If you are a complete beginner who really has a desire to learn the instrument, we will focus on technique, theory and improvisation as it applies to your favorite styles and songs.

For students who want to play more casually, we will focus on mastering techniques that will get you playing your favorite tunes while bypassing the theoretical aspects.

Intermediate/Advanced students are welcome to choose the areas they feel they need to improve, whether it's understanding how to apply modes to your soloing or developing a fluid sweeping technique.

Before taking lessons with Adam, I had no knowledge about playing guitar and fundamentals of music theory.

So,at the beginning, Adam patiently taught me music theory and the technique to play guitar. During the lessons, I have asked him basic questions about music theory time and again, and he patiently explained the concepts to me. Also, sometimes, I asked him to explain me the song composition (chord structure , melody , bass and etc) of some random songs, and he quickly broke it down in the class and showed me how the song is constructed.

One thing I like about the class structure is that Adam gives you the freedom to choose the lesson content. And, then he slowly nudges you on the right path. In terms of scheduling a lesson, Adam is very accommodating, and he accommodated my every request to change the schedule.

Another thing I would like to mention is Adam's depth of knowledge in terms of music history. Adam always explained me the music concepts by telling me how they got introduced into the music culture.

I will recommend Adam to anyone who wants to learn music.

I am picking up the guitar again after a long hiatus and Adam has been incredibly helpful. I started playing guitar at age 11, taking lessons at the local music studio in Hackensack, NJ. I became heavily influenced by The Beatles after hearing their music and as a teenager played in local rock groups, having some success being in the bands Jona's Ark and The Yorkshire Pudding, opening for artists Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, John Mayall and backing up Gary U.S. Bonds. I started playing piano at 19 when I took a group piano class in college. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied guitar with Bill Leavitt and Pat Metheny. That's where I started learning about all the great jazz artists from Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery to name a few. While at Berklee I also developed a love of the classical guitar and it's repertoire. After Berklee, I became a freelance musician and played guitar for
The Drifters, Del Shannon, The Shirelles, The Marvelettes, The Crystals, Chuck Berry, Leslie Gore and believe it or not Tiny Tim. I played guitar, harmonica, mandolin and banjo in productions of: Hair, Tommy, Big River, Fiddler On The Roof and Grease. I composed my own music and performed and co-wrote with others who also wrote their own music. I have always taught private guitar lessons as far back as I can remember. One notable student was Stevie Wonder's son Keita who I taught for 2 years at Stevie's home in northern New Jersey as well as CBS News Anchor Charles Osgood's daughter Annie. Currently I teach 20 private guitar students a week.. From 1994 to 2000, I was the guitarist for The Royal Scam (a Steely Dan Tribute) and during that period I was hired by Hal Leonard Music Corp. to write a guitar transcription book called "The Best of Steely Dan". I was also hired by Brother International Corp. to compose and record a national radio jingle called "P-Touch", with Corey Glover from the rock band Living Colour doing the vocal tracks.
In 1996 I went to William Paterson University to obtain my teacher certification in music education. After the 9/11 attacks, I co-wrote and arranged "America Home Of The Free". The song was used to raise thousands of dollars for the victims of The World Trade Center attacks. Presently I divide my time between teaching, which I enjoy as much as performing and playing guitar with a jazz quartet called ....and All That Jazz, whose 2005 CD "Reflections" was recorded, mixed and mastered in my home based 24 track recording studio in northern NJ. I am also involved in a mandolin / classical guitar project called Music Of The Ages and perform with a 10 piece band called Epic Soul.
As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

*** Lesson Details ***
GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. After 6 months students will be able to play a 12 bar blues and improvise with the pentatonic and blues scales as well as learn moveable scales and chords and apply these to songs.

PIANO: I also start young piano students with the Suzuki method so they can play some five finger familiar melodies in a short time period. Then we progress to reading notation and eventually adding chord accompaniment to melodies. I use the Faber piano method for reading standard notation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
24 track recording studio, room for parents to sit 14' x 21'...completely furnished studio with guitars, amps, piano, drum machine, synthesizer, microphones...the works.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need a good quality and proper size guitar (for very young students) a music stand (for their home use) a foot stool, a metronome and books I assign along with an 8 1/2" X 11" blank manuscript book and a folder with side pockets to hold handout sheets. Piano students need their own instrument and the above materials minus the foot stool.

I've been taking lessons from Rob for 2 years now. He is a great teacher, classically trained, but very knowledgeable in all genres. I have learned a great deal and being taught the correct way. He pushes you to do better each and every week.

Though my time as a student with Dr. Dan was short, it was very valuable. Even though the lessons were about singing, it helped me gain a general confidence in myself regarding posture, and using a loud voice. He has given a number of exercises to develop my breathing, vibrato, tone, and lower registers to use on my own. Dr. Dan is a great teacher who makes the atomsphere of the lessons very friendly and I would highly recommend him!

As an active soloist and orchestral musician, Sarah has performed with orchestras such as the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Brockton Philharmonic, and such esteemed ensembles as New York Classical Players, the Poisson Rouge Ensemble, Shattered Glass, and The Moirae Ensemble. She was recently named Laureate of The Mozarteum Summerakademie for her performance of Lera Auerbach's T'filah.

Sarah began her solo career in 2005 with the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, and has since enjoyed performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Brockton Symphony and Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and frequent appearances with the Lowell and Waltham Philharmonic Orchestras.

During his high school years, Justin discovered his passion for music and education. Kenneth Brown, his former choral teacher, and mentor recognized Justin's untapped potential. Justin founded and directed The A Cappella Choir of Middlesex County. After a successful first year and a full-length album, The A Cappella Choir sang at Carnegie Hall for the premiere of Eric Whitacre's electronic opera "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings"

Justin was the head of the choral department at the New Dover United Methodist Church in Edison, NJ. He directed and musically directed production's of The Rocky Horror Show at the Villagers Theater in Somerset, which subsequently moved to The Den Nightclub and ran for 2 consecutive years.

Justin has organized, directed and performed in fundraisers for the Edison high school Choral program, the program that first honed his raw talent and a place that to this day he still can call a home.

As a performer, Justin was seen as a back­up singer in the Bryan Hansen band. He has participated in theater all over NJ and is frequently hired for studio session work. He recently contributed backing vocals for Mike Wells' upcoming third studio album.

Justin has been teaching privately since 2007 (Justin Pollinger Vocal Studio). His Students have been accepted to some of the top music programs in the country including Westminster Choir College, Boston Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Mason Gross School School of the Arts, The Hart School and AMDA.

I went to Rutgers: Mason Gross School of the Arts for Vocal Performance as a freshman in Fall 2008; by the Spring of 2009, I was no longer a music student. Singing quickly became a laborious activity instead of an enjoyable past time; I felt as if I became incapable of adequately expressing myself because I was bogged down by a pretentious atmosphere and a teacher who lacked any sort of gravitational pull. Justin is the complete opposite.

I started studying with Justin in September 2013. He's so incredibly realistic. He lacks any form of pretense and his personality is so magnetic. Every time I walk into my lesson, I'm ready to go. He creates an atmosphere that is just so easy to adjust to, and he listens. I'm so grateful to have found him. In a little less than a year, he's helped me restore confidence in my vocal ability and gain back years of lost discipline in such a short time. He will hold you accountable without alienating you and for me that's invaluable. If you're looking for someone warm, but disciplined, Justin is your guy.

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 13. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!

About Emil
I started to study the piano at the age of seven with Hrant Minassian in my hometown of Island Park, New York. During high school I continued my studies with Jack Chaikin , a graduate of the Juilliard School. I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Music in 1979. At Hofstra, my piano teachers were Blanche Abram and Morton Estrin.

After graduating from Hofstra, I moved into Manhattan and continued my piano studies with Elena Wolkonsky at the Juilliard School. I also took a few lessons from Adam Aleksander, concert pianist, in Miami. So all together, I took lessons for 20 years with six different teachers!

I started teaching piano when I was 18 years old and taught all throughout college. After enjoying a successful career in data processing for 22 years, I decided to go back to teaching piano in 2003.

Emil was the teacher I was looking for. I have tried to learn piano on my own for a while now, but most of the time it became overwhelming. I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction, or if I was learning what I should know in the right order. So far, what Emil had done for me was to take what I've known already and add much more to it. He also has started to correct some bad habits I became accustomed to, which I would have never picked up on my own.He's very knowledgeable, and ties in music theory during the lesson. He's down to earth, throws in some jokes to lighten the mood, and create an enjoyable learning experience.

I have been teaching music both in private and group lessons as well as ensembles for over 12 years. I specialize in jazz and contemporary music (pop, rock, r and b, etc), world music, and classical/chamber music. As an active performer I have performed or recorded with Run DMC, Lee Ritenour, Ambrose Akinmusire, Daniel Platzman (imagine dragons), Knower, Esperanza Spalding, Billy Hart, and Ari Hoenig among many others. I earned my Bachelor of Music from U Miami and my masters of music from NYU.

I have been featured on NPR, ESPN, bass player magazine, LA Times, Wall St Journal, Downbeat, Miami Herald, NYTimes, Spinner, and many other publications.

I am a faculty members at several music schools including NJPAC where I have been and artist faculty since 2015.

Best lesson I've had in a long time. Been searching for a teacher like Michael. Great mentor who knows his stuff with over 15 years of experience. Solid studio space. Cheaper to book 1 hr.

I just finished my first lesson with Michael on bass! He's a great teacher, he's patient and has ALOT of experience. The in home studio was cool, a great space with every instrument. Good rate. Worth the money.
