Praised for her "rich dramatics" (The Boston Globe), soprano Pamela S. has earned a reputation for bringing passion, intelligence and style to every performance. Through an international singing career that has included everything from Baroque opera to working with some of some of today's most prominent composers, Pamela has performed with Yamaha Young Concert Artist Series, the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme at Aldeburgh Music Festival, Operafestival di Roma, Yale School of Music's New Music, New Haven, Helix New Music Ensemble at Le Poisson Rouge, the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, Left Bank Concert Society, Beth Morrison Projects, Opera at Florham, American Opera Projects, and many others. In recent years, she appeared on a PBS documentary singing the music of Pulitzer Prize winning composer David Lang, and created the role of
Julia Dehning in the world premier of the opera The Making of Americans at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. She received her Master's degree in vocal performance from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where, upon graduation, she was awarded The Phyllis Bryn-Julson Prize for Commitment to and Performance of 20th and 21st Century Music.

Ms. S. currently serves on the Board of Directors of MATA, an organization dedicated to supporting young composers from around the world. She is also co-founder, along with award winning superstar composers Lisa Bielawa and Aaron Jay Kernis, of Your Music Bus, and is the founder and director of Stone Mason Projects, a boutique production company specializing in endeavors related to new music for voice. She is in high demand as a voice teacher for competitive students and professional singers, and lectures on the social significance of music history topics related to contemporary repertoire.

Pamela has been teaching music and voice for more than ten years. Currently, she teaches voice and music theory at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division for their Young Artist Program, and is on the voice faculty of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. Prior to these positions, she was an adjunct lecturer at City College of New York, CUNY where she taught music theory, musicianship, and composition. Additionally, she spent two years as the chair of the voice department at The College of Saint Elizabeth, where she has taught private vocal instruction, as well as lecture courses in music history, music theory, vocal pedagogy, and ear training.

Pamela's students have performed with Paper Mill Playhouse, Continuo Arts Foundation, Assisi Performing Arts Festival in Italy, Carnegie Hall, Opera at Florham, the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, In Mid Air Productions, and many other companies around the East Coast and abroad. Her students have placed in vocal competitions including Mid Atlantic Music Festival, Golden Key, National League of Performing Arts festival, and many others. In addition to her work as a teacher of music, Pamela has worked as a Teacher's Assistant at Columbia University's Department of Astronomy, for the class Theories of the Universe: From Babylon to the Big Bang.

Pamela also maintains a private studio of voice students, and is available to give lessons from her home in Newtown, PA. In the past, Pamela worked for Rider University as a private tutor for students in music theory, music history, and French. Pamela was active in the vocal pedagogy program at The Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University through which she taught voice lessons while earning her master's degree in vocal performance. Pamela has held substitute positions teaching voice and piano at Spotlight Music in Flemington, New Jersey and was on the roster of teachers at Bravissimo Music, a branch of Ivy Bound Test Prep.

My teaching is goal oriented but always supportive and encouraging. Students can expect lessons to consist of vocal technique building and repertoire study. Lessons are very individually geared towards each student's unique needs and goals. Students who follow my instruction always see and hear results.

I have had a vocal coach before meeting Pam, but she absolutely took it to another level. Pamela does a good job with teaching the mechanics of singing, as she pin points which muscles the body is using and how to use them properly when singing. She has a variety of warm ups and stretches to get your voice and body prepared to perform and is very good and pushing you to become your best. If you are a serious singer and would like to take the knowledge of your craft a step further, I would definitely recommend.

Pamela is a teacher.

Pamela was very patient with my young daughter. She taught her the beginning stages of reading music and her voice became clearer and louder because of the confidence she gained during her sessions. I would recommend Pamela as a singing instructor for any age but she was so patient and encouraging for my young daughter. We loved it.

I have been both a performer and dedicated teacher in the NYC and NJ area for over 14 years. I began playing music at the age of 8 years old, studying classical piano until I was 13. From there, I picked up guitar and started to immerse myself with rock, folk, classical, and jazz music. I eventually attended William Patterson University where I earned a BA in Jazz Performance, and then decided to move to NYC and pursue my career as a performer and educator. Upon moving to the city, I attended the American Institute of Guitar where I studied classical guitar for 5 years with world renowned guitarist Yasha Koffman.

Currently, I am teaching and performing in the greater NJ and NYC areas, and have performed with notable figures such as Steve LaSpina, James Williams, Tyshawn Sorey, and Yasha Koffman.

eaching for 14+ years of teaching, I have developed a teaching style that is unique in that I approach each student’s progress on an individual basis. Musically speaking, I am able to identify what is holding the student back and take necessary steps to move forward in a constructive and supportive way that will inspire you to continually grow as a musician.
The first thing I want to accomplish in my lessons is to get the student excited about playing music in general. That means understanding what kind of music the student likes to listen to and incorporate it into the lessons. I find that relating ear training, theory, reading, technique, and rhythmic study to the music that they are interested in is a great way to do that.

CLASSICAL GUITAR INSTRUCTION:
We will focus on a variety of topics including right and left hand technique, proper body position, sound production and tone, reading, repertoire, and finding your own personal musical voice with regards to playing classical music.

JAZZ GUITAR INSTRUCTION:
We will cover jazz theory, chord shapes, scales, repertoire, and transcription. Jazz is an oral tradition and I am a firm believer that the best way to learn it is through listening/transcribing and applying those concepts on your instrument. We will draw inspiration and knowledge from great jazz musicians of the past in addition to finding your own personal voice as an improviser in jazz music.

TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN:
I have lot of experience teaching young children (as young as 5 years old). For these children, I like to focus on the basic foundations of music (e.g. rhythm, melody, etc.). We will use a variety of tools (rhythm sticks, guitar books for children, singing) to enrich these early foundations in music, in addition to learning to get over the physical demands of learning to play the guitar.

*** Frequency Requirement ***
Students are required to take lessons at least once per week in order to insure consistent progress and ongoing assessment. Lessons given every other week are not offered.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room set up. Chairs. Music stands. Guitars. Music. Seating for parents. *** Please note, there is no piano in studio. If you are interested in piano lessons, only in home lessons are available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I usually provide guitar picks if needed, photocopies of materials (mel bay, chord charts, etc.). I require my students to have the instruments that they will be taking lessons on and a notebook to write in.

Very happy with Etan

Etan comes to our home which works for 2 kids lesson, one guitar the other piano. He is always on time, and can handle kids who sometimes have difficulty getting going. Nothing stops him. Each of my kids has improved and likes Etan. That is a success story. This has turned out better than expected. Etan rocks!!!

Great lessons for my son

My son has been taking lessons with Etan for 2 years now, he is a great teacher. He has a passion for music, and a passion for teaching. My son always looks forward to his lessons. I definitely recommend Etan for teaching young kids.

I've been studying music my entire life and have composed, arranged, practiced and played many styles and genres of music gaining a solid understand of what makes each style, chord and melody unique. Knowing how music and harmony functions is essential to becoming a complete musician and is something that every person studying an instrument should have a grasp on. I use a blend of ear training, active listening and classroom style exercises to help the student attain a well rounded and practical understanding of the function of musical theory.

About Bill
Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr
awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill Todd and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

What I learn on first Contact for Flute Lesson.

Correct posture will reduce pain in your arms and wrists because the weight of the flute is not resting on the shoulders. By correctly aligning the flute with your head and neck, pain in the arms will be reduced.
The position of the flutist’s head is closely related to the neck position. If your head is properly balanced on your neck, then you will be able to bring your arms effortlessly up to your flute without pain. If your neck tenses, your spine will tense up as well. In particular, playing softly tends to cause tension in the neck, because it takes more concentration to play with food tone softly

I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

Finding Olivia was no coincidence.My 11 year old daughter is so psyched when she has her lessons!
It is in Liv's home,just a 10 minute ride from where we live,it's warm,safe,and filled with talent.
The passion of music is everywhere you look,Daphne and Olivia are
Ike old souls that just jive together perfectly.
Daphne has gained confidence,a mentor,and a ton of fun,
I thought Daphne was on a short lived path,as kids often jump from one idea to the next,but I believe singing is something she will definitely peruse.

I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I'm almost afraid to write this review lest Asuka's schedule gets totally filled with new students:) I started lessons with Asuka Nov 22 as a beginner and by January 15 the notes I could sing increased by an octave.

My high C/C6 came by early December, a couple of weeks after starting with Asuka. Some of this is my voice type, but I believe anyone who works with Asuka will see improvement.

I am taking lessons with a well-regarded pop teacher from the same time period and I've developed almost entirely from Asuka's lessons vs the other teacher, and quickly too with consistent practice. What Asuka teachers carries over to non-classical singing also.

Asuka is not rigid in her approach, thankfully, and she is so nice about the million things beginner singers can correct. I don't feel embarassed singing in front of her because she is non-judgmental.

I did some online lessons when she was traveling, and I got just as much out of them so even if I leave New York I will continue working with her.

Dan, a multi faceted musician, composer and educator active in the tri-state area since 1994. Dan's eclectic education, upbringing and fields of interest render him one of the unique voices in the dynamic field of current music education.
In an era where old boundaries are breaking and a growing musician needs to have expanded horizons, Dan stands out in the crowd.

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Dan received his musical education from the Rubin music academy in Jerusalem and the Manhattan School of music in NYC where he completed a Masters degree in classical composition and Jazz performance. Dan is an excellent instructor. My half hr per week under his guidance helps me develop good practice routines; learn music history, & theory. I don't even have to tell him what I've struggled with during my practice sessions (at home) Dan identifies those obstacles and provides tools for improvement. Quite an impressive pro in my estimation. Just what I need to continue my musical journey. Pretty nice guy also.

About Pedro
I am comfortable teaching all types of students: young beginners, general music-lovers, and conservatory-bound students.

I'm assistant principal violist in Brooklyn's main orchestra: The Metro Chamber Orchestra. I also have a variety of freelance projects (like playing my homeland's tango with the Astoria Tango Orchestra).

I've been teaching and conducting at The Washington Heights Community Conservatory of Fine Arts for the part 7 years. I also teach privately out of a studio near Union Square/Gramercy.

*** Lesson Details ***

Kids:
I tend to be emphasize structured practice. I generally like to have students perform in some way (whether it's a real test, mock test, or a school recital) so that they have goals to practice for throughout the semester.

I also think it's crucial for musicians to be critical thinkers as wel
l, so from time to time I will challenge kids with side assignments that may be relevant to opening their mind on the subject.

Most of the time, if at least one of the parents has an active involvement in supporting the lessons then the progress of students is very strong (like emphasizing key points in the week, or just having open dialogue with kids about the process). It is by no means necessary, but it can help a lot.

Adults:
Often adult beginners are curious as to what the learning curve is. Generally, by the 3rd or 4th month of study all the basic elements start falling in. But although the beginning requires patience, I find a key to making it work is finding how to enjoy the small things in practice... which will later construct a beautiful sound.

I keep a sense of humor while teaching and performing (always when and if appropriate), but I am also very serious about getting students to their best potential. This means that for every student I adapt the approach to best suit their needs.

I keep organized lesson plans as a general rule, but some students work better without them, so I adjust in those cases.

Pedro is an excellent teacher. He's able to blend the technical aspects of playing with the artistry of the instrument. I've already learned a great deal from him in only five lessons.

Versatile Instructor for All Ages

I'm an adult student, but you can feel a comfort and relaxed atmosphere in the immediate presence of Pedro. This is such an important factor in learning an instrument. This feeling would serve to greatly help and child right on through adult learning. Good Job!

About Steven
Dr. Steven M. was born in Newport Beach and grew up in Southern California. He began studying the piano when he was seven years old and studied with Dr. Mark Sullivan from 1998 to 2002. During that time, he was a full-time student at the Orange County High School of the Arts in the Instrumental Music Piano department under the direction of Dr. Stephen Cook. He received a Bachelor of Music degree and a Performer Diploma from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he was a student of Distinguished Professor of Music Menahem Pressler. He received a Master of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music, where he is currently a doctoral candidate studying with Andre-Michel Schub.

Dr. M. has received awards in many competitions and festivals including Second Prize and the award for the best performance of a piece written b
y an American composer at the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition. In 2002, Steven was admitted to the Young Artists Guild, the most prestigious recognition awarded by the Music Teachers Association of California. While at Indiana University, Steven was awarded the Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship and the Theodore Presser Scholarship in recognition of his outstanding work. He has served on the faculty of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music pre-college piano program and also as an associate instructor of piano at the college level. He has performed extensively as soloist, chamber musician, and with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe.

Steven has worked with such distinguished artists as Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal, Andre Laplante, Christopher Elton, Roger Vignoles, Carol Vaness, Dawn Upshaw, Virginia Zeani, and Golda Vainberg-Tatz. He has established himself as a prominent collaborative pianist playing many recitals each season with singers and instrumentalists. He has participated in numerous music festivals including Music Academy of the West, The International Keyboard Institute and Festival, The TCU-Van Cliburn Institute, and the Adamant Music School where he performed live on Vermont Public Radio.

In addition to operating a successful private teaching studio in New York City, Steven currently serves on the faculty at Manhattan School of Music in the Keyboard Skills department, is the official accompanist for the Denes Striny Vocal Studio, and is the Director of Music at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hoboken, New Jersey.

I have a Bachelors of Music Composition from Brooklyn College, and I'm currently finishing a Masters degree. I've been playing music professionally for 27 years, spanning a wide range of styles. My knowledge of different genres gives me a unique perspective for teaching.
I've been entertaining at the piano for 15 years, playing guitar for 25+, and began my musical career primarily as a drummer with a variety of bands. I'm classically trained as a percussionist, and I studied jazz piano at the University of Kentucky before finishing my degree at Brooklyn College.
