really enjoy to transfer my knowledge and solve the unique musical problem that every student encounter during their musical path.
Bassist and composer Andrea performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs in the city and around the globe.
As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea is a dedicated educator. He has taught master classes at the National Institute of Music and the National University of Costa Rica, at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and at the Olav Duun Videregående Skole in Namsos, Norway. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he graduated in 2011 with a Master
of Music Degree in Performance with a Concentration in Jazz as a Fulbright scholarship recipient.
I am truly happy to have chosen Andrea as my teacher. Not only he has an intelligent approach on how to introduce and teach the Italian language, he is also very polite, friendly and accommodating. It’s a real pleasure to learn from him!
