My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years. In 2011 I graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also studied with legendary guitarist Pat Metheny and Jack Pezanelli. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, and piano. I firmly believe that every serious musician should study ear training and music theory and I incorporate these areas in my lessons as long as the student wants to study this way. I've performed with a bunch of great artists in the Boston and Philadelphia area.
In 2011, I successfully obtained my master
's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The master's program was an intense submersion in music performance that shaped me into the musician that I am today. I was lucky to study with Don Glanden, Mike Kennedy, and Kevin Hanson.
I am also well versed in computer recording software and DAWs. I teach students how to use software programs such as Logic and Reason as well as notation software like Sibelius and Finale. With some basic training in these programs, I can teach a student how to effectively record and produce professional quality recordings so that a student can write, record, and produce their own music.

Because I've studied with some legendary teachers who have taught some legendary students (like John Mayer), I'm able to pass on to my students the same knowledge that these incredible teachers passed on to me. I guarantee that I will be unlike any guitar teacher that you've had before. Along with instrumental training, I offer extensive lessons in music theory and ear training. My family is full of educators and I've experienced the teacher-student relationship from a young age. I am fully committed to developing lesson plans based on the route that a student wants to take, whether it's just learning the basics and playing along to your favorite songs or engaging in serious study and preparing for college auditions. Scott is not only an amazing guitarist, but he is a superb teacher. Kind, supportive, and has an uncanny ability to break-down difficult pickings and strums into understandable and easy to follow directions. Most importantly, very patient. I was self-taught in the 70s when everyone picked up a guitar, stopped as an adult and am now re-starting it again after 30 years-and enjoying every moment. Scott is able to teach any type of music or song and intuitively understands and teaches the guitar style that the student would like to learn. Any student who studies with Scott should consider themselves fortunate. Not only does he know his stuff, he is passionate about music and passing on this musical knowledge to his students.

Music Theory is essential for a well-rounded musician to grasp. Not only should a musician know what sounds good, but why it sounds good. Simple theory includes note names, reading music, melody, and rhythm. Complex theory includes how extended chord structures relate to each other, Serialism, and harmonization.

Vince was first introduced to music theory when he began playing trumpet and reading music. He learned the basics such as notes, scales, triads, key signatures, and time signatures, from the perspective as a performer. Later (especially when he started studying guitar and piano) Vince studied intervals, more exotic scales, and chord progressions. At college and graduate school, he formally studied advanced music theory as applied to tonal harmony, twentieth century music, and jazz.

Vince Tampio is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, PA. Although firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince’s most recent solo album Live at PafA (2017) “is a contemporary instance of fusion done right,” and whose “nontraditional instrumentation maintains a spacious environment that proves ideal for a set brimming with imaginative, drawn-out improvisation” (Matthew Aquiline). This project was recorded as part of HotHouse at PafA After Dark: a concert series of the Philadelphia Jazz Project. Live at PafA was preceded by Syzygy (2014) and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self prod
ucing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in The Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on more than 25 albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, the Cat’s Pajamas, and You Do You. He is a founding member of the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. Vince also writes and arranges for the Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Matt Gallagher, Craig Morris, Claudio Roditi, Malcolm McNab, Scott Holbert, Jeffrey Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.

Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. He currently teaches a number of electric bass students at Philadelphia's Rock to the Future. Vince privately teaches trumpet, electric bass guitar, ear training, music theory, improvisation, arrangement, and composition to students of all ages and levels.

Since each student approaches music differently; I tailor my teaching to fit their approach. I ask each student, "What are you aiming to accomplish?" Together, we set short and long term goals. I believe a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. My students receive a holistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument of their choice.

Since graduating from Temple University with a B.M. in Music Education and Jazz Studies, I have played with musical groups in Europe and recently became a K-8 general music teacher in Philadelphia. Maria is my first sax teacher and i loveeeed her. She is extremely patient, and knows how to teach (which is so important). She also inspires me for jazz solo pieces. I remember one time she just asked me to improvise and great music was "forced" out of my horn.

She is a great teacher and I would def have kept taking lessons from her if not she moved out of town. I am really hoping that she will return and do lessons with me again.

I earned my master’s degree in jazz studies from The University of the Arts. As adjunct professor of music at Lebanon Valley College, I teach double bass, bass guitar, jazz improvisation, and directs small-group jazz combos. Working with students of all ages, I also teach workshops, clinics, and master classes at high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as keeping a private teaching studio out of my Bucks County home.

Lessons are available on upright bass, electric bass, improvisation, music theory, and ear training at all ability levels and all ages, from absolute beginners to high school students preparing for college auditions to adults. Some of my students have been accepted to various regional orchestras and jazz bands, and I'm very proud of their hard work.

We will work on the fundamentals of music theory, including harmonies (major versus minor), solfege (do re mi fa sol la ti do), and the beginning stages of reading music in both the treble and bass clefs. We will also work on intervals (the distance between two notes) and different types of chords. Depending on how advanced the student is, we may also work on some basic sight-singing and dictation.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from NYU in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance, and received my Master of Music degree in classical voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I sang in operas, concerts and recitals weekly. Leah takes the time to assess your individual goals and pushes you to achieve them. She makes sure to get the best out of you, but never makes you feel completely uncomfortable. Good balance between exercises/theory and singing real songs that you choose.

I have only had one lesson with Leah so far and I am very happy. She is very friendly, is opening to answering any questions you may have, and has a great way of explaining techniques and what you should be feeling in ways that makes doing what you need easier.

The theory department at Oberlin conservatory is top notch. During my time there I was able to take courses in functional harmony, voice leading, atonal harmony, serial music, emotion in music, the visible in music, and performance and analysis. I emphasize practical theory in my lessons and always make sure the student knows how to apply this information to a musical end. I use approved collegiate level texts in my teaching.

While studying with me we will work on many facets of music including technique, sight reading, critical listening, music theory, improvisation, and how to apply these skills to a piece of music to truly express yourself. My goal is to instill a deep understanding of music to my students while letting their individual sensibilities show.

STYLES: I can teach all styles of American music (i.e Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, R&B etc.) as well as classical and fingerstyle.
I have a degree in classical
guitar and have performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra as well as done concerts in the USA, Italy, and the UK.
I have experience playing in many different bands in many styles including: Rock, Reggae, African, Blues, and Jazz groups.

SUZUKI METHOD: I am trained and certified in the Suzuki Guitar Method and spent 3 years teaching Suzuki in studio with children as young as 5. This involves a significant parent-teacher-student commitment and regularly yields impressive results.

ON TALENT: I agree with Shin-ichi Suzuki that talent is irrelevant and a myth. I believe that the potential of all my students are the same but they come to me with various starting skills levels and all learn at a very different pace. I believe that the myth of “talent” really just means that the individual has had a long exposure to music. This is why I emphasize critical listening in my lessons. If you have a large knowledge of music and sounds in your head it makes it easier to make connections and better assess your ideas.

Lenny is a great instructor. He's both personable and patient, brings extensive theory knowledge as well as technical guitar playing abilities to the table. His rates are reasonable and he's flexible with scheduling. I highly recommend lessons with Lenny, regardless of your level of experience.

Lenny was my daughter's first instructor for guitar, she had two years of piano - she was not as motivated with the piano instructor as with Lenny. He took his time with any questions she had, he was totally patient with her, he really has a understanding of music and is able to explain it in a way with minimal if no confusion. No matter what kind of day he may have had at school he remained absolutely consistent from week to week with how he taught during the lesson. His focus was where it should be, even when other family members needed to take my daughter he was undaunted yet caring. I would highly recommend this young man hands down. I told him personally through emails how thankful and blessed we were with him as a teacher. I have other children, older, and I have had them through various teachers with various instruments and Lenny is definitely a 5-Star.
