Private Violin Teacher
Hello! I've been performing for 21 years and teaching for 15 years. Teaching has always been a passion for me! Whether you're an adult trying the violin or viola for the first time, or a dedicated student aiming to major in music, I can adapt my approach to suit your needs. I will help you build confidence in your playing through presenting attainable goals each week, while also providing appropriate challenges. I aim to help you feel comfortable and natural as you play by prioritizing proper posture and technique.
I have a Master's degree from the Peabody Conservatory in Violin Performance with an emphasis in pedagogy. I have performed in the U.S.A. and Europe, with well-known artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzahk Perlman, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. My teacher training includes the Suzuki method (registered for books 1-5) and the Mark O'Connor method (certified for books 1-2).
My hope is that the violin or viola becomes a constant source of inspiration and ...

Violin:
A wooden stringed instrument in the violin family; it is the smallest and highest-pitched. The violin typically has four strings tuned in perfect fifths, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings, though it can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato). Violins are important instruments in a wide variety of musical genres. They are most prominent in the Western classical tradition and in many varieties of folk music. They are also frequently used in genres of folk including country music and bluegrass music and in jazz. Electric violins are used in some forms of rock music; further, the violin has come to be played in many non-Western music cultures, including Indian music and Iranian music. The violin is sometimes informally called a fiddle, particularly in Irish traditional music and bluegrass, but this nickname is also used regardless of the type of music played on it.
Lessons always start with the basics: Tuning, hand/bow

I also like that he incorporates some music theory into his lessons.
Finally, I feel like becoming a violinist now, as an adult, isn't as crazy as I worried it might be since I have Mark to teach me.

Wolfgang is patient, kind, and funny. He’s always upbeat, and always always gentle and encouraging. At the same time, he has a knack for challenging his students and making them want to work hard for him. He has a deep knowledge of music, and once you progress beyond the beginner level he can really help you with theory, technique, and an endless supply of useful tips about how to get the most out of practice, how to tackle a challenging piece, and how to approach a performance. He has an enthusiasm for his subject that is infectious. Our son has really made amazing progress under Wolfgang’s guidance.
We’ve always found Wolfgang to be super flexible and easygoing on the admin side. We never felt the kind of sales pressure from him that you sometimes get with music schools and teachers. He accommodates our scheduling needs with no pressure and no guilt, and always communicates promptly whenever there might be something on his end that would affect a lesson. In short he’s a real pro, the total package, and you won’t regret hiring him as a teacher.
I am an adult student with a full-time job. Needless to say, I need a teacher that can maintain a flexible schedule and understand my time limits. Wolfgang does both, but never makes me feel like I am "falling behind" or "losing momentum". He is very good at making sure that I feel like I am continuously progressing, which continues to keep me focused.
I can't recommend his services enough. Any student would do well with Wolfgang as an instructor.

Popular Violin Articles from our Blog
For beginner violinists, that mysterious lump of tree sap in your instrument case might seem a little strange. But that sticky substance - rosin - is actually essential to creating a beautiful, even tone. Particularly if you've just purchased a new violin bow, it's important to learn how to apply rosin properly before you begin playing your violin. The rosin makes the hairs on the bow "sticky," allowing them to grip the string and produce a good tone. First, when applying the rosin, ma …
