Particular attention paid to developing mind-body awareness, identifying students' unique strengths and places for growth, and building confidence. Together, we will work on making music a personal experience, communicating effectively, and engaging our listeners in ways both interesting and fun!

NOTE: At the Manhattan Studio, only 60-minute lessons are available.

About Elena
I'm a native New Yorker, and I'm thrilled to return home after getting my DMA (Vocal Pedagogy and Performance) in Miami. I have taught voice for over ten years, and it's my favorite thing to do - so much so, in fact, that for three years I commuted from Boston to NY twice a month just to see my students! If we work together, you’ll have my utmost dedication to your progress and process.

Lessons with me are lively, positive and student-centered; rather than "me teaching you", the process is collaborative. I believe that building self-awareness is paramount. Rather than a lesson consisting of only my instructions, you'll be expected to give own feedback regarding what you're learning. Encouraging such self-reliance not only boosts confidence and musicianship, but also enables her to trust what you know rather than just "do as the
teacher says". Just as each personality is individual, every artist is unique. Let's find out what your voice brings to the table!

I’ve served on the faculty of the Franklin School of Performing Arts and the Miami Conservatory of Music, and I’ve taught both classroom and applied voice for the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. I have completed all three levels of Shenandoah Universtiy’s CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute, which enables me to teach contemporary styles as well as classical and musical theatre. My studio is currently open for lessons in both New York, NY and Long Island, NY. Interested? Let’s talk - I can't wait to hear how I can best help you.

I've been performing in NYC for over 13 years. I will help you get ready to perform on stage if you've never done it before, or advise you as you prepare for a big show or audition. Some techniques we'll work on are how to take the stage confidently, how to define and strengthen your best qualities and how to make an audience love you. I am looking forward to helping you with your specific goals.

Jessica’s music and comedy is inspired by being the oldest of 6 girls and growing up in a small town in Maine, where she taught Sunday school and counseled teens and twins in a local after school program for four years. tial scholarship to the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and relocated to NYC shortly after graduating.

Her unique music, performances, art and internet videos have won many awards and critical acclaim.

She has performed her music and written segments and songs for television (including ABC’s “Good Morning America”, MTV’s “I Bet You Will”, Fox News “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld”, IFC's "Comedy Music Hall of Fame", HGTV's Flea Market Flip, TBS’s “Saving Grace” website and “The Tyra Banks Show”), radio (including "The Dr. Demento Show", "The Jackie Martling Show", WFMU's "Spreading Yourself Thin with Jessica D" and “The Opie and Anthony Radio Show” on SiriusXM, BBC’s “Loose Ends Radio Programme” and BBC’s “The Simone Show” in the UK), feature films (including “What Would Jesus Buy?” directed by Morgan Spurlock), commercially for major clients and also on stages across the US and the UK (including London’s prestigious Soho Theatre, NYC’s Irving Plaza, Joe’s Pub and The Bowery Ballroom as John Waters’ opening act, and LA’s Troubadour).

Jessica brings a lot of fun to her lessons. She is like a cool aunt or a big sister who likes to have a good time but who also wants to teach you to play guitar or ukulele and sing, hopefully at the same time. Jessica's laid back style and attention to your needs as a student will help you reach your goals, whatever they may be. Together, you will go as fast or as slow as is comfortable for you. Jessica works with classic rock, pop, folk and all your favorite songs as your step ladder for learning. Jessica also can help you develop your own musical style and teach you to write YOUR OWN SONGS from beginning to end, if that is of interest to you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
amp, microphone, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, music stands

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar and Ukulele. Students can rent instruments initially but must get their own, as soon as possible

Jessica is a virtuoso on the ukulele. She has the patience of a saint with less than adept students. Yet she is insistent, in a gentle way, about instilling correct form in her students' approach to the uke. In addition, she is a walking encyclopedia of songs that span the range from traditional to standards to current day favorites, and from country to r&B to rock and roll.

About Michael
Michael is an artist/songwriter with a broad background of
experience from live performances and studio work across the US and
Europe. He has sung for many labels, publishers, and on jingles. As a
songwriter, he has songs recorded internationally by other artists and
in film. He has a Bachelors of Music in Commercial Vocal Performance
from Belmont University (Nashville, TN). As a vocal instructor, he held
a Masterclass of commercial Voice for the Royal Academy of Music in
London in. Michael works with singers of all levels from beginners to professionals.

*** Lesson Details ***
Michael covers all modern styles of music; pop, soul, jazz,
r&b, country, rock, and on and on. Michael works with all levels
of singers, from beginners to professionals, who want to work on
specific areas.

Michael will help you improve your...

Technique- We will help you improve breathing, phrasing, improving tone, projection and develop range.

Artistry- Some singers already have a sense of "who they are" and
have found their "sound" as artists, and others need help refining it.
We'll look at what songs are great for you, (maybe you write your own)
how to style songs and make them your own and even experiment with
different genres.

Performance skills- It's one thing to sing in a room one on one
with a vocal instructor and quite another to be onstage with an
audience with all eyes on you as you stand in front of the mic. How do
you connect with your audience? How do you handle nerves? How do you
talk between songs? Some of these things are learned best from
experience. Most singers are working on their voice because they want
to perform. Michael will provide opportunities for performance
experience for each artist when each individual is ready.

Be an Intelligent singer- Learn how to be ready for an audition.
How to communicate with a band /accompanists. How to know what keys you
need your songs in. Learn about singing harmonies/backing vocals. Learn
about recording vocals in the studio.

This is what one new student had to say about their first lesson with Michael...

"I had SO much fun
this past Sunday, Michael. I already feel like I learned a great deal. You are

Michael is the best singing teacher I've ever had. He has done a wonderful job of helping me to reach the potential that I knew I had as a singer.

His unique and innovative approach to vocal warm ups has helped me to find and define my vocal range.

He also happens to be an excellent vocal arranger, having helped me to add vocal accents to my songs that have given them new life.

Thank you for everything Michael!

Michael has been a savior for me, both in terms of expanding my vocal capacity and helping me develop my artistry and songwriting! He is encouraging, kind, fun, motivating and professional. He has truly been a caring teacher, mentor, and guide for me as I move forward in my music career, and has gone above and beyond his job as a vocal coach, taking the time and energy to invest in understanding my artistic vision, and helping me articulate and execute each step along the way. I would recommend him to anyone looking for guidance in a talented vocal coach and all around professional music mentor!Thank you Michael!

Michael is the best! Right from the start he picked up on the weak areas of my voice and we've been working on it since. He goes through the exercises such that I'm singing the way I wanted without even thinking about it. And he doesn't miss a thing. If I miss a note he's right there having me do it over again until I get it right.

He also explained in detail what the problem areas were and how to fix them. Describing with words how to use the human voice is no easy task, but he knows exactly how to get the point across.

I was originally pessimistic about online lessons, but I thought I'd try it since I couldn't find anyone with credentials and experience like Michael's in Atlanta for less than a gajillion an hour. I was pleasantly surprised. I can sing in the comfort of my own home, and it's just like he's right there with me.

Thanks Michael!

As a teacher, Brittingham has experience in academic and private settings, and has taught for over 15 years to students of all levels. She focuses on creating a healthy sound, free of tension, and capable of cutting power without sacrificing beauty of tone.

She teaches a thorough, performance-based technique that gives her students greater confidence, poise, and allows them to find the beauty in their own voice.

She has been praised for her “dramatic versatility” (Opera News), “meltingly beautiful” interpretations (Forbes), “lucid diction” (New York Times), “captivating stage presence” (New York Classical Review), and “full-bodied voice” (Tulsa World), all while demonstrating “strength and resistance” (Opera Wire) throughout her “outstanding solo work” (New York Concert Review). Brittingham made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2016 withDistinguished Concert Artists International (DCINY), as the soprano soloist for Karl Jenkins’s The Armed Man. DCINYinvited her to return to Carnegie Hall ...

About Joanie
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Theatre from West Virginia University, and two Masters Degrees in Voice Performance and Music History and Literature from Baylor University. I have been teaching for 15 years, and am performing in regional opera and musical theatre.

*** Lesson Details ***
Our lessons will be fun and challenging. You can expect support and encouragement for finding the best sounds your voice can make regardless of style. I've worked with students in many different styles, and find that the classical background can help you to open your voice and develop strength and control in breath, tone, and vocal color, no matter what style you sing. I'm an organized teacher who expects you to practice and improve on your own between lessons!! You'll find that practicing is a delight for your next lesson
, and I love to motivate my students to improve and see the results in their performing.

I help prepare students for performances, and can help with seeking out opportunities to perform. You will learn performance techniques, audition techniques, and how to make a song your own, as well as how to communicate in English and other singing languages.

You will find your voice in a nurturing, safe environment, where you are free to experiment with new sounds. We will work together to achieve your goals!!

In three to six months, you will have found your comfort level as a singer, and will have started to push beyond it into more challenging pieces and vocal technique. We'll also focus on reading music and music theory if that is new for you, and you will feel comfortable with beginning sight reading. You will also be ready to perform at least one new piece of music.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my books (so the student doesn't have to look over my shoulder) but they will be responsible for providing a piano, music stand, and their own copy/book of their assigned pieces.

*** Specialties ***
I was classically trained, but have also learned Broadway style singing. I am comfortable teaching both styles. I like to use the classical approach for new students to voice, even if they will be belters, as it helps them to develop breathing and understanding of vocal placement.

I am available to coach performance in a personally tailored way, regardless of a student's instrument or stylistic preference. The actual act of performing is a skill that should be honed alongside any skills on an instrument, and I am happy to share my experience and knowledge regarding the relationship between the performer and the stage.

About Cory
Hello and welcome all! My name is Cory Jacobs, I'm a Brooklyn born guitarist, educator, and composer, and I'm thrilled that you are reading this, because that means you're interested in pursuing music. I have been teaching and performing for around ten years, and plan on teaching for the rest of my life. Since completing my Master's degree in guitar performance, I've decided that I'm going to use this instrument as a tool for communication, education, and entertainment, in every way that I can. I love sharing music with anyone and everyone, and being the guiding, positive force to help people pursue their goals and learn music, to whatever capacity they intend to.

There is no previous experience in music or guitar necessary to begin lessons. Most of my students began with only a guitar and a bit of enthusiasm, and that's all anyone ne
eds. We'll be doing a lot of learning, playing, listening, and hopefully a bit of laughing, if you enjoy awkward and sometimes bizarre humor.

*** Home Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: guitar amp, bass amp, cables

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will come with my guitar, a metronome, and a cable if my student is studying electric guitar. My student should have a guitar, paper, a pencil, a metronome, and an amplifier (for electric guitarists & bassists.)

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach musical fundamentals and basic technique to all of beginner students, as well as discuss practice methodology, listening practice, and musical style. We will be delving into rudiments quite a bit, but using riffs, melodies, and applicable chord progressions to learn. Learning to read musical notation is not necessary for many musical goals, but we can pursue that route if desired, and it is highly encouraged for a comprehensive musical understanding.

For intermediate students will likely want or need to work on specific things, ie technique, learning specific songs, music theory, learning the ins and outs of specific genres, composition, improvisation. My specialties include pop, rock, metal, funk, jazz, and classical guitar.

I am very open to regular communication with my students to answer questions, share recommended listening or reading, and of course, be on top of scheduling and logistics. I try my best to make our time together a rewarding and fun experience, and to pass forward the great fortune of learning music.

My approach to teaching music is strictly an individualized one, catering to the specific interests and goals of each student. I believe that if learning music is truly enjoyable and fun, students will develop a sincere love for their instrument. In teaching children, my emphasis is on instilling in them a love of music. While progressing in mus
ic obviously requires preparation outside of lessons, I consciously avoid asking students to practice. Instead, I incorporate the music and styles that appeal most to the student and use them as vehicles for teaching concepts.

I strive to make learning music fun, regardless of age, style, and ability. I organize an annual recital to showcase my students' talents and hard work.

I will provide all music and instructional materials, and ask that students provide a clean, quiet area to hold our lesson, ideally with a music stand. I'm having the greatest time taking lessons with Jessica. It's definitely the highlight of my week. She's extremely personal, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable. I love that she doesn't just teach you how to sing properly but explains the science behind the technique. She's great at finding what's unique about your voice and cultivating that. I've definitely improved as a singer and have become more confident through working with her. I look forward to seeing her each week!

Time flies; another year has almost gone by since I started my lessons with Cândida. Thought it would be a good time to leave an update here.
Anything I write down doesn’t feel quite enough, really. She has become so much more than a music teacher (or maybe that’s how the best teachers should be?). A friend, a wise guide in the world of music that’s so easy to get lost in and burn out. With a day job and family, I could have stayed a noodler on various instruments forever, but thanks to her I now can call myself a musician - while keeping that tricky life-music balance. I surely have a life-long path of improvement in front of me (like everyone else!). But if I have her by my side, I know I’ll make it. Felicidades!

I have been taking lessons with Candida for a few months. She is the most amazing instructor I have had the privilege of knowing. Her patience and understanding to helping me learn to sing and play the piano is exemplified by the fact that English is not my first language, yet she had never given up on me, even when I felt I could not do it. Her positive attitude and supportive nature made me never want to give up. Learning something new is something everyone should strive to achieve no matter what age you are and Candida is the best instructor if singing is your passion. Thank you Candida for never giving up on me. (Review translated from the Greek to English language).

Music Criticism: How To Handle a Critical Audience
Years ago, I heard my first band would be featured in the local paper and I was so excited to read the article. I hurried home to read it and found that the short blurb was far from complimentary.
