About Gregory

As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeas

Ryan D.
I had singing classes before for years, but before meeting Ryland I had a 2 year hiatus for many reasons. I needed someone that could help me evolve my rusty technique to gain vocal power while going thru FTM hormone therapy. In the first few weeks I already noticed a big difference in my voice, being able to hit such power that I didn’t had before. He would also notice my strenghts and weaknesses, and work on them with easy to understand concepts and techniques. Each week it gets more challenging and with him I’m able to get better each time, so it does end up not being challenging at all! He also understands that my voice is going thru changes, so everything is done in a healthy way, pushing forward my knowledge and practice while making it a safe transition! He’s kind enough to give me lessons that I work at home in-between classes as well. And to top it all, we both have the same sense of humor, so after a tough day at work, being able to do what I love while being a funny and relaxing experience it’s gold! Thank you Ryland! Can’t wait for my next class! :)
Sonja
Ryland is the real deal. He’s an amazing teacher and has helped me resolve an issue that I’ve had my entire life with my voice. I always felt I was straining my voice and always had to make a huge effort trying to be heard and yet my voice would not project and often people would have a hard time hearing what I was saying. I always felt very frustrated because our voice is such an intimate expression of ourselves and I felt that I was making this huge effort and my voice did not feel like a natural expression of myself. Instead I felt tense and uncomfortable. When I picked up acting, the issues with my voice, the need to be heard and to have a confident vocal range became more urgent. I didn’t really believe it would be possible because I had tried a speech therapist in the past but Ryland has taught me how to make lasting changes to my voice that have made a huge difference in my life. Ryland is incredibly gifted. He has an amazing ear and can hear things about my voice that I don’t even know how to put into words. We worked over a period of several months and he was a truly wonderful teacher, not only in terms of the work we did during the lessons but also his kindness, compassion and nurturing were equally important in helping me make the changes. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Mark
Ryland is an exceptional communicator, helping me learn to get out of my own way and trust my voice that's already here. Together we developed a daily practice, specifically designed to strengthen my weaknesses and carve out the grooves I need in order to do my best work. Join forces with Ryland and you will build confidence, you will build YOUR voice, and you will move forward with excitement and anticipation!

During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

About Meg

At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both cl

Meg is a great teacher who is extremely attentive to each person's unique voice. She doesn't try to force any particular technique or style, but it responsive to what works for each individual and where they are at in terms of experience and comfort with singing. She brings an overflowing tool kit of techniques and knowledge about the voice and body and uses them creatively and effectively to help her students produce their best sounds. I've been working with her for almost a year now and highly recommend her as a teacher!

During my time teaching privately and in the Boston public schools for the last fifteen years, I have focused on creating engaging, fun, and collaborative music lessons. We have explored a variety of songs and styles as well as different activities and approaches to improvising and composing. We’ve had a variety of ensembles playing many different types of music and performing all over Boston at the public library, community events, bars, and art and science fairs.

About Charlie

I like to keep the lessons engaging by finding songs and material that the student is interested in. Every song is a world in itself and can offer many insights on the history and development of music. I'm currently finishing my second album of music that I wrote with SlowPokeNTurtle whic

This guy is incredible. He creates a safe space where you feel inspired to improvise and experiment with music. He showed me songs that changed my music taste and playing style completely. The best part of learning with him is that it feels like you are jamming with a good friend. He not only is an incredible musician but also a great mentor. I have only good things to say about Charlie

Charlie McClaren is one of the greatest music teachers I've ever had. Learning music with him never felt like a chore, rather it was a journey we shared. He's patient and understanding, but he'll make sure you understand the music thoroughly. He showed me that music was more than an art form, it's a lens you see the world through. I can't recommend Charlie enough, no matter where you are on your musical journey, he'll take you to the next level!

"I am a math/science nerd and do not have much experience in proper singing, less in stage performance. After reading Benjamin's profile, I was very positive that he had the right personality and teaching style suited for me. My guess was correct! I have enjoyed every single of the 10-15 lessons with him and look forward to many more.
Teaching how to sing is much more than just giving instructions and demonstrating correct techniques. Even a YouTube video can do that. You hire a mentor so that he/she can criticize what you are doing wrong and create exercises customized to fix such malpractices. Benjamin has been doing exactly that. Additionally, he has been helping me improve on my stage etiquette, as well as performance skills. His sessions are also thoroughly entertaining, and he puts you under right amount of pressure, allowing you to be motivated without feeling embarrassed.
I started as an amateur singer and planned to pursue singing as a hobby at best, but now I hope to turn singing into an avocation. I am happy to recommend Benjamin to anyone looking for singing and stage performance lessons!"

I have worked with Jan for the last 6 months and she has been a joy to work with. She shares techniques for helping her student connect with the song, so that singing is emotional and not just technical. We've both noticed a real improvement in my singing ability. I highly recommend Jan."

"Danny came to our house and did lessons for my son in our living room. My son used to take group classes with Danny at a Network for Young Artists, a non-profit but since we moved out of that area, we needed more one on one time. My son has improved in confidence, singing has gotten better. He even sang at a family birthday party for his little sister and even did a speech. I would have never imagined that type of confidence."

"I have been taking piano/music lessons from Ryan for 8 months now. It has been a great journey with him. As a 40yo student, I always have my ways of learning music (or anything), and Ryan truly customized every lesson to my likings. And these changes based on what was going on in my life at the moment of the lessons, be that a celebration, a loss, a growth and such. So the lessons with him have been healing process to me like a therapy. Now I understand why there is such thing as music therapy. I started lessons with him to play piano, but he had been showering me with lots of music theory which I have been always curious about. It is like learning a whole new language and it opened up my eyes to a world of music. Ryan is kind, friendly and flexible. An hour lesson with him give me happy and positive energy for a week. Why wouldn’t musical conversations give anyone such pleasure? I am committed to continuing my musical journey with Ryan!"
