I teach violin to adults and kids age six and older, and welcome adult beginners. I teach studio lessons for beginner and intermediate levels and online lessons for beginners only.

Studio/in person lessons: I teach studio lessons for beginner and intermediate levels. I offer an approach to classical violin studying the Strictly Strings and Suzuki Books, emphasizing reading music and music theory. I can also provide tutoring for student orchestra members and assistance with orchestra music.

Online lessons: I teach online lessons for beginners only. My online violin lessons use Strictly Strings Violin Book 1 and Suzuki Violin Book 1, and cover the basics of violin, including reading music and music theory.

My teaching career began while I was a Conservatory graduate student. Teaching and performing are complementary aspects of being a musician. Instructing others provides a deeper, more thorough understanding of my own approach to playing. Several decades of performing in professional orchestras and chamber music ensembles grants a life time of practical experience to share with my students.

While the serious pursuit of a professional level of accomplishment on two diverse instruments such as the violin and the flute is unusual, the idiomatic characteristics of each one have given me unique insights into other. Over the years I have discovered concepts that have enhanced my performing and teaching of both. These ideas have allowed me to present an integrated approach and perspective for both instruments that not many other teachers would have.

I love working with students and building their technique and musicianship skills beginning at any level. I get the best results from my students by focusing on how to efficiently practice and structure their practicing. As a music instructor, I am eager to cater to the needs of each individual child and to provide them with engaging musical experiences in supportive environments. I have previously provided violin, viola, and piano lessons to students of all ages both through Thompson Tutoring in Portage, Michigan and Reverb Lessons in Chicago, Illinois. I have approximately six years of private teaching experience.

I recently graduated from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts with a Master of Music Degree in Viola Performance. In 2016, I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Viola Performance and Spanish. My performance experience includes both local and international venues.
