Play the music you want to play. I often use a combination of styles to get you to advance in your guitar skills whether you are a stone beginner or advanced. I've been teaching for over 20 years and can tailor lessons to the individual using the music you want and my large repertoire ranging from simple American Folk through Advanced modern music. I can get you to accompany, solo and also read music too( if you wish). I have concise approaches to all matters of technique, scale work and arpeggios. You can be confident that you are coming to an experienced teacher/player who cares deeply about music and loves helping the student progress.

I teach good playing technique and broadly applicable musical knowledge by working on music you actually want to play. I've played and worked with students on Bach sonatas, Dylan/Donovan style fingerpicking, Tony Rice-style bluegrass, jazz comping and solos, rock, metal and punk riffs, Steve Vai-esque two-hand tapping, as well as songwriting, music theory, and aural skills, so no matter what kind of music you like or how you're looking to improve, chances are I can help you get to the next level with your playing.

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are: 1. theory -- notice i say theory, not rules. learning music theory is not about learning rigid rules that will stifle your creativity. when you learn theory, you learn to identify patterns and give them names so you can remember and reuse them. the more you know your theory, the more ways you know to express your ideas 2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally. and really, why would you not want to be the best you can be? When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it
